They collabed with the Oak Ridge Boys, Lee Greenwood, Kenny Rogers, Alabama also. Don asked Home Free to join him when he got his star on the sidewalk & had HF sing a little snippet of this. How cool is that!! 🥰🥰
It was Don McLean that reached out to them to do this for the 50th anniversary of the song, not the other way around. A great honor from the original artist of such an iconic song. And he was not the only one Kenny Rogers contacted them too a couple of years ago for a collaboration. They sang with quite a few big names.
One of the many things I like about Home Free is how respectful they are to other artists. When they sang with Texas Hill, they made sure that Texas Hill members were each introduced by name and part they play in their band. When Don McLean they highlighted him and treated both him and his song respectfully.
The reason they are in the picture boxes is they recorded this during quarantine from their own homes and then compiled them at the studio! Don Mclean actually asked HOME FREE to record this 50th anniversary remake of his song! Turns out he is a huge HOME FREE fan! This is an 8 minute song so everyone in the band had a solo! GREAT SONG! DON MCLEAN sounds the same as he did 50 years ago! PHENOMENOL!!! THANKS for covering my guys!!! Great job!
Home Free has a behind-the-scenes making of this video on their channel. Don McLean reached out to Home Free for this collaboration for the 50th anniversary of the song. Kenny Rogers, Alabama, Lee Greenwood, and the Oak Ridge Boys have all done videos of their classic songs with Home Free. Their original song Dreamer pays homage to the country artists that came before them.
Quote from Don McLean “Recording American Pie with Home Free was something that I never imagined I would have done,” says Don McLean. “My manager brought me the idea and I was like ok, but I have never collaborated with anyone before and why would I do this. Then I heard their vocal harmonies and it reminded me of The Jordanaires and then found out they don’t sing at all with instruments. What happened in the studio was great, but what happened when they put it all together was magic! I am honored to have worked with these guys and to win, not just one, but three national Telly awards for the music video is just great!!!”
This video was during quarenteen and all parts was done separately and was edited together. This re-make of this song was made for 50th anniversity of the original song. I heard that Adam Rupp was so out of breath that he was very light headed at the end of the song. Chris Rupp the one that wore hats left Home Free in 2016. Adam Chance who sang the 1st verse replaced him. This is very tastefully well done re-make of an absolutely great classic. You gentlemen really need to take your uncle out to dinner for his suggestion and you all have a great day
These guys are so multi talented it's ridiculous. Each of them can step up and do whatever needs done and do it great. They always pay respect to whatever legend they work with and legends have respect for them as well. How cool is that! As far as I'm concerned, Home Free can do no wrong. And Don's voice, gees, he's still got it. Great reaction, you guys.
Another song Home Free does with Don McLean is his song Vincent which is about Vincent van Gogh. The song has some nice harmony, and some brief duets with Rob and Austin.
They also were invited by Don to his ceremony, along with Weird Al, when he was awarded his star on the walk of fame. They were asked to sing a little bit of the song at the ceremony. There is a video on TH-cam, I do believe! This definitely was a beautiful tribute! There is a ‘making of’ somewhere too…. Great reaction guys! 👍👍
With their own twist, but still keeping the respect and appreciation for Don MCLean, HF has made another incredible version of it!! It's Adam Chance in the beginning. A voice so smooth But yes, Robs voice is so sweet, pure, as velvet and so soulfull. And I'm 58 and can still remember this song when I was young so that's how old this song is hahah
Another great collaboration is Home Free with Lee Greenwood singing his song "God Bless the USA". Some Air force choir members sing with them too and it's amazing. I'm Canadian and every time I watch this video my eyes tear up. The pride in your country is definitely felt in this video! A must watch!!
You guys are gonna LOVE the "Butts Medley" (not MELODY as some reactors mistakenly pronounce it). It's super clever and Rupp keeps it hoppin' the whole time. Thanks for this reaction.
Since you love Robs voice so much, you should do "Catch me If You Can". He has the lead of the song. If more than one member of the group is interested in the lead parts, they will each sing it and then they will decide who did it best. In the case of Catch Me If You Can, Rob got to the studio first and sang it. The other guys heard it and basically said, "no we can't top that. We aren't even going to try." And he gave it his own unique, bluesy touch...perfect!
Don McLean, the singer of the nearly nine-minute-long hit "American Pie," has held the record for longest song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since 1972. So Adam is crazy beatboxing for that length of time on this cover! 😳 Go Chance and these guys are so talented!
