Nice review of sit in vs. sit on top. I own several Bonafide kayaks and my favorite is the ex123. You can crate it or black pack if you choose, it fits on the rear deck. The ex123 is stable enough to stand in and ultra fast and easy to paddle. I’ve never flipped it and honestly can’t think of a time when I thought I would, its ultra stable. If anyone is seriously considering purchasing this kayak research the Bonafide group’s on FB. The Ex123 owner’s will all attest that it is a great kayak. I wouldn’t hesitate to paddle and fish out of mine anywhere a sit on top can go. But.... I don’t fish in the ocean or in water with class 3 or higher rapids. Lakes and rivers .... no problem. As mentioned in the video, always where a PFD and avoid unfavorable conditions. Nice job but as u stated early in your video, this isn’t your run of the mill sit in kayak. This one grows on you. Quickly.
While sit on top is good for some small waves, you won’t beat a sit in, with skirt and bulkheads for absolute second stability and survivability in REALLY rough water. Ever noticed sea kayaks and whitewater kayaks are all sit-in? It’s more than just the design; it’s how you handle it and how it’s outfitted.
WAE of Fishing That depends. If you have a quality skirt and well sealed hatches, the inside will stay virtually bone dry. It’s all about displacement. For the water to come in, air has to come out. Think of the upside down glass of water trick with the playing card (or thin coaster, etc). Since no air can come in, no water comes out. Same thing with a kayak. But for fishing? The trade offs of lack of storage and not being able to stand confidently? I have both types. I fish from a sit on top, but I stay away from chop and boat wakes. When I want to hit rougher waters and just cover miles comfortably, and especially in colder weather, it’s my sit in all the way.
I haven't had any experience with what you all described. I am looking at just fishing, not touring. Fishing you wouldn't have a skirt and the cockpits are large. Definitely not what yall are talking about. My fishing sit in years ago almost killed me in a freak storm.
Nice review, have you tried the flex wings? Curious as to why more reviews don’t mention the boat getting pushed by wind. Makes me question other reviewers tbh.
I have the flex wings on an SS127. Very helpful! I do still see a need for a rudder though. It's hard to explain what the flex wings do to the attitude of the boat.
Awesome review. I looked at first at the Bonafide Kayaks, the Ss107, and last year the Rs117. I also looked at the Feelfree line up and because it would be my first yak I went with the Moken 10v2 mainly because of the price factor. It will be another week before the outfitter receives it. (talked to them yesterday). I'll pick out a paddle when I get there. Anyway good review thank you for posting. Lake temp on Winnipesaukee up here in NH is 64° Have fun on the water this weekend.👍
WAE of Fishing I would guess the sit inside would allow the line to fall right in front of your feet as with a sit on top it might fall to the side and get hung up on a branch or something
Have you ever paddled the Native Ultimate FX 15? It's a hybrid canoe/kayak...I have that one and it has many of the same issues you mentioned in this video...but the thing is...I LOVE it!!!! I just try and take it out on days when the marine forecast is favorable
How about an old town loon 126 for a rival? I've been looking at the ex123, loon 126 and the crescent lite tackle. I think I should probably get an SOT because I bass fish but I just like the sit in style more. I do a lot of river fishing more than anything. I'm still kinda new to it all tho. I just don't want a "mini bass boat" I like simplicity.
For River fishing I would get a Sit In. The Old Town Loon 126 is a great built kayak (triple hull design with foam core), based on reviews I have read, it is a bit barge like due to the width but very stable, I can not say this from experience, but I will tell you that the Pungo 125 I purchased is quick, light and awesome for fishing. I purchased the Pungo for Camping, Fishing and Crabbing (PA, DE, MD, NJ, bays, lakes, ponds and rivers). The Old Town is built a bit better and is more stable but as I said before, a bit harder to paddle, the Old Town was my 2nd choice. I have not considered that fact. But, you have to bail them in rough water right?!

Hands down couldn't agree more when he said you wanna stay away from sit in kayaks on rough water I was like waitt.. what.. lol 😆
Crescent kayaks can definitely handle rough water and they are sit on top.

Very informative video Warren! Definitely a good resource as people are trying to decide which way to go on options.
Glad you think so!

@@WAEofFishing I get it, that helps. I am a fan of your honest reviews. Do you think the EX 123 needs a rudder?

Same to you! Congrats on the rig! Remember that life jacket!😎
@@WAEofFishing Yes thanks, I bought an Astral the day I bought the Kayak I think the Astral model is the Ronny. 👍
Nice Video, thanks for the info.
You're welcome!
Great information.. thanks for the videos.
Glad you like them!
I feel like fly fishing in this is would be a lot better than just regular fishing
I always wonder about line management when you are stripping line

Ahhhhh, good call out.

Smart! No I haven't paddled that boat. I don't even think I've seen it, I'll go have a look
They also have a pedal version. Thats what I fish out of, native ultimate fx 13 propel

I feel like the lite tackle is the boat for me but I keep looking at the ex123.
Hmmmmm
The EX is the best sit in I have ever used. No doubt. You would love that boat.

Nice!! Thanks for helping out!
Thank you for your videos. Very informative. I was thinking between the moken 10 v2 or the 12.5 v2. I am 6ft 1 in. What is your take on this?
12.5v2, not the 10' model. You will outgrow the use of the 10'
