Interesting information pertaining to the period before independence. We always thought in partisan terms about this major event in the history of India. Prof. Ahmed has logically explained why the Britishers wanted to leave India in a hurry. The failure to retain a strong, united India was caused not only by the Hindu/Sikh-Muslim differences over transfer of power but also by the strategic interests of the colonial power. It left behind a fractured nation, whose.parts are steeped in mutual hatred and poverty and perennially at war with each other.
