Nick is 100% correct, if this knife came back with improvements and cost around a justified $60-$70 instead of the $20-$30, it would be hard to beat. I know I'd jump on it without hesitation.

When I purchased my first CRKT razel I knew very little about knives and had no idea who Graham was. There was no instructions in the box for the tail clip and I had no idea what the tail clip was and it didn't come attached to the knife so I left it in the box and used the tip down clip. I would venture a guess that most of them got used this way because CRKT failed to include any information regarding its use. Mine have both been good knives with decent centering, no problems in disassembly, and do not require any wrist flick to get them deployed. I do think I am going to try and replace the washers with bronze ones though just because I prefer them.
That said, I knew from first look that I wanted this knife design to carry daily at work and I love it enough I bought a second one. Mine are both OK in build, and I am completely happy with them at the $25 I paid for each of them. I couldn't bring myself to pay for one of his mid tech knives and quite frankly would be uncomfortable abusing it at the price they command. But if CRKT or someone would make this knife as a flipper, in at least CTS-BD1 steel(or better), with thinner scales,(although with XXL+ sized hands I really don't mind the size or weight), and keep the price at $100 or less, I would stand in line to buy two of them. Best work knife I've ever had. of course, before buying this knife and discovering the knife "world", my previous knives were more like the snap on knife, so comparisons could be hard to quantify.

A Graham/ZT collaboration has a very high likelihood of being the best thing since sliced bread. Hoping like hell it happens one day, so I can buy it and rest contented knowing all is well in world afterall.
Great review Nick! You pretty much perfectly summed up my thoughts on this knife. It is most definitely best used as a work/toolbox/beater knife which is exactly what I use it for. Its a great box cutter and carpet knife too, I've even used it to chop limes (after cleaning it of course) and it works great for that too. Also it's stupid easy to get hair splitting sharp, edge doesn't last forever, but it's not hard to get it right back there again.
    Keep up the good work!

Hey Nick I've had a problem recently and I'd like to know what you'd recommend. Here's the short version, if you want details I'll email you.
    -Own a Dragonfly 2, Endura 4, and Manix 2
-Endura 4 had vertical play and loose clip, Manix 2 had horizontal play, both unfixable through cleaning and disassembly
    -Sent both to Spyderco
Despite acknowledgement of issues, only Endura clip was fixed, both came back with botched sharpening jobs that were not asked for
    -Sent back again
-After negotiation Spyderco agreed to send two new knives
-Endura is perfect (near mirror polished edge even)
-Manix 2 came with the same amount of blade play, a way rougher action out of box than my previous Manix, and small chips toward the tip
What should I do? I've already emailed but do you think they'll replace it again or deem me a waste of time and money? Anyone else with experience please chip in.

So, there is a sorta easy fix to two of your issues, The centering and action. It mayyy be illegal but i just know of this trick from a friend. First things first you have to makes a parts request to CRKT for the washers from a M16-14SFG. After you receive these parts you have to disassemble the knife, and remove the washers. Replace the teflon washer between the lawks and the blade with a black washer from the ones you ordered, and place a back washer between the Teflon one and the blade on the other side. Put it back together and BAM, better washers and a more centered blade.

Great review. Same happened to me, I picked one up for the sake of having a Razel... sent it back because the blade centering was the same as yours. The action on mine was poor and made worse by tightening the pivot in order to keep the blade from completely scraping the side. Sent it back and the online store checked the remaining stock to find the blade centering was awful on all of them.

Hey Nick, Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, you make some excellent points! My humble 2 cents: regarding the secondary lock (09:48), it's safer to accidentally engage (especially when working the chisel tip) than to accidentally disengage! Thanks once again n keep up the good work! Cheers!

I carry one of these and I have to force myself to as it’s not a normal knife. It’s also a little heavy for an EDC. But, it’s really grown on me as an EDC and as a utility knife in the yard. I’d give it a 7/10.

Bought one after watching BirdShot IV's video on it, and yeah... when I got it my first thought was "yup, that's why I stopped buying cheap knives." The fit and finish issues you mentioned kept this knife from being an item I yearn to hold. I have no lust for it.
I also wish the blade was a bit longer, there's some unused space in the handle when the knife is closed.

I have been drooling over John Graham blades for a while now. It's so sad that this knife seems so poorly made. As you said I would be using it as a tool, but I want a well made tool that I can count on.
I may pick one up and change to thinner scales and better washers, as that will be the only way I can afford a Graham razel blade.
Adding new scales would fix the issue with the pocket clip hole and maybe thin it down a bit. Wouldn't fiction the off center blade though.
Thanks for the review. It has helped me make a decision.

Random (Australian) jackass here. I bought mine despite the review. And yes, came with the badly off-centred blade. (Maybe I got the one Nick returned). I dis-assembled it and did the usual stuff to centre the blade. Action is a bit stiffer but it had the corollary of making the safety lock action much firmer, so that now it requires an intentional push to engage. The biggest issue was the free spinning standoffs and the thread 'permanent' locker used. I had to use a heat gun to extract the scale screws. No stripping thankfully. I blue lock tighted the pivot so it is fractionally off-centre but the action is acceptably smooth.
This is a really useful blade that I love. My only minor gripe is the weight- the other concerns do not bother me at all. And even the weight is ok as I don't edc it. I have some higher end knives and the fit and finish of theCRCT isn't that bad. Ergos are outstanding if you have biggish hands as I do (the micarta is a joy to hold and grip hard) If you're on the fence and can tune a knife (and are prepared to) just get one if you can.
Oh and the blade steel works well for me- I have stropped it a few times and it comes back to hair shaving sharp. (I imagine it will be easy to sharpen when it is time for that...) It's the only 8cr I own and I don't mind it at all.
I'd much prefer this shape blade to the cleaver styles. A razel seems like a good use of all that blade height compared to a cleaver.

I recently bought a fantastic CRKT dagger in the UK. Got it in a 50% off sale so it was an absolute steal! It even came with a Tek Lok.
This said, there was a part of the handle that just looked like the dude fell asleep and ground a tiny patch flat on the handle scale for no logical reason, and the sheath doesnt quite fit the knife well enough to hold it safely in place to guarantee retention in the horizontal position.
I totally love the message in your video and respect it. CRKT make great knives ... but they arrive a bit fucked.