Don is 75 years old now and released the song back in 1971. Actually, Don's manager contacted Home Free to put something together for American Pie's 50th Anniversary. Home Free also was invited at Don's star reveal on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year and Home Free sang a bit of this song at that reveal. Also, all of them including Don won Telly awards for this video.
And this was the 50th anniversary of the 1971 song. I was 13 when it came out, so my older sister was the one that bought the Don Mclean records (vinyl only). Best big sister ever!
The guy who sang the first verse is Adam Chance and goes by Chance. He is a baritone but fills in the bass when Tim is singing lead. Chance replaced Chris Rupp when he left HF in 2016. In Man of Constant Sorrow, Chance is doing the mouth/jew harp.
Guys, this was the song of my generation. Every schoolkid knew the words by heart or you were called moron or something else. On all field trips, or band trips, we all sang this song. This was filmed in February 2021 and Don was 76....he is now 77 of course and he stopped singing professionally a few years ago....so to do this is a GREAT honor for Home Free. Great reaction...by the way the 1st gentleman, is Adam Chance known in the group just as Chance to avoid confusion with the beatboxer. Chance replaced Chris Rupp when he left in May 2016
Your observations on video brings me to Home Free Meet in the Middle video! Done during quarantine and so much fun! Y'all will absolutely love that one!
Loving your HOME FREE journey! I thought this song was just about perfect when it was first released in 1971, but HOME FREE’s collab with Mr. McLean has elevated it into something else entirely. What a beautiful way to pay homage to the original while introducing it to a brand new audience. Thank you for reacting to this one. (I am so looking forward to your BUTTS MEDLEY/REMIX reaction! So much fun!)
All done during Quarantine! Why are we surprised when it's always so good?! Each can hold their own no matter a solo or BGV. The editing is brilliant and the background snippets/videos of honouring the time, "the day the music died" is worth watching a few times to catch it all.
Only the Home Free men can upgrade a cover and honor the original artist at the same time. Another homfredian gem. I wish they'd had a chance to sing with Roy Orbison. Maybe Home Free will get a chance to sing "Maybe I'm Amazed" or "Let It Be" with Sir Paul McCartney before we lose him, too. Nobody else could do it justice.
You have to watch Tim singing ' Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay 'also 'In My Room' another video they did when in quarantine that I love is 'Meet in the Middle'
Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean just received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them.
Funny that you used the word “timeless” as they have a song by that title that is exceptional. HF does have a behind the scenes for this song in their channel where they talk to Don. Great reaction as always!
Thanks for a great reaction. Don McLean and the Home Free guys did the song so well. Chance the first of HF sing also took over the bass when Tim's time to sing came, then right back with Tim taking bass and Chance back to baritone. Beautifully done by them all. Don received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star and the Home Free Guys came and sang a part of this song. I am pretty sure they were excited. :) Oh and Don's star was placed in front of the Pie Hole Shop. Perfect place when you are known for American Pie. :)
Hey guys! Chris Rupp left in 2016 for his solo career. The one who started the first verse & who replaced Chris is Adam Chance but goes by "Chance" to avoid confusion with 2 Adams. He's their baritone but has about a 4 octave range so he's not far behind Tim's 5+ octave range. Love how much you like these guys! Fun reactions!!! 😊
Yes, they deserved a round of applause for that one. Don sounded great for 75! This was during Covid so they did the boxes but I loved it because it reminded me of shadow boxes you keep your memories in. Loved the black and white film in the background too. Don got the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and he invited Home Free to come and sing with him and they did! How cool is that?! Such a good rendition!! Good reactions bros! Try I Can’t Outrun You with Chance or Yours. They’re so good. Love you!😍😄
Nice Guys, very nice. yes do the Butts medoly, also try Honey I'm Good, Andy grammar cover. would like to see you do some chilled stuff like Moonshine, My Church and Dive Bar Saints. keep em coming guys
You guys are so great with your reactions!! Thanks for doing our favorite guys. This classic song was from when I was in my late teens. It covered the period of time many of us still have trouble remembering, Vietnam and the protests against the war and all that went on over the young men and women that were drafted and went to war. (My finance was there 14.5 months and it was a nightmare!) Anyway, Don said he wanted to have HF do this with him as a new upbeat version because he said "They understand harmonies". What a compliment! And there is a behind-the-scenes of this. Probably on their TH-cam channel where they have a lot of the behind-the scenes which are super fun. You would enjoy hearing Don tell their great producer make me sound good. lol! And there are interviews of Don online talking about all the reasons he wrote this, Buddy Holly's death when Don was a boy, then losing his own dad, Vietnam and all that surrounded it, the JFK assassination and Bobby Kennedy and MLK. A tough time to live in the 60s for sure! Thanks again!
