I’ve caught a 36 inch using 18 pound braid and a bobber where the floodway meets the red and my friend using the same thing caught a 38 inch it was crazy
Love this video! My dad took me to both of these locations (Selkirk and Lockport) when I was a kid. Of course we would go to either Skinners or Half Moon for lunch and ice cream! One time my dad hooked a 16 pound channel cat and he had me grab the net. As I stretched out the net the catfish practically jumped into it nearly pulling me in the river. My dad’s quick reflexes grabbed me by the pant loops holding suspended about the water. I was scared and screaming don’t drop me while my dad was saying don’t drop the net! Ah, the memories of shore fishing any where along the Red River!
Love the channel, lots of educational stuff for anglers of about all skill levels. Thanks to this video i have acquired my specialist badge for channel cats. Love the videos and cant wait to try catch and cook!
Hi jay.my name is wayne. Grew up close to blumenort. My folks are in their 80's.. I caugbt pike today at the local pit and made fish fry for them. My dad has hed some stokes but is craving catfish. I am poor. Wanna make a video?
In my cat fishing experience, the furthest downstream rod tends to get the most action when fishing in a group like that. Catfish "smell" the bait from all of the hooks and pick up the first tasty morsel they find. Always put the kids downstream and your buddies upstream.
I once made a comment that we needed more Nick on the channel.... little did I realize that when you live in a dungeon - and it’s summer time - you get blinded by the light when Nick goes outside. I’m not sure what was shinier, Nicks skin, or the goldeyes skin.... All kidding aside, why is Manitoba such a great catfishing spot? I would never think somewhere that far north would produce big cats, I have always heard of carifshing being popular down south in the US. Also the reverse slo-mo with the the pelican(?) or bird was on point. That sequence was great.
Westside is a great dealer. Was up ice fishing and our side-by-side broke around noon the first day of a 4 day trip. Didn't even call ahead and they got me in and had me fixed by 5pm. We honestly thought we were going to lose a couple days. BTW great video!!!!
If you don't mind sharing the location, which part of Lockport is that? I recognize the bridge there but I usually head down towards the boat launch and bushes. Hoping to catch some good catfish this summer
loved the video! great episode gonna check out Lockport tomorrow heat pending lol , we went last week but definitely wasn't casting the right stuff lol hoping to get a biggin on with a better rod and some good bait!
Hey Jay I was yesterday at Lockport and tried to fish for big cats but no succes! From 8am-12pm..I wonder what happened.. I used fresh hearing bait from cabelas cut it into pieces( did the same thing as you) but nothing...ps I was fishing near the locks(bad idea?) Thx
@@JaySiemens I could never understand the significance of the Master Angler in Canada. Guess it's not like someone has caught a new Providence record versus what people are use to in the lower 48 State's.

Well for father’s day we just got back from trying to recreate this video.... rain and a bored 12 year old don’t mix but my wife landed two goldeyes. No luck on part 2 as both of them were done with the trip. There’s always the Next time.
Hey bud great video! . Tried out the goldeye technique in Selkirk and got about 6 in a hour but sadly no luck at Lockport. To many snags and a broken rod :(. What part of Lockport is this ??
Thanks for the awesome video! I've never fished Lockport before, I'll have to try and get there this summer. I think I'll have to upgrade my rod and reel first though. I'm from Manitoba and have lots of free time, would you ever think about taking a subscriber fishing for a day?
It would be so cool if you fished in the james river in VA, the blue catfish can get up to 100 pounds! And the average bluecatfish is 30 pounds! Happy fishing. God bless you!
I’ve caught a 36 inch using 18 pound braid and a bobber where the floodway meets the red and my friend using the same thing caught a 38 inch it was crazy
I'm heading to Lockport first thing tomorrow morning to get some channel cats. Wish me luck!
Hope you had a blast!

That makes great sense!!
Does every species in Manitoba have a master angler?
Yeah, pretty much every species of sport fish. Check them out here:

Lockport has 3 awesome options for post fish food between Half Moon Skinner’s and Sonia’s stand can’t go wrong with any of them.
Very true

What rod where you using for the catfish
Shimano Technium, forget the exact specs. Also used a st croix top-n-tail.
Only jay can make Mooney fishing look so amazing 😂

Is there a more French Canadian name than Marcel's?
ILL Musky Hunter no
Haha, don’t think there is.

When they are hammering cats at lock, I for the love of my life can’t catch a big cat in the red.
Great video jay. Where could I pick myself up a measuring board like that?

Thanks for sharing your rig set up and showing how to properly “catch and release” these beauties🍺🍺🍺
Haha so that's where the 7 pound average I used to catch in Fargo end up moving to downstream as they get bigger!
Everything’s bigger in Canada!
