I'm Japanese and an Ohtani fan, but I find those who try to put all the blame on Trout repulsive. Shame on them. Trout took an unabashed full swing in the matchup of the century. He deserves the same respect that was given to Ohtani.
Since nobody has a batting average above 0.5, a pitcher is more likely to win over a batter whose BA is usually about 1/3, i.e. a pitcher will win twice more likely than a batter, so Ohtani had the upper hand statistically in my opinion.
Trout don't get too depressed. Soon you will be on a mission to take the championship ring with Ohtani. Nothing changes the fact that you are the GOAT. I am rooting for the two of you again from Japan.🙏
It was actually a really exciting game. Trout versus Ohtani to end it definitely made it way more exciting, but a one run game in the championship is never boring. There were four homers including one from Schwarber that still hasn’t landed. I enjoyed it even before the final AB
As an Angels fan, please baseball gods let two of the greatest win the World Series or at least reach the World Series together. Arozarena just saved a lot of runs from japan which is why it was even close but the bases were loaded many times. The team USA fielded the best batters yet the best they could do to score runs was 2 solo homers. It wasn’t luck that japan made it through, they had the fundamentals, they can bunt even in 2 strikes and everyone is willing to bunt just so they can move the runners, they understand base running and barely made errors in fielding. I can't even use the "we didn't have our best pitchers" excuse because our stacked offense should've had no problem overcoming the 3 runs our defense gave up! Solid game, looking forward to the MLB season now :)
Yeah, that "we didn't have our best pitchers" excuse is super lame... I cringe every time someone uses it! Especially when you consider the fact that 70% of Japan's roster has never played in the MLB! They are just a better team! Far more fundamentally sound and disciplined! Simple as that!
@@georgekouts While I agree, I still think it is a sound argument in some cases. Every country sent their best players (for the most part), while some of the USA's absolute best players didn't come. However, as I said before, this roster was more than capable of winning it all, especially considering the arguably mediocre bullpen wasn't even our downfall in the finals!
@@insidiouslol2682 In all honesty, there truly is no sound argument... again, the USA had a roster full of MLB talent, no other country had that luxury. Numerous teams had some top level guys who didn't participate, but even if they had played for their countries, those teams still wouldn't have had an ALL MLB roster. So for me, there is no excuses to be made! The USA team lost twice, while Japan finished undefeated! The USA lost to a team with a roster of players that have never played in the MLB (with the excemption of 4 guys)... their starting lineup had just 2 MLB players on it! Yosida doesn't count, because he has yet to play for the Red Sox! Othani and Nootbar were the only major leaguers on their championship game starting 9 ! When Darvish pitched, then they had 3 ! The USA simply lost to the better team, a team far more disciplined and fundamentally sound that outplayed them. It's that simple! Take care!
@@georgekouts I'm definitely not disagreeing with you that the US had the best roster to win the tournament yet still got outplayed by less-experienced teams and a blatantly superior team effort from Japan! I'm just saying that the US is notorious for not taking the WBC seriously in the past; therefore, many players making the big bucks don't want to go and risk injury. That said, the energy this year was very different. The US absolutely took the games seriously, so I'm not questioning their effort! However, it leaves some to be desired when trying to compare the strength of a nation's best players when a good amount of those HOF-worthy stars don't make an appearance, which is the only reason I'm saying that argument has any merit. Still, this team was stacked regardless.
@@RJTradess The problem is baseball isn't a sport where two players are enough to carry a team. The game is far too reliant on the strength of an entire roster rather than a few superstars. If a single starting pitcher could start every single game (such as if games were much more spread apart/shorter season), that might be a different story. Same goes for if the batting lineup was more like 6 players instead of 9 (more plate appearances). The Angels are unfortunately going to need much more help lol
They happened to get injured in different timeframes, don’t forget Ohtoni had surgery then Trout almost had a career ending injury last year. It is just unlucky for Angels who fell down from a good April winning streak. We angels fans still believe and feel blessed to have this treasury. ❤
People that don’t think Ohtani is special are just a bunch of haters! Great matchup to end the game , wish Trout would’ve taken him deep but if you’re a baseball fan, you can appreciate it!
