    A little history - this is Heisler shop number 1591, 90 ton, built 1929 to an earlier design to use up spare parts on hand. Owners were Bostonia Coal & Clay Products Co., New Bethlehem, Pa as their #2, then Meadow River Lbr. Co., Rainelle, W. Va. their #6, and then Cass Scenic RR #6. This info from "The Heisler Locomotive 1891 - 1941", Copyright 1982, so Cass has owned this loco since before 1982.

    Before the V8 SUV, there was an All Wheel Drive V2 Steam Locomotive. Looks good, sounds great, and I will bet it was a real workhorse for logging on tight corners with good power and traction. The drive gear seems a bit more elegant than the more common type of SHAY that we see on the West Coast.

    • @mumfordthepitbull4581
      @mumfordthepitbull4581 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, with the enclosed gear box these were also popular in strip mines because the gears were protected from all the dust.

    All wheel drive locomotive?

    • @mumfordthepitbull4581
      @mumfordthepitbull4581 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, all wheels are driven by the central drive shaft. On each truck one axle is gear driven and the other is driven by the side rods.

    Subbed,also, what camera did you use ? The quality of the image is incredible

    • @arborist57
      @arborist57  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Canon Vixia. I bought it a couple of years ago when I started selling DVD's on my website. www.passingtrain.com, the other cameras I was using didn't have the clarity I was looking for. I actually wound up going back to a number of railroads & re-shooting hours of footage which didn't look good enough to me. The views up from the roadbed in other videos and the longer version of Cass on my Volume III DVD were shot with an iPhone 5.

      Harold Walters did you have to change some of the settings ?

    • @arborist57
      @arborist57  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I set the camera to MOVIE mode. I was a cinematographer and professional photographer for 15 years. Everything I did professionally was on film so here I am 20 years later learning video. I find myself shooting about the same ratio that I shot on film, 10 to 1 which becomes problematic when a RR only runs 1 or 2 trains a day. I like to scope my locations out in advance and I prefer locations that others are reluctant to go. The shot at 4:53 is a good example, it's a 50 second clip from a 5 minute take which took me over an hour on foot to find and set up. It pays off in the long run, an engineer from the Strasburg RR bought my DVD's, in his words, "RR DVD's are everywhere but there's a quality to your shots that makes them very watchable."

    Why have a piracy warning when this is free and publicly available on any device?

    where is the class-B climax they always had?

    • @MK1Panzer
      @MK1Panzer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard from one of the Durbin employees that the 2 truck climax was run improperly and it was damaged, something about one of the engineers running it like a rod locomotive. I believe it is sitting in the storage siding at Cass until it can be repaired.

      If it isn’t a Cass engine, why does former Cass engineer and shop foreman Artie Barkley give advice on how to properly run and maintain it?
