Truth. I'm convinced I can get to or as close to a tone as possible for any guitarist except Derek, Mark Speer of Khruangbin, and Trey Anastasio. It's everything and all things about how they play that gives their signature tone more than any gear could.
I personally was convinced without first hear knowing who this is that it was guthrie govan playing without a slide, as he really has so much translatable godlikeskill
Had the pleasure of seeing the Atlanta show two nights ago. For a few brief moments it felt like I was transported back in space and time to an Almond Brothers concert. Perfect description below - this band is astonishing ❤
I am truly astounded by this group. I was doing random searches on Google about love, and you popped up. I could not believe my ears. You are the tightest band I have heard in ages, possible the tightest I have ever heard. Everyone of you are amazing. I thought real music was a thing of the past. Thank the Lord there are still some out there. Thank you so much for sharing on You tube. I am going right now to buy some of your stuff to start my collection. That's on my listen John penny that is a must see to go to the big house. As much as I'm a Derek fanatic I'm always drawn back to Duane there's just an aura and something spiritual about Duane as a person and a musician they both truly truly astound me. The retrospective boxset brought of Duane is just mesmerising.
I was fortunate enough to attend this show. Still gives me goosebumps watching the video. What amazing talent. Definite believer that music can touch and heal the soul.
+perpetuals3lf If you look up Sugaree / Angel from Montgomery, you will see how Susan changes when Derek takes the stage. You can see how in love she is with him.
I only wished he would look at her the same way more often! Of all the songs I've watched of them together, he only slightly shows his appreciation in the Sky Is Crying. Susan is worthy of his adoration and more in every song she sings.
I had a couple next to me when i lived in chicago that just played guitar riffs back and forth to each other on the porch like it was some secret language. I never heard them speak to each other. Sometimes it sounded like they were having sex. . . sometimes the music sounded like an argument. I really wished I had recorded some of it. These two kind of remind me of that
The individual musicianship in this band is simply amazing and yet they all bounce off each other, then melt into one incredible stew of soulful dynamic flavors. You could listen to the same song 10 times and hear it so differently depending on who you focus on. I've only recently discovered them and I know the lineup has changed over the years, but they are just fantastic! I really miss live music and have been searching it out on TH-cam lately and have NOT been disappointed. So much energy, spirit, talent & soul makes its living out on the road. I bet these amazing musicians have been about to burst being kept home thru Covid. Can't wait to see them out and on the road again!
Holy smokes! This is one tight band. Not one instrument had a bad note. Susan's vocals shook me to the Core. I'm just blown away by this song. Have to admit this is the first time I've heard it and it had me ready to shout. What an emotional rollercoaster. Just a great great song delivered by a great great band. Amazing.
During Derek’s solo I’m always tickled by the dichotomy. The guys in the horn section dancing and feeling it. Meanwhile Sue just causally sitting on that amp like “yeah this is a Tuesday night in our backyard after dinner. I see this all this time.”
This song just leaves me breathless. Every instrument, Susan's voice, Derek on slide, the horns, the organ....just fucking perfection. They need to come to China.
You know what is wild about this video? Derek Trucks is killer in this, and that being said, I saw them less than a month ago, and he is miles away from this in his playing now. The man keeps getting better!
I had the luxury of seeing the Derek Trucks Band on the Songlines tour as the first live show I saw as a kid, skated all day around Charlottlesville, VA, went back to the bar, and the band were all having a drink and eating. We figured we wouldn't bother them, and they were nice enough to chat with us after the show. 40/50 Max in the attic of a bar, that show solidified my love for music.
I love how the trumpet player in the red jacket looks like he's having a religious experience at 6:15. Indeed, listening to this incredible version of this song is like a religious experience!

Every time I hear anything from this band, two words come to mind. You know, other than "Damn, these guys are phenomenal!" Those words are "Joy" and "Love." From their songwriting, Susan's otherworldly voice (and underrated guitar skills), Derek's superhuman guitar skills (and was that really Duane's old Les Paul he's playing?) and on down the line. They have so much fun playing and it shows. The Joy and love show. The only time (so far) I've seen them live, they closed their main set with this. And it was absolutely magical.
I'd say the best slide guitar ever for sure!!! Maybe THE best guitar player ever, even though, I don't feel that it's about who's 'best', espessially when there are so many great players and kind people in the world. They seem like a match made in heaven for sure!
Wow! Derek really blows me away. I hear touches of Santana, Duane Allman (for obvious reasons - I mean he Is playing Duane's guitar), and Lowell George. That solo was incredible! This song is incredible for that matter! I have got to catch a TTB show live!

