I actually play a pure blood war domain cleric yuan-ti and it’s really interesting to play because if you pick say researcher or scholar you basically become a walking interrogation machine. Though because you do get a plus one to charisma if you roll well enough to begin with you just naturally get people to tell you everything. You also (if you’ve picked those choices) speak just about every language which comes in handy to keep murder hobos in your party from fighting everything. Bonus you also have all the cantrips, yuanti is broken you’re welcome.

Ha ha i like the idea that your keeping murder hobos at bay by being an interpreter. Very clever use, keep up the good work.

Okay, so our party captured a yuanti that was using child sacrifices for a ritual (I think to transform himself into a higher tier of yuanti) and he had tried to escape by having a pet snake (or another yuanti in snake form) bite him and pretend to die so we would abandon his "corpse"
I was in the tavern trying to work something out between our secret mindflayer npc companion and the bartender about straws and our friend who had fallen asleep because player couldn't make it to the session, but my familiar and the others were outside trying to figure out what happened.
My familiar, being an imp, I had eat the snake while on crow form while the other two argued about how to deal with the poison- health potion, suck it out, did we even have an antidote?
The guy got irritated by it by the time I came outside that he sat up, told us to shut up, and that he tried to trick us into thinking he was dead but we were so stupid that it wouldn't work. So we left him in the cart, watched over by gnolls who would eat him if he left in humanoid form, and an imp crow who would eat him if he tried to escape via snake form.
We took him to the big city and turned him in but a different doppelganger or changeling murdered the guard captain and used his identity to break him out (I used big brain to figure it out, cause he was dead, body a couple of days old at the time, but the guy was taken out for "execution" the day before, and other changelings know changeling tricks) we went to another continent to try and get him, but the guy with me finally was convinced that if we try to take this guy back from a country he was and upstanding citizen in we would be the criminals for kidnapping.
    But yeah, fun stories!

My first and longest running D&D character was a Yuan-ti pureblood sorcerer. Not necessarily evil, but quite self centered and hellbent and raising up his own castle and chunk of land for himself to rule over. Created a lot of campaigns around the city he founded.

I made a Yuan-Ti Zealot Barbarian for a one shot my party did in Exandria as a setting. An artifact had been stolen from his people and so he was chosen to go and find it, joining up with a Pirate Crew who was then sent on a land based mission to find out why the Pirate Captains drug supplier hadn't delivered the goods.
He was a Yuan-Ti Malison, who had human proportions but snake skin and eyes, who went by the name Malison but was given the nickname Sonny by the Pirate Captain, who took a liking to him.
Definitely the sort of fellow whose smile never reached his eyes and that you shouldn't trust as far as you could throw him.

@@Rookzer0 Not really. I basically just used the Monster block. So other than all the Yuan-Ti Pureblood abilities he gets, he can also use an action to turn into a medium sized snake.
The snake skin was more just cause I thought it looked cool.

There is a god, called Anantashesha. A serpent, the king of serpents who was said to lie beneath Vishnu in the cosmos. A six headed snake god, he would linger past the end and gaze upon the darkness past the end of time. it was said that when the light of the universe finally goes out, all that would be left is Anantashesha. I don't know, i just thought i'd throw that out there since i thought it would be a cool idea to try and implement that into a campaign, either using this god as a patron for a warlock, or a god to be worshiped by a cleric or paladin yuan-ti character.

In my HW campaign, the party killed the god who was the deity of the yuanti, so later in the next campaign in the same setting, one of my players wanted to play a LG yuanti light cleric, so justifying alignment, after their deity was slain the society became a wandering minority around the setting, and most of them would move worship to light or sun gods because naturally, snakes like warmth so after a time or yun in their society, they would look for something that would make them feel safe, warmth

I actually am thinking about playing a Yuanti pureblood fighter that has sort of gone rogue. He at some point decided he wasn't interested in being an acolyte for his snake gods as intended. So he picked up a Scimitar and a gold mask and left. He would later come into the favor of a Human nobleman and now has a ward... apprentice.... semi annoying traveling companion. And a cool Rapier! The mask should definitely make it harder for any party members to discern his true nature, alongside his hood that *totally* doesn't look like a cobra.

Okay this is a good video but that is a very important question when do you start the draw the line when it comes to shopkeepers dealing with these odd looking people in even monsters that come into their shops to buy Goods because you got to think this is just a human or Elf or dwarf if behind the counter and they got to serve whoever comes through that door you would think they will have that moment when they're not going to serve whoever comes through that door based on what race they are

    • @Rookzer0
      @Rookzer0  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I defintly thing that this kind of thought should be part of the game. Esspecially for monsterious races. If youre in part of the world where a 12 foot snake with a human face come into your shop all the time. Thats fine. But if yoi roll into a dwarven town where theyve never seen a drow before. It might freek people out.
The drizzt books talk about that a lot and i think its a good way to balance out character looks and allignments in game.

I really like my players being large sized characters. It makes designing dungeons and encounters a little more interesting. I make it more difficult for people to move past them. and they take penalties in hallways and corridors that would otherwise be normal. I think it's a great boon in combat and there is definitely a place to add challenges as well.
