Palantir of Orthanc needs to be on this list. Literally won me one game by itself by milling and doing 16 damage. Usually netted me an additional 3-4 cards throughout the game.
Did a 29 player Prerelease. Went 3-1, placed 5th overall with a Red Black deck, splashing a bit of Blue. Witch King of Angmar carried anytime he entered. The swampcycling troll was also really good.
So I ended up getting both Saruman of many colours and Elrond master of healing in my sealed pool, but I didn't have enough support for either. Still ended up winning the event off of Mirkwood bats
So my sealed pool had the spider and radagast, but neither were even close to how good call of the ring was. I had 2 but started with one in the sideboard, but quickly realized the card plays incredibly and added the 2nd copy. I went 5-0 in my matches (10-1 in games) and that card was the reason. We’ll see how it plays in draft, maybe I just got super lucky and had a great deck for it that won’t come together often, but I’d put it in my top 3 for sure, probably @ #2 behind you #1 pick
Yeah i found it pretty strong in my arena seal as well. The palantir is also pretty insane though, give you the cards without cost the life and in any colour and without needing a creature on board. Call of the ring is insane with the when you tempt triger on cards too.
@@JustRightPinedo no, early in the game I would but when I started getting low on life, I’d built up enough resources where I could just cast my spells each turn without running out of gas so there was no need to
How does the one ring not make this list? Did I miss where card draw is bad? Seems like it would slot into any draft deck and should be high if not auto first pick. Certainly a bigger bomb then scry 2, +2/+2, and fight with maybe a draw 2 on the back end but it may have to cost you picking a fight you win unless they have something that happens to trade.
It is definitely really good (I gave it a B+ in my set review, and an A- or higher is a bomb), but I don't think it is a bomb. These days one really needs to add to the board in Limited, and it just doesn't do it. It eventually grants you insurmoutable card advantage, but the main problem there is the word eventually. In short, it doesn't do enough quickly enough to turn the game around in your favor, especially if you're behind.
Hey, love your videos, but I think you missed one card from this list: King of the Oathbreakers. It's such an efficient flier that your opponent can never remove. Just imagine making it your ringbearer,. You gave it a B+, but I would give it an A, and put it at about number 4 on this list.
I mean, the ceiling of the card is a 4-mana 3/3 flyer that your opponent can't kill. That's really good, but it also gets stonewalled by commons and uncommons with reach and plenty of common and uncommon flyers.
WOTC really needs to start mana-gating these defensive abilities. Discarding a card is almost not a real cost in limited. Getting real "Dream Trawler" vibes from this which, thankfully, this is Mythic and not nearly as busted as Trawler.
Well considering dream traler cost 1 more mana and needs 2 mana of 2 different colours you would expected it to be a bit more busted in a vacuum. I would argue the witch king might be stronger, as coming down a turn earlier, not being anywhere near as colour intensive is a massive upside. Hexproof v.s indestrucible deals with different removal types, but which king is a strong blocked in limited due to indestructible. Also witch king would just beat a trawler either by blocking with indestructible, or forcing the traler to be saced if it deals damage. I would much prefer the witch king in a limited pool over the trawler in most cases as the casting requirement on trawler make it dificult in limited.
@@XenithShadow That would be a valid take but you have to remember that DT has: Lifelink, gains +1/+0 when you draw any card, and draws a card when it attacks. You can't race it, you get out-valued by the draw and just lose. Witch King just gets dealt with using Exile, Bounce and Pacifism effects (way more common in limited than another 5 power flier), and can be raced in some situations (still powerful).
Great video ! But the saga “There and Back Again” says put the mountain on the field. It doesn’t say “tapped”, so does the mountain come in tapped or no?
There and Back again: Loads of Upfront costs, two turns of do-nearly-nothing that will lose many games. Smaug is strong, winning with black Sac synergies after his death is stronger, though. Aragorn, Saruman and Sauron : Probably close to unplayable for the price in Limited, without serious amounts of ramp and fixing . - The hope here is that LotR might become nearly as slow as Dominaria, due to prominent mechanics like Food that help to prolong and stall the game. Then they may actually win games between turn 9 and 15.
There is no way that Aragorn, Saruman and Sauron are anywhere close to unplayable. There and Back Again could definitely be worse than I think, but the other three? It is virtually impossible they post a win-rate below 58%.
Agreed, There and Back on the low end is like a turn 7 Shivan dragon without its +1/0 ability and isn’t attacking until turn 8. The treasures on death will be irrelevant for a draft in most cases unless you have some sort of sac outlet, otherwise by turn 7 or 8 you’re not likely to have a hand full of cards to cast with the mana. The other 2 wizards have a narrow trigger with an upfront high mana cost and no ETB so may not even get a chance for value if the OP has any interaction.
Radagast does have an ETB that virtually gives it a floor of being a 2-for-1, and Saruman has a Ward that makes it so the best your opponent can do is get 2-for-1'd. So, even if they have interaction, you come out ahead. If they don't, they probably lose. That's a textbook bomb.
3 color, 6 mana creature that then requires you to cast 2 spells to get value not so likely to have high impact in a draft. Commander though he will be great.
The reason I always explain what bomb means is because when I don't, I get at least one comment referencing "box office bomb," something that is always bad.
Hey man, just some constructive criticism. I like to listen to these videos while I’m doing something and it’s almost impossible to actually watch. There are several card effects you don’t actually read or even paraphrase, and it’s really unsatisfying cause I have no idea what the cards do unless I go out of my way to read them on screen. You do read some as well but I would humbly request that you make sure you do so on each
As a Black man I’m glad some blue haired white girl decided I want to see a Black Aragorn, because I definitely did not enjoy the original trilogy’s characters along with anyone else 😒😒

Went against Witch King last night, that thing is a wall. Gross card, very very strong.
Same! Was at 38 life and got them to 2 life and still lost. That’s how much a brick wall it is.
For pre-release I pulled two aragorns but all of my multicolored cards, sign post uncommons, and legendary creatures were in black

Fun fact, I have a bomb. Granted, that bomb is "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)", but it's still quite explosive.

The Aragorn the uniter card is extremely good in commander , as many other cards in this are. ou could say this is a Commander masters set Light XD
completely undersold the Palantir. It warps limited games around it and is colorless so it goes in anything.

Maybe not as powerful in limited but Orcish Bowmasters is going to be an absolute train in Commander
Yeah it is going to be great in lots of non-Limited formats. It is merely really really good in Limited, not a bomb.
