I have 7 kids 12 and under, and we homeschool too. I think the more kids you have, the more minimal you have to be. Capsule wardrobes for the kids, only enough dishes to get through one day, very limited toys etc... but the part that makes all the difference is the routines. Every night after dinner everyone has an area to tidy, I go around and check the areas and sweep the floors and everything gets put away in every room. When you are very minimal it doesn't take long! But starting everyday in a fully reset house is a game changer!

I raised 4 children and worked full time. I had two girls and two boys. My laundry room was a hall closet so storing laundry was not an option. I did my girls wash on Fridays, my boys on Saturday and my husband and my laundry on Sunday. I also had a limit on clothing for each person. We owned about 10 days of clothes. There was a dirty laundry basket in our rooms. I like washing clothes in loads of colors, jeans and underwear. I also live in sunny Arizona so I hung all shirts, dresses and jeans to dry. This cut down on utility costs. I hung the shirts, dresses and jeans on clothes hangers so the laundry went from washer to hooks on the patio to the closet without being touched again. This also meant that my kids shared one dresser for underwear and socks. This kept the space open in their bedrooms. I never thought of myself as a minimalist but I guess it seems that way. Our finances were our defining factor. My husband and I are both educators which tends to lend itself to being in the public eye and our children as well. I purchased quality not quantity for all members of the family. Bedding was washed, dried and put back all on the same day. Also we had the motto of "Only feet touch the floor." "And everything has a place to live." I developed these routines to provide a safe, clean and organized environment for my family to have harmony in our home.

I love all of this, but especially the everything has a place comment. That is what we are working on with this family as it seems the zones and boundaries of this house are completely meshed. Also, at one point they said that everyone 10 and older did their own laundry but it seems like it has fallen into the wayside in the last couple of weeks so I think a very specific schedule and the discipline to follow that schedule is a great idea! The dad is building some shelves, so that every person Has their own clean laundry baskets, stored on the shelf and gets put away once completed. I hope it actually works but I’m excited to see a little bit of progress.
Thank you for the comment and for watching the video! This is super useful stuff.

I would add another washer and dryer. And definitely reduce the amount of clothes for each person.

Reducing clothes is our next mission and we’ll talk to the family about a second washer and dryer!
They might think it’s too much but we’ve seen a few TH-cam channels with large families having two dishwashers or two sets of washers and dryers!
Thank you so much for the suggestion and watching the video!

Reduce the amount of stuff would be the number one priority. Everything needs a place. Every child needs a place to put their stuff.

Agreed! Each kid is working on their own closet (with a grown up) and we’re helping to take advantage of the vertical space!
