It's like Stephen Fry said on one of his interviews with Craig, it's unfortunate that what's considered most offensive is a word for sex, when words to describe the worst sorts of violence are used in casual conversation. Messed up priorities.
“We train young men to drop fire on people but their commanders won't allow them to write ‘fuck’ on their airplanes because it's obscene!” -Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now
Censorship is a very tricky thing.. and overly (ab)used for silly stuff like a late night show.. kids learn about these words one way or the other, and we should be teaching them the impact they can have. personally, I try not to swear a lot.. because when I do, it adds power to what I'm saying (could be serious, or a joke)... imo, they should've completely censored the beheadings years back during the iraq 'war'. those videos were shown for sheer sensationalism, and empowered those awful people
Real talk about violence being okay in tv, but not the slightest "cussing" *smfh * This man was and will ever be the greatest talk show host in human history. ^~^
Words don't have an intrinsic power. We make them up. WE decide whether their "acceptable" or not. It comes down to an irrational fear by parents that children will hear them and copy them. And that fear comes from the fact that we have arbitrarily decided that certain words are "unacceptable". So it's a self-reinforcing, irrational social fear. We don't want kids to hear them. Why? Because they're bad words. Why? Because they're not appropriate for kids. Why? Because they're bad...and so on.
TheGr8stManEvr but they don't necessarily have the judgement and experience to discern when it is and isn't appropriate. I agree with ice cubes take on it with his kids "I know you're gonna swear but you'll be in trouble if you let me or another adult hear you do it" Gives them the practice of knowing when to and when not to.
@@fe5018 You haven't even managed to learn a different word than the adjective form of "discern" these last three years, but apparently I'm the unintelligent one. So since "swear words" (which is a wholly unintelligent concept) clearly rub you the wrong way: Kindly fuck off.
@@werwerqweqwe, what an ignorant & callow take. Censorship rules in Europe are far lighter than in the US, but our TV isn't filled with "fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck". People still use it the same amount, it's just not bleeped out after the watershed.
Comedian George Carlin once said describing the word "fuck": it's a word used to describe the creation of life when 2 people make love, and it hangs around with words like "love & life", yet we use it to try and hurt each other as in "AH FUCK YOU". I just thought it was ironic & memorable.
I actually know a lot of people who wont/dont swear when bad things happen, some of them had their house bin robbed. so some drama films are like real life.
He is absolutely right!! On British tv, there is only a couple of words edited out of a show (depending on the channel its on). and nudity is not a biggie either,...anyways, i think the only thing funnier that pixilating Craig's mouth, is when they put up the flag over the mouth and use a phrase from that country...like "OOOhhh LALA" for france...or "kriky" for Australia...Plus not much else funnier than Geoff Peterson as the gay robot sidekick, that guy is funny as shit most of the time
What do you mean by "havn't any of the censors been to Italy where there are sculptures of naked men every where? Silly, isn't it?!"??? Because i don't really understand your point there....
That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.. i think the difference is appropiate use in the right context of nakedness, cursing and what else.. full on nakedness and sex is appropiate in porn movie.. cursing like an irish dockworker in front of a child isn't.. I think in craig's show, it's appropiate to curse.. it's an adult show.. even 12 year olds know those words already.. we shouldn't be censoring, but educating kids that in common day life, these words are usually inappropiate..
Well there are a lot of painting with naked people and thats alowed to. During the 2e WorldWar there was a theather with naked women standing still like pantings and sculptures and it was allouwd. So it think it the differance between moving and standing still, real and fake.
Censoring swear words on regular TV is not really a problem. What I don't get is this fear for nudity or sexual topics. I mean, you're basically censoring being human.
Words are bad, ban words. Sex/nudity bad, ban them. Murder, rape, torture, kidnapping, etc, ok 👍 👌 it can air anytime, anyplace without restrictions. That will sure help the kids grow up stable ... but if they end up violent, it must be video games, music, pot, etc. that did it ... yep, that's the ticket.
I understand why he left. But I damn sure miss this show. My guilty pleasure is now in reruns and waiting for the next standup.
Did you see his "Couple Thinkers" series? It was amazing
Having re-watched this video a year later, may I just say... TOOTSIE-FROOTSIE!
BOO-LALAH!
Yo lemme get some tootsie from u
Girl with the dragon tattoo 😂😂😂😂😂

He was years ahead of everyone, talking about censorship. Bless him.

Ladies and Gentleman, the legendary Creepy Old Craiggy ^_^
This was so amazing, let the truth be funnier than a joke.
Do the nipples fit into this?
This show is so flippin' great (;
I wish Craig could come back, because we need some laughs during this quarantine.
The funniest guy on late night t.v.!
What a wonderful video... now i have a screen capture of Craig flipping the bird :D

It's just a distraction. Curse words are meaningless. Violence is real.

How do you protect the Americans in the live audience from the sweary words so their ears don't bleed?
The scottish guy makes a point !!!
there's no off position on the genius switch ..!
We need George Carlin back up in here.
God can you imagine? Even in the years since your comment there's been so much change, like I can't even imagine what he'd make of it.
I never understood this whole "keep swearing from children" bullshit. They're all going to grow up to swear anyway.
