I've been able to lip the top of my door panel on the door first and as long as the lock rod is in the locked position I typically have no issues sliding it into the bezel. Not sure what I could be doing differently as mine is also an 87
In the first video I talked about how I got the car from Tom. I wasn't looking for an 87 or any C4. Just seemed like a good deal at the time. I was wrong 🤣

So much easier to remove the lock rod clips (black with the red square)before installing the door panels then at the end just press the clips in
If I understand what you are saying, that is what I did. I installed the panel and didn't clip the plastic part on yet.
