in the year 2014, i accidentally stumbled across this particular video and ended up watching it despite knowing absolutely nothing about the x files or mulder and scully at all. by the end of the year, i ended up watching literally every episode and devouring every fanfic i could find. this one little clip was all it took and every now and then i come back to watch the moment i fell in love with them all over.
This is the episode Gillian won the Emmy for. I read she was the first woman to with a SAG Award, Golden Globe, and Emmy all in the same year. She's just that damn good that she pulled you in with this one clip.
I've seen a lot of great tv couples, but none of them have or will have the kind of chemistry that Mulder and Scully (David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) had. Absolutely top-notch perfection!!!

I love the episodes when Scully was fighting her cancer, i cried all the way through them but in this episode i was so grateful for this scene :') As far as couples go they are by far the best, when they look into each others eyes you don't even have to guess what they are thinking you can just tell by the way they look at one another. One of the best scenes in X-Files!

I disagree. Hannibal, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Westworld, The expanse, Sex education, Breaking Bad, Mad Men etc are examples of magnificent modern television with great characters and plot. The xfiles was for sure one of the greatest shows of its time period (90s and early 00s) but there has been tv just as good in the late 00s and 10s.

I know Gillian Anderson is a lot shorter than David Duchovny anyway, but in this scene Scully looks especially small compared to Mulder. I think it's just the way he hugs her, how his arms wrap around her and he rests his chin on her head --- it makes him look much bigger. Plus I know in some scenes they had ways to make Scully appear a little taller. Boy, do I love how tender he is with her here though. That forehead kiss, the way he strokes her hair... the love they have for each other is so special.
my grandmother battled cancer for 18 years. I saw all the processes. the doctors said she would live for 2 years. i lost her last year. she raised me. I have her in all my childhood memories. I really wanted someone to hug me while watching this scene. my eyes are full. I send my best wishes to all cancer patients
Same. Except that she fought for 12 years and didn't go to all of medical procedures (she had heart disease). It was breast cancer. Chemicals she used per-oral. She was very strong and died at the beginning of 2009 when was 78 y.o. She also basically raised me. Her and her mother. I was with them when my mom and dad were at work. More, she also worked, not all the time but half, went to work at her early stages of disease. She kept her head smart till her last day. Still miss her, although a lot of time passed...
This is my favorite episode and scene from all the X Files. It's brilliantly written and acted. There's the Lone Gunmen working working with Mulder. The ending-just melts your heart. GA is amazing.
This scene bought tears to my eyes, the acting in these 2 are extraordinary and real...you can really tell that they enjoy each other as David Duchovny said in a interview he misses working with her and she's adorable. When Gillian and David didn't know they were being filmed during the last season and episode "I love you, I love you to" with a hug from both of them.."Oh are we on camera"?..👽🤟 The best actors on television...miss the show so much on Friday nights...tv isn't the same without The X-Files...🙁🦇👁👁

As much as it bothered me they didn't kiss and instead he kissed her forehead and held it. (I send a snapchat to my brother cause I was slightly upset.) The original kiss wouldn't have been good enough for their first kiss it was like a little peck, definitely wouldn't have been dramatic enough.

Yeah i agree but people can also fuck each other if they want to to express their needs and desires. Sex is a biological function as well as fun recreation for couples. It's not either or. Why can't it be both? You can't label Mulder/Scully. Doing that is a total disservice not only to the characters but to the show. Their relationship will always be unique because it arose during a period in TV when men and women weren't equal and it was a boys world in that world. Men were the strong protectors and women the damsels who needed to be protected. This was back in the very early 90's, so these characters and the reverse gender traits was something that just wasn't shown - Mulder the emotional intuitive believer and Scully the stoic rational skeptic. It just wasn't done. So they were always different from day 1 but even though the relationship is fundamentally built on a huge respect and admiration for each other as people, There was always a great deal of sexual tension between them from moment 1 and a huge draw for the show. Sexual tension meaning that they could respect and admire each other but also build a relationship in every sense of the word. It's no secret that both characters were attractive and found each other attractive. They're only human, and with that bond comes everything that makes a person human including needs and desires. I'm not talking babies and marriage, and that huge house with the 9-5 everyday. That's never Mulder and Scully BUT i'm talking about 2 people who love each other in a deeply profound way, are each others touchstone and 1 in 5 billion always. How can you say that a relationship like that is a cop out just because they express that love in a fundamental way? Sex is not just about rubbing your lower parts together for a thrill. When 2 people love each other on the level that these 2 do sex becomes so much more.

Exactly. the sex is such a tiny part of their relationship. They've kissed several times and there's been implied sex but for me it's...just look at how he's looking at her here. It's so much deeper than sexual tension (UST in spades though.) They're multi faceted and incredibly layered characters, and you see respect, admiration, tenderness, devotion and soul deep love between them. They have an incredible bond that you could only hope for. 2 people who have opposing ideologies and challenge each other in an intellectually stimulating way but this is an 'ideal' love IMO. It doesn't really exist in reality on the level these 2 show. They've been through hell but together, and it just seems to tie them closer together. They are so devoted and loyal to each other that it is honestly magic to watch. This was a rarity in TV and i haven't seen it duplicated like these 2 have shown. Sex is nothing when they manage to hold hands, touch foreheads or have breathtaking conversations with just their eye contact and make it so freaking intimate. Sometimes it's uncomfortable to watch because it feels too real, which is why they are iconic as a couple and as separate characters. This template has attempted to be duplicated since (bones, castle, SVU) and although those shows have beloved fans IMO they haven't managed to truly replicate what the x-files did. This little sci fi show became a juggernaut, both pop culture wise and ratings wise. It smashed awards left and right (globes, emmy's, SAG's etc) and a major reason is Mulder and Scully and their complete love for each other. Sex is a footnote and again just.look.at.how.he's.looking.at.her. Chris Carter is an idiot who truly doesn't understand his own creations. ha ha platonic, yeah they've never been platonic and No Romos puzzle the fuck out of me. Honestly just look at how he's looking at her. How could you be against a complete relationship with these 2? If the answer is it cheapens it, my response is that you must really have something against sex.
