    To avoid confusion most call the electric buttons, Switches and the pieces of track that change the direction of the train, Turnouts. It’s good that you’re painting all of the foam because without the paint the adhesives May attack the foam and melt it. They make one called, For Projects that won’t in case you need to join some foam that is not painted. Everything is looking really good.

    Hi Ken. We are enjoying the new channel. I Have a suggestion for storing all those train cars you have. If there is room for it, you could install one or two pullout drawers under the table to store the cars and any other accessories you have. You can buy metal, ball bearing, telescoping drawer mounts that support 100lbs, so the drawers could be the entire width of the long edge of the table. I know you can get ones that extend up to 28”, but they probably make longer ones. You could even make one a shelf and create a second working train setup.

    The fun and challenging part of model railroading is the challenges that you encounter as you build. How to make something work. How to lay it out. How to wire it up. I really enjoy the time I spend on my system and I can tell you do too. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy the journey

    I remember having an HO scale train set. Never built a layout for it but I wanted to. I remember my first "modern" locomotive I bought at the toy/hobby store in the shopping mall around Christmas time. I was probably in Jr High at the time and it was a red/silver Santa Fe GP38-2. Only like $27 new at that time.

    Liquid nails? I would recommend everything be removable. They have rail spikes to nail down the track. Remember that everything is removable. As you go through the process you’ll find it necessary to move stuff around.

    What happened to the Cork Roadbed? It really makes the layout much more realistic. Cord, then track, then ballast. If desired, much later, you can use an airbrush to weather the track and ballast.

    You've inspired me to start working on my big trsinset in my attic agsin, which need a few tracks completed and the rest of tge scenery. I share your frustration with track connections. They're a pain in the butt to get connected. I have a few of my older tracks where it slid under the track and I had to hold them with a pair of players to get them to stay. I love how your setup is looking do far. I have a bunch of electric switch tracks I still need to set up, though the wiring may be shot to connect them to the switches as it's pretty old and brittle.

    I really enjoy the content on your new channel. One question…you had shown cork bedding for the track but in this episode you glued the track directly to the foam board. Do you plan on using the cork track bed? I also agree with a prior comment that gluing the track down does not allow for changes or repairs without destroying the track. There are track nails made to look like railroad spikes that would simply press into the foam board. Just a suggestion.

    • @Kens265
      @Kens265  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I should have looked into that

  • @littlejohnny47
    @littlejohnny47 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You might have liquid nails handy but don’t use it for laying track! Using a water soluble glue such as Elmers or Titebond white glue is better. Also, although I am sure this comes too late, lay your cork roadbed under all the tracks going directly on plywood or OSB - to keep the track levels even and transitions from the switches, etc. smooth. Use long dressmakers pins to pin the cork down as the glue dries, and then you can reuse them to pin the track down to the cork roadbed. (By the way, the cork roadbed splits in half and the beveled edges go outwards. Then your ballast can be sprinkled down and glued with diluted white glue using an eye dropper or whatever you find works best.) Regards.

    i Hope you have tested all the track with trains before you Glue it Down if not your in trouble as the track must be Perfect or have so many Problems i Worry about that grade to re trains inclines are really a Pain to get right so so a train with trucks will go down and Up you should Constantly test the track with trains as you build that's a Must Hope this Helps
