So my lecturer didn’t record our EQ class and uploaded literally the last 15 minutes with no explanation of how EQ works and just gave us a paper that told us what to cut and boost... never telling us how to do it... this helped a lot. Thank you. Like I honestly needed this
I know I'm woefully late in commenting on this, but holy shit. This is the first informative video explaining things that I am a noob to, that I didn't feel like I had to drag myself through 5 minutes in. A) not boring me to death with so much technotalk that I get confused, but enough to make sense and learn important terms (no rambling). B) Concise explanations with some examples (with the edition of a friendly manner). C) Makes me feel good knowing there is someone else that uses hands to demonstrate visually...what every word being spoken looks like. It didn't feel like it was over 20 mins. So nice.

I’m not in the habit of writing comments on TH-cam so that’s saying a lot actually 😁 I recently bought a digital guitar processor and that being my very first experience with *any* guitar pedal, I was a little lost on how to balance everything to sound good and close to what I have in mind. And the thing that I was lost THE MOST was EQ settings. I was just trying everything and everything and not getting any satisfying result. Then I found this video and now I know what I’m doing as what I should or shouldn’t do. I watched a lot of videos about this but this was the only one that made me really understand what’s what and what for. I had an old Rane ME 15 equalizer given to me some years ago and never even tried it out until today, have been using my 6-band EQ on my Mackie 16 channel Firewire desk only, with my Martin OM28V accoustic guitar fitted with an L.R. Baggs Ibeam Active pickup. And Wow! The sound quality through my Rane equalizer was much, much better. I will always use it now, that's for sure.
I have been running live sound regularly for the last 6-7 years and more focused the last 3-4 years. I have always wanted a good tutorial on EQ. I plan on taking these notes and applying them right away as a template/framework and then making them my own. Thank you for sharing a screenshot of your wisdom with the world. Most car stereos that have a Low, Mid and High are typically at these set frequencies, 100Hz, 1kHz and 10kHz. I wasn't aware of the 300Hz thing, I will check this out next time I am EQ'ing something... Thanks bro!!
Very good video! Obviously he has done a lot of mixing. But one thing you guys may want to consider when adjusting your EQ is how well you hear certain frequencies. The only way to do this is to have a hearing test done. Many musicians (and people like me) who went to a lot of concerts have hearing loss! 😂 Sometimes very significant hearing loss. Lol. I have bass biased ears. Meaning I hear low notes very well. But anything in the mid and high frequency ranges have to be at about 70 decibels or louder for me to be able to hear it. So the bottom line is adjust your EQ to what you like and what you can hear well or what you can’t hear well. My EQ looks more like a “frown” because of my hearing loss in the mids and highs. 😁 Just food for thought! 😎

What if a tenor and baritone were singing together and they both get the melody at some point during the song. And you only wanted to adjust the backup vocals during both instances... Seems like the frequencies you want to amplify would change so how would you go about doing that?
Hello,...does digital equalizers such as eq apo harm the quality of source signal?, I do use it for bookshelf stereo setup primarly but at the moment I do not have good acustics, so cant evaluate if it harm somhow to detail resolution, soudstage, clarity etc, actually I need it because I found my new dac trable expanded and I need to reduce it all the way from 2000 HZ - 3000Hz about 1.5 db and fter that about 1 db, so would it e preferable to change the dac until I can or eq is 99% ok?
Hi Aaron, How do you equalize a piano, electronic drum set, electric acoustic that are all running into the same audio mixer (Behringer QX 2224USB)? At the moment, I have the QX outputting to an equalizer (same one at the beginning of your video - the still image), then from the EQ to the AMP which outputs to two speakers and two stage monitors. On the mixer are the Roland keyboard, 5 mics, drums and guitar. Plus, two wireless mics - also Behringer. Thanks and awesome video. I am a novice but learned a lot from your video.

Agree with you on 4K in electrics (but it can of course get harsh). That's why some "bright" switches on amps are a boost around 4K.