I am so glad that you both liked this so much! Of course have you ever seen and heard a Home Free song and video that you didn't like lol This was a perfect matchup for Home Free with Don McLean, and an honor for them I am sure. This song was so hard on Adam that they will never do this song live, he was near passing out I head after making this video lol I enjoy your reactions, you both are obviously both passionate about good music. I just subscribed to your channel so I thought I would request a Home Free song for you to check out and react to called Cover me up. Adam Chance takes the lead on this one and does a beautiful job with it, you won't see him the same again once you hear him in this one. There is even a pretty cool surprise at the end of the video. So many Home Free songs, so little time lol Happy listening.
Kudos to their producer Darren, the whole production crew! I do not believe it is green screen this was during covid so each one did their part at a different location, then the producer put it all together!
My first song I remember as a child. Sitting in the back of moms car listening to this. AM radio lol. Got me hooked on music for life. I was 5 or 6 at the time.
Hey dudes! Been watching you guys for a while and just now become a sub.... always love your reactions to the boys.... I go way back - probably older than your Pop or even grand dad - but I was in college when the original version came out and it's been forever on my playlist - this version however was simply top notch - Home Free knows how to pay homage to one of the greatest songs ever written and to its incredible author...the song is simply "timeless Americana" when you look at the history of the song and get into the lyrics.... I really look forward to your reactions to these guys and you know now they will always hit the sweet spot musically and will never disappoint. Keep up the good work guys! RichieC (Atlanta) - PS - I saw them live in December when they came to Atlanta - all I can say is...INCREDIBLE!!!!
The first Home Free singer is Chance (Adam Chance). There are two Adams in the group, Adam Rupp (the beat boxer) and Adam Chance (baritone). People call him Chance to distinguish him from Adam Rupp. You two are probably too young to recognize the theme used in this video but what is being portrayed here is what we called a nick knack shelf. Almost everyone had at least one of these in their homes and they would have little figurines or photos in each of the little squares. So for those of us who remember these old day this is really a nice concept for this song.
I love Home Free so much and watching your genuine appreciation and excitement to them just makes my day so much better....I can't help but smile. Thanks guys for such great reactions to my favorite group. Can't wait for the next one!!
Chris was Adam's brother who started the group with him. The new guy is Adam Chance. He goes by Chance to keep from confusing people. Enjoy how they all took there turns shining. FYI if you really want to be blown away by Tim's range and talent...I recommend come go with me. He does this all by himself in layers, singing ALL the parts.
'The day the music died' was 3 February 1959 when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper were all killed in a plane crash. The song is full of cultural references and I think there's a video on YT showing what each lyric means, for instance, ' I met a girl who sang the blues, and I asked her for some happy news' is believed to be Janis Joplin.
Hey guys! You've heard Tim's low and medium range. Now go listen to Snow Globe and you'll hear him go somewhere you wouldn't think he could go. Great reactions! Keep it up. Thanks.
Adam Chance, otherwise known as just Chance because Adam Rupp is already called Adam,so Chance goes by his middle name...he's the guy in the hat and the guy to take first lead from the Home Free guys.Chance used to sing Bass in another a Capella group (Street Corner Symphony,I think is its name) before he came and took Chris Rupps vocal position in Home Free. And yes,Chris is Adam Rupps brother, but he is no longer in the group.he has a solo career that is pretty good though.this guy in the hat is Chance.😄
Such a creative way to continue to put out videos--in spite of quarantine! 🥰 And goodness--one wonders how the amazing Adam Rupp was able to beatbox through such a long song without passing out!! 🤯 (Chris Rupp left and Chance joined the group mid-2016, so for the most part you should be able to identify the HF baritone by the date of their video.)
We come to these reaction videos expecting enthusiasm and appreciation. You guys are the best!😎. With the Butts Remix, there will be a screen melt down. Go back and take a peek from The Sing-off of Home Free accompaniment of Jewel singing Have Yourself a Merry a little Christmas. The boys were just getting it all together and Jewel was hot. Yes - more Home Free performing with great artists. 🐿
In addition to all the names that they have collaborated with the are already mentioned, they also got to perform at Diana Ross' 75th Birthday party. They were contacted only a few days before and added to the set list of artists after she has spent a day binge watching their videos. I mean, she binge watched their videos. So many iconic names love these guys.
Hey, Nani Brothers, us Home Fries are really enjoying your reactions to our beloved band!! You're right, this was a very moving performance. I seem to recall Tim saying in an interview that they had originally reached out to Don McLean to do a collaboration, but nothing came of it at that time. Then (I think it was several years later) Don contacted them to do American Pie with him for the 50th anniversary of the song. The result is one for the record books!
