    I've watched, by far, more railroad footage on YT than anything else. Love my Chesterton IN live cam. But this HERE is truly the BEST. Good Job! Well done.

    Shay engines are fascinating to see and hear. Haunting whistling in mountains.

      I live a couple miles from Cass. The sound echoing down the valley is indeed hauntingly beautiful.

    Thanks for your consent to use a short clip from your video. I will certainly heed your request since I also believe that some of these historical things deserve to be preserved at least to educate people of the way technology has evolved.

    Shay 6 is definitely a Western Maryland steamer, however, it's missing the "fireball" that is displayed as my profile picture. Shay 6 should rightfully belong to the WM historical society in its home state of MD

    • @ChristopherKnode
      @ChristopherKnode  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lukas Kurdziolek I have to disagree. She did not leave the factory in the fireball paint scheme. She also spent most of her life in WV hauling coal. I here rumors of 1309 having fireball paint.

    what's inside the diamond stacks is there like a spinning fan which makes the smoke in a pattern and also traps the cinders?

    • @ChristopherKnode
      @ChristopherKnode  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's built like a standard diamond, the should be a devise that redirects the exhaust outward to push the cinders away and the screen catches a lot. No fan as far as I'm aware

    • @odinyggd2197
      @odinyggd2197 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No fans, just a series of baffles to give the smoke a spin and throw the cinders out. The blast of the engine exhaust up the stack makes it move fast enough for it to perform as a cyclone separator.

    Did you actually take a ride in these trains? Do they always have a double or a triple header? How were you able to able to shoot a footage of them, if you were taking the ride yourself. I plan to be in Cass next week and was looking for some tips to get some nice footage myself. Any suggestions and tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    • @ChristopherKnode
      @ChristopherKnode  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vineet Arora I have ridden behind all of these engines and on separate occasions. most weekend bald knob excursions are double headers. This was a private charter and most of the shots are only accessible by train. There are some crossings you can drive to, I have done this on a separate occasion. Don't be shy and feel free to walk back to the shop complex and look into shop tours. And if it isn't to late look into the lodging at the company houses. COME PREPARED FOR ALL TYPES OF WEATHER. This is the mountains. It has snowed in May. Enjoy your trip.

    • @ChristopherKnode
      @ChristopherKnode  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vineet Arora , Your welcome, PS 99% of Cass trips are pushed from the rear for safety up the steep hills. So these engine at the front shots are uncommon on a regular weekend. Drive safe.

      Aah! I see. I would have never thought of that. Here is what I hope to do. I would like to ride the train one day and spend the second day taking videos. And I would not be there over a weekend. I will be pulling in on Sunday evening and stay for a couple of days. Hoping to still be able to ride the train.

    How come the wheels of the loco are so strange. The exhaust is polluting. I won’t blame them for phasing out the steam trains. If 10 of them are running, think of the environmental impact.

    • @spuriouseffect
      @spuriouseffect 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We ship raw materials half way around the globe to be processed in countries with little or no environmental regulations, and then we ship the products back around the planet again. Globalism has essentially tripled down on global pollution, and you're worried about a few old scenic train rides? LOL Welcome to the age of insanity.

    • @spuriouseffect
      @spuriouseffect 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@voidjavelin23 And yet the rich and powerful, and their paid politicians, are still flying around in jets, living it up in big oceanfront mansions, and making it impossible to produce products locally, all while telling us that we have to pay trillions to convert to electric vehicles. It's a joke. Absolutely none of the climate predictions they've made over the past 30 years have been true. None of them. The Maldives are not underwater, the sea isn't drowning coastal communities, and they even had to take down the signs at Glacier National Park that said that all the Glaciers would be gone by 2020. It's insanity to believe anything Governments, and their subsidized "scientists" say. They're all owned by huge corporations, along with their media.
