Thinking back I used the red light for a short period of time but I was really scared so I took it down shortly after putting it up! I wanted to make that correction here!
One of my hens went broody in early summer. I put a dozen fertile eggs under her that I bought from a local ranch. She hatched 11 and raised them with the rest of our flock. Such a cool experience and I’ll never buy chicks or hatch and brood them myself again. ❤ Your chicks are precious! In the past, I have used a baby play pen for brooding and lined it with heavy duty trash bags with pine bedding on top.
Composting isn’t that difficult, throw it on your pile and throw some leaves or paper or dirt on it. Or just bury it in a bed you aren’t using. I often just bury my compost material in garden beds, from veggie scraps to coffee grounds anything! I think people have made it super technical so they can sell books! 😂😂 no on had a thermometer or probably even a official compost bin 100 or so years (maybe a bit longer haha) ago! Honestly it’s not that hard. Been doing it for over 50 years.
Thank you for sharing Asia, I always learn something new and become more inspired when I watch. 💜💜💜 Can't wait to have a permanent homestead of my own.
Shalom Ms.Asia, Good morning 😊. Pray y'all are doing well. Sorry to hear your baby girl gots strep throat. When my throat is that sore,I boil raw ginger root put honey in it,and feel better. I like mine spicy so I boil for about 20-25 mins. I didn't realize the quail was soooo tiny. However, I have heard they are a wonderful source of protein. Hope your girl feels better. Have a beautiful blessed day 😊. Shalom
I can’t believe your quail are still laying eggs! We have about 15 left, I think we hatched 30 last fall and I’m debating whether to add supplemental light or if I’m gonna put them in freezer camp. 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you for sharing and teaching us so much. I love watching your positive attitude through the good bad and the ugly stuff. You have helped me with not giving up on gardening when the insects are at their all time high.🤣 I realize that Chickens and Quail is not for me yet but I am looking into more natural herbs for better health. Thank you From 7b VA💝
Spice racks or lazy Susan’s can help with organization for the spices. Mines be in my 3 shelf cabinet one shelf be for herbs then seasons then things I’ve made and etc. congrats on your baby they will be in our prayer circle for you but you got this they got this momma hen
If they like messing with the water … put the water in a somekind of tray to help control the water dispersion in the tote… I did that with turkeys when I had them in a dog crate….it helped
Thank you for the tip! It’s not so much that they mess in the red and white one, it’s more that they are so small that they can get in it and drown. Well it’s what read or heard so I’ve always put the rocks or marbles in it to be safe durning their times.
Would you do a cull video for your quail or just talk about the process you do?? I love your chicken boots. I barely do anything with my composte. I just add chicken bedding, kitchen scraps( egg shells, coffee filter and grounds, banana peels, and some veggie scraps) along with plants from the garden, i also have bunnies and their poop is awesome. Don't forget to add water every now and then and just move it around when you are out there.❤❤
I have done one. Were you able to find it? I see @barefootonthehomestead answered, thank you! Thank you! Sounds like how I was doing it too, minus the bunny poop, I want bunnies. I need to find my mojo to get it set back up!
@@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead yes I did find it. I was watching some of your videos from last year last night. Thank you so much. You will get there. Homesteading is a lifestyle. Take it one day at a time.❤️❤️
Does your water have chlorine and fluoride in it? Do you think those things would harm the bird or kill it? Do you drink faucet water and is it filtered?

❤ if you put duct tape on half of the hole for your feeder, they will waste less and you can fill it up more!

Totally wish I knew how to do that without having to be present. I think it would be so cool!

Hey Hey!!!
Hey 👋🏾!
Good to see you Sis
Hey 👋🏾! Thank you! Happy you are here as well!
👍🏾
I want chickens or hens bad but I think it is more than I can handle plus not sure what my neighbors would say. Why were you afraid of the red light?
Does your water have chlorine and fluoride in it? Do you think those things would harm the bird or kill it? Do you drink faucet water and is it filtered?
I want to get quail can you recommend a good supplier?
I used eggs from Myshire Farm. They have a TH-cam channel.
@ Thank you I will check them out.
What do you do with the quail that don't survive? I'm just curious lol
The quail that do not survive go into the compost or I bury them. They are pretty small and will decompose quickly. We currently still have 8!
