  • Are you struggling to find your illustration style? Most established artists have a unique style that fans admire and can be easily recognised. If you are planning to become an illustrator or digital artist you will most likely want the same: to define your own art style and to ensure that your art stands out. In this video I will demonstrate how to achieve this by analysing the work of George Tonks, a young and talented illustrator.

I try not to bring pen and paper into my work and in doing so believe I'm involving its digital footprint away from analog, hope this is evident from its dimensions..

I was thinking you don't mention anything about how we can think and plan our art so that we stay consistent... maybe you could talk about that? I have discovered I am generally impulsive which has made my instagram very scattered.... when I scroll through I I'm proud of some things but cringe at others, maybe there is a way to help us scattered artist to think more clearly? I don't think I have to have a broad variety of styles to be happy and yet the thought of restricting is scary, but when I think about creating something I could do some thinking before (and writing) about my likes and dislikes etc... I don't know, I just know there is much more to this topic and I'd love for you to try to devolve the magic that can happen

I have ADHD so my style tends to be all over the place, too. What I found to focus myself was pick one theme, one color scheme and one style I won't get bored with quickly, then challenge myself to create 6 images with those constraints. Then I only allow myself to change one constraint at a time for the next 6-9 images so that some things change but some things stay the same. This way people can see your evolution, you're growing and exploring, but others enjoy following your path more! It's like posting a gradient of yellow to blue passing through green instead of stripes of vibrant unrelated and clashing colors thrown together in chaos ;)