I truly have to say that these talented guys always put it all out there on the stage 110%. Each of the four times we've been fortunate enough to see the Band live I leave astounded that they are all able to give so much and ,then, do it again maybe even the very next day or a day or two later and again and again and again. These videos are awesome no doubt, but if any of you have not witnessed The Tedeschi Trucks Band live experience please do yourself a huge favor and make plans to do just that. I can promise you that you will not leave wanting.
I keep trying to figure out which I like best, Susan's voice or Derek's guitar playing? Gonna stop, 'cuz it's a stupid question. They are both beyond catagory.
I once read that he was in a store and wanted to get a medium sized vintage Fender amp and he was trying to get Susan to talk him out of it, and she said, like, "Well, if you get you one, get one for ME TOO!" Now, THAT'S a wife!
I've watched this like 100x and it took a me reading a thread on talking bass where the guy says Oteil is playing Berry's tractor bass, if I'll be damned if he isn't right!
So cool to see DT on Duanes Gold Top... Even if I'm a Fender guy that's just cool. I'd love to see DT and Dickey Betts playing together on their Gold Tops. No disrespect to Sunny Landreth or any of the other slide geni out there who I absolutely adore, but Derek Trucks is hands down the BEST slide player alive IMO... The Midnight In Harlem from Crossroads is amazing too, that solo just blows me away. I love this vid because it shows how much he looks up to horn players for their voicing and phrasing and has him playing back and forth with that amazing trumpet player. Another brilliant performance, I can't wait to see them here real soon.
What a great band . Nice bottleneck playing and not a plectrum in sight . Those vocals! .Bonnie Raite with more balls .Two drummers , beautiful backing vocals .When are they touring Australia next ?
These are great videos. Susan tedeschi got a great voice, she is a new Englander. I remember when trucks first joined the allmans, that happened in my time, Hayes is a great guitarist and I did see gov. Mule in the late 90s. I still like mr. Blue skies, Duane allman was way before my time. A lot of great musician's died at a young age and would have made a lot more great music. I don't trust those small airplanes! I know Duane died in a motorcycle crash.
That’s music folks! I don’t care what your favorite genre is..... this here has it all! Only thing I would add to the group is Robert Randolph on the regular! I would call it Tedeschi Trucks Randolph and The Family Band! Get Down!!!

I keep trying to figure out which I like best, Susan's voice or Derek's guitar playing? Gonna stop, 'cuz it's a stupid question. They are both beyond catagory.
I love how it looks like Derek is playing his solo for his wife.
I love Sonny, but hard to argue with Derek's slide playing.
My 72nd birthday My favorite music ! Rock on🥰
They rocked the St Pete Sunshine Blues Festival.
Yes they did.
TTB GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS!! #RedheadDeadhead
Derek is a mind blower...
Absolutely one-of-a-kind!!
GOAT in my humble opinion.
Great band! Luv their sound! Am so glad to find a band who still plays blues! With a touch of the ALLman Brothers Band thrown in! 🇺🇸😎😎😎🤘🤘🤘🍀🍀🍀
That was the most amazing live performances I've ever watched. Such beautiful people!
You don't see anybody trying to play and sound like big Derrick he's the boss
Just can't get ENOUGH listening time. So enjoy their music and talents. Thanks TTB
Derek friggin' Trucks
What a great band . Nice bottleneck playing and not a plectrum in sight . Those vocals! .Bonnie Raite with more balls .Two drummers , beautiful backing vocals .When are they touring Australia next ?
This is EXACTLY why I think 99% of ALL bands need two drummers.
nice seeing Derek with a LP!
Wish I could post a reel time. Actually! Hold on. Good vibes
I love the trumpet player's jacket at 6:55. It has Jimi Hendrix on it.
as many times as I have watched this, I thought it was sweat until your mentioned it
sabre5x same. I’ve probably watched this over 10 times through the years and have always thought it was sweat too
That’s music folks! I don’t care what your favorite genre is..... this here has it all! Only thing I would add to the group is Robert Randolph on the regular! I would call it Tedeschi Trucks Randolph and The Family Band! Get Down!!!
