  • Seahawk 4 Inflatable Boat Floor DIY. In this video I show you how to make a DIY boat floor for an inflatable boat. The boat that I am making the floor for is an Intex Seahawk 4. My DIY boat floor is made from OSB “plywood” and is covered with indoor outdoor carpet.
    This Seahawk 4 boat floor build can be made in a few hours. My boat floor design is a two piece carpeted design that uses no staples. I used 3M Super 77 Adhesive to glue the carpet to the boat floor.
    Project Supply List:
    1- 4x8 sheet 19/32 OSB “Plywood”
    1- 6x8 Roll Indoor-outdoor carpet
    2- Cans 3M Super 77 Adhesive
    4- swimming pool noodles
    1- 28”x24” Piece dry erase board
    4- 1/2” plywood clips

    You should try fixing the 2 sheets together with a continuous hinge so you can fold them together, and they won't come apart. Also, the carpet should be enough if you folded it over the edges so the noodles probably wouldn't be needed. Great video.

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m working on either a hinge or some kind of steel bracket to better join the two pieces of floor. I have modified the edges of the floor with great stuff expanding foam! I show that in my latest video for this boat. You can watch it here th-cam.com/video/NKCrn6CCoGU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=G0zL7wWS7nxJVZLS

    • @jeffm6029
      @jeffm6029 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @mrfredsdiy - great video. Did I see in another of your videos that you tried plywood sheathing clips to join the boards together? Then you can remove them completely and the floor board would stack flush on top of each other? I’m doing a similar build now and debating between those clips vs a continuous piano hinge. Any thoughts?

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jeffm6029 I did use plywood clips. I have to say that I am not 100% satisfied with this solution. If you are in a position to store the two pieces of floor attached to each other, then a piano hinge might work better than the clips. I am considering making a metal two piece solution similar to how I mounted the seats.

    Instead of wood, would XPE work? That way it could just be cut to size and then easily rolled up for transport. The goal is that if the bottom hits a rock and starts to deflate, I can last the rest of the ride. (Lowest class of rapids)

    Yeah the floor makes a huge difference especially when you bring your dog on board
    I found you don’t even need the noodles it’s just the floor tucks right into the inner chamber and it’s not going anywhere

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I find the floor very useful as well. I mostly use the noodle at the rear of the boat. The space between the chambers back there is pretty big and if I step on that area the floor pushes down.

    Besides fitting in a car, is there any advantage to making the floor 2 pieces? And do you think a 1 piece floor would much stiffer than 2 or not really since it's on an air cushion on a lake? Thanks!

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A one piece floor is definitely more sturdy! I had a one piece floor in a previous project and found it to be superior. That being said, one of the build parameters for THIS project was to craft a floor that would fit in a car or SUV and still perform satisfactorily on the water. I feel as though this two piece floor design checks both of those boxes. I am 6’ 6” tall & 225lbs and this floor system works just fine. It also takes less storage space in my garage.

    • @fryncyaryorvjink2140
      @fryncyaryorvjink2140 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrFredsDIY I'll probably go there 2 piece way then, if I want to stiffen it up more I should be able to do it with a long pipe or two that can be be installed with at least 2 brackets per floor

    I love this video! I'm going to try in tomorrow! However, I'm a little iffy on the carpet due to mildew. Would that be an issue, you think? And is that plywood waterproof?

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those are legitimate concerns. The carpet that I picked up from Home Depot is indoor outdoor and is basically plastic so I have not had an issue with mildew. as far as the OSB sheeting (plywood), it is not waterproof but spraying the glue on there definitely provides a waterproofing effect to some degree. This is the second time that I have built this boat. my first Seahawk was about seven years ago and I had that vote for three or four years with absolutely no problems with the sheeting. It will not last forever, but it is affordable enough if I have to someday. Good luck with your project!

    Nine years ago, my first mariner 3 , I used OSB....you will find it absorbs any water that gets into boat, and then , the osb swells and stays, damp and heavy. The savings you gained by using OSB will ultimately cost more in weight and wood rot over time...Jus saying.