I think Derosa's right. He is dominating MLB the way these MLB players probably did when they were the best kid in little league. Its almost unbelievable. This was by far the best WBC I've ever watched. I wish it was every 2 yrs now!
No in game move by US in a tight game. When Turner got on and Realmuto swing at first pitch to pop up, pretty much sum up how stubborn US hitters were today. Ohtani was incredible as we all expected but the outcome of game would have been different if US had a manager who can actually make in game moves....
Pete Alonso sat on the bench for a one-run loss. Also, when Adams was clearly struggling nobody was warming up behind him. It was a great game but DeRosa has some questions to answer.
And Mullins also swinging at the first pitch that inning. Selfish, brainless baseball. Didn't even give the fastest guy in the game a chance to get in scoring position.
@@warlordop713 He is 28 and still getting better. How can you watch his play and still call him bad? He is one of the only successful combo hitter/pitchers in the league. He is elite at both positions and successfully backstopped Japan to beat the USA. Just because he hasn't hit massive milestones yet doesn't mean he isn't gonna do it
Hats off to Japan. Ohtani fantastic love that dude. Little sorry for Trout because I think he was having an off game. BUT no excuses when you're a paid pro. Gotta show up when it counts and Ohtani showed up.
There's probably no one in America who has analyzed Ohtani's game as much as DeRosa and Trout obviously has watched him play for years now. Despite all that insight and information, actually being able to do something about it is an entirely different story, especially when you've only got one inning to figure it out. The statistical chance of anyone, even Trout, getting a hit of Ohtani in that situation is incredibly low.
@@redsox0213 What also impressed me was 20yo Takahashi in the 5th. That kid has ballzzz! He not only took on America's big guns, he pitched to Trout in his zone and still got the strikeout. I honestly thought Japan's manager had gotten himself in trouble going with such a young kid in that situation, but boy did he prove himself to be a rising star!
Imo the lack of actual Ohtani-Trout matchups worked in Shohei’s favor, other guys like say Alex Bregman have faced Ohtani dozens of times in live game so they’re kind of familiar with Ohtani’s pitching patterns, while Trout knows a lot about Ohtani analytically but has never faced him in a professional setting
Love Trout, one of the greatest to play the game. A devout family man, doesn’t do stupid “celebrity” things, a low profile guy. Unfortunately, he’s a lousy interview. Lots of “you knows” and “I means” a man of few words I suppose.
Nothing to be ashamed of. It's a game where one team wins & one team loses. But I suppose many different games are designed that way (basketball, checkers, sprints, paper-rock-scissors, boxing, etc). But the most important part is the sportsmanship. Why, because in the end ................ it's just a game.

Take care!
NPB主体のチームにはMLBの優秀な打者のみではなく投手もぶつけないと簡単には勝てないという証明にもなった良い試合でした。運が悪けりゃアメリカも負けてしまうのが野球です
Still, this team was stacked regardless.
this hurt more than my first real breakup, i pray we get to see this matchup one more time before the King hangs it up ...
This is round 1. We would like to watch such a wonderful game.
A team with two superstars like this must be strong, right?
You would think so 💀😂 but angels management is very bad
@@RJTradess The problem is baseball isn't a sport where two players are enough to carry a team. The game is far too reliant on the strength of an entire roster rather than a few superstars. If a single starting pitcher could start every single game (such as if games were much more spread apart/shorter season), that might be a different story. Same goes for if the batting lineup was more like 6 players instead of 9 (more plate appearances). The Angels are unfortunately going to need much more help lol
This isn't basketball
They happened to get injured in different timeframes, don’t forget Ohtoni had surgery then Trout almost had a career ending injury last year. It is just unlucky for Angels who fell down from a good April winning streak. We angels fans still believe and feel blessed to have this treasury. ❤
Trout is an american hero. what a cool guy.
