What I particularly like about this piece is that, even though the accompaniment is sophisticated, the clarity of the melody line is never once compromised. It rings out brightly as the most important element. Superb!
Thanks for the comment, it's really cool to hear such detailed feedback about the performance. I try to practice strengthening my independence of each individual finger on the right hand with the intention of doing just what you said, bringing out the melody above the accompaniment. Take care and thanks for the support!
Fantastic guitar playing. The melody is heard throughout the entire song. Finally a guy who can actually play a song !! Beautiful playing. Guitar players get so caught up in their own little world the melody goes out the window Any great musician keeps the melody throughout the song. Awesome job bro. 👍🏻
Brooks, I can't praise your interpretation and talent enough. Your version of this great song is beyond wonderful, especially your conclusion. You honor the music.
Brooks, this is one of the greatest guitar performances that I've heard - your tone, touch and timing are impeccable and very reminiscent of the godfather of the guitar - Chester Burton Atkins. I could watch this over and over - and I will!!!
This is a drop dead gorgeous version of this tune that reminds me of Chet & Lenny Breau's from their Album "Standard Brands". Great version Brooks! I hope to hear it live in May.
It just doesn't get any better than this performance....Outstanding Brooks....Thanks so much for sharing the great video for those of us interested in learning this beautiful arrangement!!!!
I've been a big fan of yours ever since "Back Porch Boogie". I stumbled across that little gem 'cos of following the late, great "Buster". I would like to think that you know in your heart, that your gift and your guitar playing gives an immense amount of pleasure to people. Furthermore, we get to hear and see you play. Your gift is a gift to all of us. Sincere regards LMF
All kinds of gorgeous! Every note of it. I think you are "one" with that guitar! Impeccable playing. Beautiful touch and style you have there. Quite the talent! ~Janie
I love the tune, I learned it from the real book; but I have to say your arrangement is Fantastic, as is your performance. Thank you for the inspiration.
You're killing me! The way you and and Tommy do those harmonics you must be aliens . Your version is now my all time fav rendition of this song. You seem to play it so effortlessly it gives the rest of us some hope that we might be able to learn this.
Hi Roger, thanks for watching. I am developing a new fingerstyle instructional site fingerpickinglessons.com and I am also doing a lot of online one-on-one lessons. Learning more and more to teach, everyday at Berklee!
Just beautiful! It is alway a treat to listen to you play. When I need inspiration to work on my own playing, I look to Tommy Emanuel, Eric Clapton, John Mayer... And most certainly, Brooks Robertson.
You're too good it shouldn't be allowed!! I want to be this good. I'm Spartacus....No I'm Spartacus. Seriously, thanks for that beautiful rendition. Look out Tommy.
Hey man I was one of the people who saw you play at the Portland jazz festival last year and after hearing you I was greatly inspired as well . I also think that's it's totally cool that you play with Tommy Emmanuel and people like that! Though I'm only 16 but this stuff triggers my attention so keep it up man! I really wanna consider getting lessons from you because I do have your business card :)
Thank you so much! Glad I could offer some inspiration! Here is a link to some of my online teaching materials and I also offer online one-on-one lessons 1) th-cam.com/users/TrueFireTVsearch?query=brooks+robertson 2)truefire.com/search/?q=brooks%20robertson
Wow Brooks, that was really beautiful. Love that tune...and reminds me a lot of Lenny when he played it on Standard Brands. I'll "steal" what I can....lol. Btw, that new guitar sounds amazing!
Hey Stan, thanks for watching. Someone out there did this tutorial - th-cam.com/video/IzV0TXGaDSE/w-d-xo.html. If you ever want help learning it I give lessons too -www.fingerpickinglessons.com/online-lessons
Thanks, Dovane! I use two AKG p170 mics, sometimes a direct input from the guitar pickup as well. From there I go into ProTools via a Focusrite Scarlett interface. In ProTools I add some reverb EQ and mix the two mics and DI. Thanks for the support, take care!
nice one dog! Kind of like the standard brands one? I bet you were dying to find Lenny's A13+11 voicing up there with the D#... and then you were like... damn!
Glad you liked it, David! This is an arrangement done by Fingerstyle legend, Richard Smith - th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=richard+smith+guitar+
Beautiful arrangement Brooks. And so nice to hear you playing nylon again (to which, as you know I'm totally dedicated). That's a sweet looking--and sounding--axe. No detectable piezo quack. What kind of onboard pickup system? I'm using the LR Baggs Lyric classical internal mic in my Cordoba C10--and loving it. With a touch of EQ it sounds just like an externally miked guitar.
+Don Mitchell Thanks Don! I hope you're doing great! The guitar played in this recording is the Brooks Robertson model Kirk Sand guitar. More info at - www.sandguitars.com Hope to see you in Portland sometime soon. BR
+Brooks Robertson I'm doing great. I've been gigging like crazy, playing pretty much every weekend. I've got 2 today, the second of which I've have to leave for in a few minutes. I'm happy for you that you're going to Berkley. Soak it up, man.

Is it possible to know which set up do you use, mic,amp and software to get this fully sound?
Best from France.

I’m not saying that the tone doesn’t come straight from Brook’s hands. It does. But how about the intonation on that guitar?
