Amara La Negra spoke to VladTV about being born and raised in Miami and living with an immigrant mother who doesn't speak very much English. She explained that her mother always worked odd jobs while she was growing up so that Amara could go to dance, acting, and singing classes.
During the conversation, Amara also spoke about feeling lonely as a kid because her mother was always working and she didn't have any extended family living around her. To hear more, including her mother seeing the vision with her talent, hit the above clip.

It's a by product of the colonized mindset that's still very prevalent in the Dominican Republic. I am BOTH black and Dominican. Dominican American is my ethnicity, black is my racial heritage. Malcolm X called it Pan Africanism and it applies to all people who's racial lineage can be traced directly back to modern Africa via the slave trade, including the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, etc.

Africans in Africa never identified by race or the term "black" they identified by their tribes and if you weren't apart of their tribe they viewed you as an outsider and a potential enemy. Racial ideology is a doctrine that Dominicans don't subscribe to and we don't have too because we have the power and right to self determination!