People that don’t think Ohtani is special are just a bunch of haters! Great matchup to end the game , wish Trout would’ve taken him deep but if you’re a baseball fan, you can appreciate it!
He is special, but a bit overhyped. Yamada was more clutch in batting and got completely overshadowed
I'll be at the next WBC for sure!
That kid is good no matter what👍
Ohtani is really gorgeous and humble
World Cup level drama, love the once every 4 year format of this tournament.
as someone that comes from a country that stops for the World Cup, the 4 year gap is one of the great things about it
Glad Japan got the crown, much deserved
I think Derosa's right. He is dominating MLB the way these MLB players probably did when they were the best kid in little league. Its almost unbelievable.
This was by far the best WBC I've ever watched. I wish it was every 2 yrs now!
No matter who would of won that exchange both guys have a lot to be proud of..
Classy Mike Trout, he's still a WINNER!!!
Mike trout x Shohei ohtani best duo ever.
a mental victory for trout..
That’s also what he said after he went 1 for 12 in the 2014 playoffs…
No in game move by US in a tight game. When Turner got on and Realmuto swing at first pitch to pop up, pretty much sum up how stubborn US hitters were today. Ohtani was incredible as we all expected but the outcome of game would have been different if US had a manager who can actually make in game moves....
Pete Alonso sat on the bench for a one-run loss. Also, when Adams was clearly struggling nobody was warming up behind him. It was a great game but DeRosa has some questions to answer.
Yeah, absolutely not a fan of DeRosa. Thought he was a pretty worthless manager.
@@Bobbybabybobbybubbie Pitching was restricted by players mlb teams. Schewber should've been replaces by Alonzo
And Mullins also swinging at the first pitch that inning. Selfish, brainless baseball. Didn't even give the fastest guy in the game a chance to get in scoring position.
I hope this sparks the interest of ALL American MLB players to want to play for their country!!!
Ohtani might actually be the best baseball player of all time
100% overhype
@@sumandsubstance7881 How is it 100% overhype though? He has the stats and achievements to back up the hype
@@theonlyraid He’s in the 700 club or the 300 win club? Didn’t know that. I must’ve missed something. 🤣 🤡
@영화연극 I forgot to mention the 3,000 hit club too.
@@warlordop713 He is 28 and still getting better. How can you watch his play and still call him bad? He is one of the only successful combo hitter/pitchers in the league. He is elite at both positions and successfully backstopped Japan to beat the USA. Just because he hasn't hit massive milestones yet doesn't mean he isn't gonna do it
Thank Team USA for the final match.
All countries want to be final with USA, but not others.🎉

The real WORLD series
Ohtani was throwing crazy good pitches. No one was hitting that.
We have learned that it is impossible to defeat unicorns with trout alone. There are a lot of people who need to be brought into the next wbc.
この物語はまだまだ続きます。
佐々木をはじめ若い選手がもっと育つと世界中のチームが打倒する対象になれるかも
鈴木誠也も戻って来るし。
love trout
2 of the best
I think that may be why Ohtani didn't throw a splitter. Knows he hits that zone well.
@C.E. McKenney so true. Honestly I was thinking only Japan had the actual pitching depth to pitch to the US.
@@trevorhe3103 Definitely the pitcher has the advantage at first.
Thanks to my beloved Mexican team for giving it all. Congratulations to team Japan and team USA for giving us a memorable baseball game.
Mexico played really well in the semifinals, it was a classic in a tournament that had one great game after another.
The GOAT. Nuff said.
angels are tottenham of baseball.
The Best "Round 1" we have ever witnessed!!
It was a coin flip game sad that there has to be a loser
まだ物語は始まったばかりです。日本もアメリカも他の国々も
What a classic game! 🎉
Japan has a samurai like batsman- Kazuma Okamoto😅 I think that's the unexpected.. Not only did Japan won it for themselves but for the whole Asia too... Yet it also showed the huge gap between them.. 😅
Not bad for the guy who came runner up for the AL MVP!
Class act by like trout