You guys must listen to Tim's Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay be forewarned it will blow your head back. It is a song that really showcases Tim's range and it is all Tim by himself
I had the original album from 50 years ago.....they did an amazing job of re introducing the song again. Tim and Adam are not self conscious about what they look like doing the bass and percussion.
This song was based on a plane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly, Richie Valence and one other artist. In fact, Walen Jennings was supposed to be on that plane but he gave up his seat for that third guy. Towards the end he talks about a girl who sang the blues, asking if it would be ok, she just turned and walked away. That girl was Janis Joplin. So this is about his life at every turn formed by music until those people died, it was until the day the music died. They were the end of an era. The end of a wonderful life left to the past. A brilliant poem in song. A masterclass in song writing.
here is a snippet of the interview with Don McLean after doing the collab with Home Free: “Recording ‘American Pie’ with Home Free was something that I never imagined I would have done,” McLean says in a statement. “My manager brought me the idea and I was like ‘Okay, but I have never collaborated with anyone before, and why would I do this?’ Then I heard their vocal harmonies and it reminded me of The Jordanaires, and then found out they don’t sing at all with instruments. What happened in the studio was great, but what happened when they put it all together was magic!” So, I would say he was VERY pleased with the outcome of this video. Also...they won 3 Telly awards for this collab: The singers all won a Gold Telly in the Best Use of Animation category, a Silver Telly in the Music Video of the Year category, and another Silver Telly in the Best Remote Production category. WTG Don McL and HomeFree
The one with the hat is Chance (Bass/Baritone). You should react to their cover of, Cover Me Up. Chance does a solo and sounds awesome, but watch to the very end as there is a surprise.
Every time I hear this, I think of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and other band members who died in the plane crash in Iowa. They were on their way to their next concert. My sister had tickets to that concert. She was traumatized like only a teenager can be. Years later I took her to Buddy a musical in London. She said she finally felt complete.
There's a vid on their page about the making of this video. Tim and Austin were in the studio with him. You don't see Don but you hear him talking to their producer and answering questions for the guys
The Day the music died, I was in jr high in the late 50s and the three of the first rock n roll guys The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, and also Tiny was killed in a small plane crash . We were so shocked and we just cried for days!! It was a tragedy they all had number one songs and we didn’t know why .
You young men are so awesome, I enjoy watching your channel. Rob’s voice sounds so smooth like velvet. Chance started with the lead and his voice is awesome. He can do bass through tenor. Austin can sing tenor to high tenor. Tim can go lower than bass lol, and go to tenor. Adam our beatboxer is so awesome, each one of them could all have solo careers. But together they are all amazing.. Thank you 🙏 🎼🦋🎵💕🎶
This is by far my favorite collaboration they have done. I absolutely loved all of them not to put anyone of them down all amazing. The guy you don't know is Chance (Adam Chance) that took over for Chris Rupp. This was done on the 50th Anniversary of the song coming out. If you don't know the story of the song you may want to look it up. Adam Rupp I heard almost passed out while doing the beatboxing in this song. Enjoyed watching your reactions to this song.
Chris Rupp left Home Free in 2016. He was usually wearing a hat. Anything after 2016 is Adam Chance. They haven't changed the lineup since then. I was 10 when this song came out. They say Adam almost passed out at least 3 times recording his part of this.
Tim released a solo accapella CD of doo-wop songs. You should check out his TH-cam videos for a couple of them-Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay especially. That really showcases his insane range.
The song was actually inspired by Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valenze and the Big Bopper. They all 3 were killed in a plane crash.. That was "the day the music died" I used to not like this song very much but once I figured out some of the context and hearing this version, I kinda like it now. This was an awesome version of it. 😊
I always look forward to your Home Free reactions and you never disappoint. I would suggest End of the Road. Rob kills it! Take Me Home Country Roads is another tremendous one. Then check out Tim's Doo-Wop song, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/ Stay. I'll wait here.😉 🍿 🍺
They collabed with the Oak Ridge Boys, Lee Greenwood, Kenny Rogers, Alabama also. Don asked Home Free to join him when he got his star on the sidewalk & had HF sing a little snippet of this.
How cool is that!! 🥰🥰
They also did The Devil Went Down To Georgia with Charlie Daniels.
It was Don McLean that reached out to them to do this for the 50th anniversary of the song, not the other way around. A great honor from the original artist of such an iconic song. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't out of breath. This is a looong song and he went straight from drumming to harmonizing.
