We live in Florida. We have persimmon trees as well. We have a doe that comes every year. She jumps the fence and eats the persimmons. We allow her to have most of them because she just loves them. This year she had a fawn with her. We are a family that hunts but she is protected by all of us because she helps keep the population of deer going. We never approach her or put anything out for her. She is wild but she loves the persimmons enough to come for them. It's a true joy to look out back and see her there for a few weeks.
Such a sweet video, Sarah beams in her green house, she is a plant whisperer…for sure…the dynamic duo strike again ( with a little help from dear old dad) and little darling Rebekah.. just cruising around everywhere…❤️🧡💛💚🩵💜
I got so tickled at Shawn singing his version of the Little House on the Prarie theme song 🤣 I love these types of videos where y'all just show us different things on the farm and life! ❤
I will never forget my grandpa and granny winterizing their homestead. No planting but preparing the land for the next season of planting tobacco, corn and cotton. Putting straw over the veggie gardens and going in to the woods with a trailer to collect firewood. Granny's stove until 1963 was a huge wood burning stove. Smoking pork of all kinds. Selling the cows for money. Their landlord finally put in indoor plumbing for their first indoor full small bathroom. There was always a well pump by the back porch. I loved the life. Hard. Family togetherness. Fun. Caught, processed and cleaned my first 2 chickens at 9 yrs old.
OMG, forgot about the black walnuts....In my childhood we also picked black walnuts in pails....We hulled these for Christmas...Forgot that treat.....after alot of work hulling them....Thank you for sharing....The wood fire place and furnace was also a childhood chore along with cleaning the chimney....Now 60, but those are the memories of homesteading!
I thought the ending of it was wonderful it was a really cute I didn't really think there was that much that you had to go through to have a farm that's an awful lot that you all have to go through I'm glad that the entire family worked together it makes me happy and thank you for bringing us all the videos that you do I really enjoy them
You are such a real joy to watch. I love you guys so much. You have such a great family. I still miss you guys opening presents. I loved watching the joy of the little ones especially
Great video! I enjoyed seeing what everyone was working on to get prepared for winter. Loved the end with Anna & David, and also Shawn's singing! Such fun!😀
Ms Janice, I just adore yall. Its the innocence and pure joy of your family is not only admired but respected. I grew up in central Illinois on a farm but we mostly grew soy beans and seed corn. I am amazed at how well everyone gets along. I live in Saint Louis but your videos remind me of home. I would love to just sit with some tea on the porch and listen to yalls stories while the kiddos play.
Love love love it! Every thing and every one! David and Anna are really turning out to be great hosts as they take their part in filming! Shawn is funny too with his way of working up his own lyrics to his original version of what a song should be. I had to laugh because I do the same thing many times too! Keep up the great work that you all do. You are all truly an inspiration to us all! God continue to bless you all in all that you do! ❤
Isn't it wonderful to go to your Root Cellar or Pantry, get the things you need to make a meal and say, I planted, grew and harvested all of this with love and now I can feed my family with what I have made. When I first saw Shawn getting ready to clean out the chimney and the wire brush was laying there, I thought you had a tree growing out of the roof. 😂Boy the Summer Kitchen turned out great! I really enjoy these snippet type of videos.
I just love the taste of black walnuts, especially when baking in the winter. I buy them in quart jars from a farmer sort of close. They have already been shelled and ready to eat. They have gotten really expensive but well worth it. Yummy
What a cozy video of your family working together, prepping for winter! I always enjoy it when you take us around with you on the homestead. Blessings.
adorable last part of this by David and Anna and Shawn singing adding words for Little House on the Prairie music such fun!!! and love ending how much fun Anna and David were having making the end part of this video. all who were in this video did a great job. Enjoyable to watch. Big THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for posting this! I was just thinking the other day that I would like to know how you guys prepared your animals for winter. This is my first year with ducks and we just built them a box for winter this weekend.
Good morning ☀️ guys! Illness has hit the home here. Praying it doesn’t spread to the children ❤ … thank you for this, seeing you guys happy, makes me happy
@ thank you so much! I was thinking of another video idea 💡. Maybe you could show us either your herbal meds you give to the kids and use and for which illness, or what happens on a sick day? I don’t wish any illness upon you obviously, I just mean, what WOULD be done. If not, it’s totally fine :) I was just thinkin’ :) 😊☺️
OH MY GOSH! ❤ Anna and David are too adorable! Falling into the water!! 😂😂😂😂 Too funny! And Rebecca giggling ❤😂😂 I wish I had a Greenhouse like yours Sarah!! I love gardening. Hi Janice and family. I didn't know we had pecan trees in MO. I love black walnut ice cream. Do you all ever make any even if you don't use all the walnuts. The pond skit was too cute.
That’s funny you said something about smelling the tomato plants when you touch them because right before you said that, I swear I had a phantom smell of the plants.
Just an observation- we never put the plants directly on the ground to overwinter. Hoyas were put on milk crates in the basement. Not on concrete floor. Other plants. Were laid on several layers of cardboard, old quilts, or scrap carpet. Certain house plants, were hung from several layers of wore clothes line to support the weight. I used the ladder in my enclosed carport. Then my sister and child moved the ladder and put all the plants on the concrete. Discovered it a week later. Too late lost my rubber tree plant, 49 year old Hoyas, spider plant. Too many. All because on the ground. I live in Alabama! Most of our winter is pretty mild. But can dip to teens or 5-6 degrees . Plants always did well going into colder rooms- off the floor. The fireplace was too much heat.
such a fun video, but also with some informative additions re cold weather.......Sarah does have a 'green thumb' as my dad would say .....David & Anna did great job 😄....thanks for sharing.
I love these videos as much as the food we eat in a week videos. Sorry for repeating myself but Rebekah is adorable❤ All your children are awesome! The kids did a great job with the video! 🤣❤️
We have other local families that we're able to purchase raw milk from when Daisy is dried off. However, this year I'm going to try freeze drying the extra milk we get from Daisy now and see if we can make it through her dry period by only using freeze dried powdered milk. We'll see how it goes! :)
Wonderful video! My brother played Hugh Downs and I played Barbara Walters in giving the news. I love Little House. Great lyrics, Shawn. Sunny Funny times forever . Precious memories. You all are better than actors. Wholesomeness is what you give out. May you all be healthy and have many years together. Black./. Walnut Malts.
