Those who say "it's easy, just don't put ammo in your suit case" are being ignorant, it is way easier said than done. I can't tell you how many trips I have gone on where I may throw a couple extra mags in my suit case or overnight bag. In the US that is completely legal, assuming it is checked baggage. Even if I go through my baggage and don't find ammo, there is always the chance that I missed a round somehow. It is simply not worth traveling to that country. Furthermore we should be doing everything in our power to bring those guys back home. It seems like the easiest, most direct solution is for us to just not travel there. Don't show support for that country by spending money there and don't put yourself at risk.

If you people were bother to look at the news around Turks and Caicos, you’d probably also notice that last year an American NAACP leader fell victim to gun crime for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time while on vacation. You people need to understand this is just one fatal shooting that made mainstream headlines from the TCI.
Because of this, the government has extremely strict laws on firearms and ammunition. Even looking beyond the TCI, bring ammunition to any foreign country by mistake will have huge consequences. We are so strict on this because it keeps the community safer, and it keeps tourists and visitors safe too, who as I said earlier, are very susceptible to gun crime.
LET THIS GO FOR THE REST OF THE CARIBBEAN TOO - gun crime in the Caribbean, especially in the Bahamas, TCI, Haiti, and other places, is almost purely fueled by gun and ammunition smuggling originating from America, and finding its way down into the Caribbean.

Looking back, the only issue we had was at their airport in security. They went through everything and then searched us both. Good luck to the islanders who make their living off American tourists. Apparently you don't remember what happened to Aruba when they did an American tourist a grave injustice.

In a perfect America, that citizen might be arrested in whatever country they’re vacationing in but they would not be spending the night there. Either do this the civil/easy way or send in the gentlemen with 20 years of GWOT experience who’ve been praying for action the last 2 years.

Why should American send in its armed forces to invade a closely allied nation(the turks and caicos are a british territory) because some tourists broke a local law are are now facing the the same consequences as the locals. @@cgforuf the civil/easy way is to take responsibility for the laws they broke and take what ever lumps they get. The only hard way that is going to happen is pressure from diplomats and the state department. They are subject to the same laws as everyone else on island just because they are American doesn't mean they get a pass. Reasons like this are why I don't like mandatory minimums, but they are guilty of breaking this law.
From what I've been hearing on island is its not looking good for them it all depends on how they interpret the exceptional circumstances part of the law. Also after all the bomb threats and death threats half of the judges politicians on island want to give ryan watson the full ride witch is from 12 up to 15 years. Again I don't like it and understand why people don't want to come here because of the law.
But just because you're american doesn't excuse you from the laws of other countries wile in them. You can fuck around but don't act surprised when you find out. And don't hold out for military intervention because it's not coming

All these people in the comments must never shoot their guns. Its like nobody has any idea how on earth a round of ammo could end up in their suitcase. Dude, theres probably a random round like under my couch, in my junk drawer, in my center console, under the seat of my truck, in my sock drawer, under my bed, you get the idea. It would be extremely easy to end up with a round or two in your suitcase on accident. If you shoot guns regularly, and load up for regular trips to the range, this is a plausible mistake. Tf are you guys talking about?