These guys are so multi talented it's ridiculous. Each of them can step up and do whatever needs done and do it great. Did you notice how Adam bowed to the 'Master' before the final verse. Awesome homage to a great singer/songwriter.

Oh, about Tim's insane range, please try "snowglobe". He wrote it, the video is kinda Christmas, but the song isn't.
Y'all will flip out! 😉🥰🥰
or his new solo stuff.

I love how you don't need a lyric sheet when homefree is singing...so crisp, clear, and fantastic.
Another HF cover with the original group is Elvira with the Oak Ridge Boys! :)
All done during Quarantine! Why are we surprised when it's always so good?! Each can hold their own no matter a solo or BGV. The editing is brilliant and the background snippets/videos of honouring the time, "the day the music died" is worth watching a few times to catch it all.

Seconding Tim's solo Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay. Strap in good and secure for that one!
Yes, YES!!! A must! ❤️
"Guy in the hat" is (Adam) Chance. The beatboxer is Adam Rupp, one of the co-founders of HF.
Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Adam Chance is my favourite in this one ❤🎵🎶. Absolutely brilliant 👌
Such genius. They always amaze me and I listen to them everyday.

Don loved this collaboration. Home Free should have was more subscribers
They also sang this when Don McLean had his star placed on Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The first solo was by Adam Chance. They refer to him as Chance. Great range and a warm baritone tone.
Thanks guys!! Another great one from HF!
I like it when Chance takes over the bass singing when Tim sings lead. He does that in many songs.
Check out home free Ain't going down tii the sun comes up 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 and Adam WOW kills it 🔥💯
And goodness--one wonders how the amazing Adam Rupp was able to beatbox through such a long song without passing out!! 🤯
(Chris Rupp left and Chance joined the group mid-2016, so for the most part you should be able to identify the HF baritone by the date of their video.)
This is the first time I actually listened to the words. Really impressive collaboration.
For something really fun from a live show look up “Tim Whip Nae Nae.”
Absolutely loved y’all’s reaction!!
It was Don McLean that reached out to them to do this for the 50th anniversary of the song, how amazing is that?
Great reaction, guys! Thanks. Regards from Argentina!
Don wound up getting three awards for this video.
The singer you were debating is Adam Chance. He replaced Chris Rupp approximately May of 2016.
That was a great reaction. ^_^ One other similar collab that comes to mind is Pentatonix with Dolly Parton covering Jolene.
Love Nani brothers’ reactions to HF!! 🔥
I cannot count how many times I have listened to your reaction of this song, thank you❤❤
You can watch the making of this video I'm not sure where it is online but I've already seen it. It's pretty awesome 😎
Home Free ❤️🙌🙌
The guy in the hat is Adam Chance and yes he was in Man of Constant Sorrow - did the jaw harp sound. He’s my favorite guy of the group.
Yes Don ask HF to do this for 50th anniversary yall need to do CANT STOP THIS FEELING HILLBILLY BONE and MY CHURCH all toe tappers and fire
Straight No Chaser (a fantastic acapella group) did a whole album of collabs... Seal, Elton John, and more.
Loved your reaction....They took a great song, and made it even better, but honored it at the same time
There's a vid on their page about the making of this video. Tim and Austin were in the studio with him. You don't see Don but you hear him talking to their producer and answering questions for the guys
If you want to see Tim's range in action, checkout his cover of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay" from his sole Doo-Wop album.
Don STILL is strong!🥰
The Day the music died, I was in jr high in the late 50s and the three of the first rock n roll guys The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, and also Tiny was killed in a small plane crash . We were so shocked and we just cried for days!! It was a tragedy they all had number one songs and we didn’t know why .
Someone told that Adam nearly fainted doing the beatboxing... I wouldn't be surprised 😄
Thank you 🙏 🎼🦋🎵💕🎶
Flawless.
You mentioned how seldom performers did a cover along with the original singer. Try Pentatonix with Dolly Parton doing "Jolene" !!!!!
Adam nearly passed out when they were recording this. Takes a lot of control to hold a perfect beat for that long!
Chris isn’t in the group anymore, and Chance was in Man of Constant Sorrow.
You guys are a blast to watch
Hey Boys, check out Tim Foust solo doing 'will you still love me tomorrow' you are in for a shock...keep up the good work
I always look forward to your Home Free reactions and you never disappoint. I would suggest End of the Road. Rob kills it! Take Me Home Country Roads is another tremendous one. Then check out Tim's Doo-Wop song, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/ Stay. I'll wait here.😉 🍿 🍺
