As an Irish lady from county kildare I've heard a few versions of The curragh of kildare. But none as good as dexys. They sing it brilliantly.

My daddy was born in the Curragh (1926) army camp and often recited the “curragh of kidare “ sad now that he has passed but happy to find this on the tube.

In his introduction, the Irish Ambassador mentions the then recent 'Imagining Ireland' concert at the Royal Festival Hall. I believe that Rowland did a version of Knowledge of Beauty/My National Pride at this gig. Does anyone know if there is any video or audio available of this performance?

however nice the ambassadors words are the reality is that the Irish government has done absolutely nothing for the Irish over here. while our parents and their generation went without to send money back to Ireland to keep things afloat the Irish government has cut aid to services here repeatedly and stood by idle while our elderly have died in poverty. sickening really that they then laud us...

@@Justme-zo3jy Please understand someone's comment before you answer it and this Irish need to silence someone by shouting abuse with a non thinking off the cuff comment just proves his point.
These people had to leave in 50's, 60's, 70's due to poverty. In practice they couldn't have returned home due to obtaining work and accommodation.
And likely he's not commenting about himself but the other Irish immigrants in London. He's making the general comment that Ireland always goes on about the diaspora but has done nothing to help them. And currently Ireland is one of the richest countries in the world.
