I'm a fan of the supernatural/weird horror vibe that this season is going for, reminds me a bit of Twin Peaks. I don't really understand the people who complain about it, because one of True Detective's strongest qualities for me - especially in season 1 and 3 - is how it plays heavily on ambiguity over whether what we're seeing can be attributed to the supernatural or just hallucinations, visions or brain damage due to heavy drug use. Keep in mind that a lot of Nic Pizzolato's (I know he's not the show runner for this season) influences for the first season came from the likes of Robert W Chambers and Thomas Ligotti, so there's definitely a gothic horror and dark fantasy thread that manifests itself in different ways and levels throughout the show as a whole. For example, in season 1 when Rust is trying to find Childress in Carcosa and comes across what looks like a portal to another universe. Personally, I think the final scene in this episode where Lund speaks in a demonic voice is all in Navarro's head, but I think it leaves enough room for doubt that it could be real which creeps me out even more to be honest. Ultimately, I don't think that the show is going to have a fully supernatural conclusion, but I for one am invested in the story so far and I still have trust in the show's previous strengths, that I'm willing to go along with what's being set up. Looking forward to more reactions.

Have you seen the theory that there`s something in the water, like drugs. That would help with the seeing and hearing of things. with tuttle group behind it. I`m enjoying the season so far.

My theory is that there is some ancient god buried beneath the ice (the one alluded to in season 1).

I think this is most definitely a continuation of season 1 . I think they tried to make a tv show with each season being about detective stuff with no link to past seasons but after the failure of 2 and 3 they are going back to what made true detective so good in the first place ( season 1). I think the first season was phenomenal but personally I did not like the ending , they essentially stopped one dude and not the humongous operation as a whole which left me feeling unsatisfied. So I’m excited to see where this goes

I absolutely love this season. Have not been so scared watching something in a while. And the ties to the first season. I love Liz and Navarro's mutual understanding and constant bickering. I love that they brought in indiginous side characters and the troat singing. I love Leah, I wager she might be in danger and Liz might be close to loosing someone she cares for. And Navarro, I think she would be at a breaking point, Going full delusional/having supernatural visions. Maybe she is the key to this mistery. Something gives me the vibe that Hank has something to do with multiple women dissappearing or dieing in Ennis, including Navarro's mom. Not him being the big bad, but being associated with what is going on here. And for what the mines did to the water and land, it is no wander if they awaken and ancient angry creature. I think the key is the water.
