I didn’t the like the purple hammer as much as I thought I would hooked like crazy for me and just didn’t match up with it very well but thinking of getting a IQ tour 78 u
Bowling lefty: yes I love it and use it often. Bowling righty: only came out on the rare sport or challenge shot but when I needed it it was absolutely needed.
I love them. Just like most all variants of bowling balls, Urethane has a place, but it is also dual-purpose: Spare Ball or Strike Ball. Yes, I know there are people that use their Strike Ball as their Spare Ball, but Urethane is easier to control, at least for me, as a spare ball and it doesn't take up an extra space like a true Plastic Spare Ball, so I can still have a 6-Ball Tournament Bag or a 3-Ball League Bag without sacrificing. As Jungo said a few years ago, it is a Spare Ball 99.9% of the time in League, but occasionally if the oil is off, I now have a 3rd option.
Purple hammer, black hammer, pink hammer, red hammer, attitude control, headhunter, LOVE the urethane. Love the LED and LED 3.0 cores as well as the vintage fab hammer light bulbs.
Awesome video Jimoo! I love urethane since that's what I used in my early years. That Hammer NU Blue is just a fantastic ball for me on the left side. Thanks JR Pro Shop for this review.
I love my purple pearl hammer. Smooth, controllable and hooks a lot. My pink hammer can hook less than my purple but I try to use it much straighter with minimal hook. I had the FAB 1986 black and the FAB red hammer’s first entries into urethane.
I started bowling in the days of the Black Beauty, Black Knight, Gyro, and the U-Dot. My first HP balls were the Faball Blue Hammer and Faball Blue Pearl Hammer. Those Hammers are still in my urethane bag, along with a Black Widow Purple Pearl Urethane, and am getting the Black Pearl Urethane Hammer. Do I love urethane? Absolutely.
Urethane is great. I have the Pitch black, Purple, and IQ 78. My NU hooks so much on the back, I don't put it with the urethanes. I think bowlers are missing out by not putting PLASTIC in with urethane. I'm only a board or two right with plastic than my IQ78 on some house shots. On cliffed lanes, the plastic blends the wet/dry better than urethane. My C300 White Dot has more of the shape of the purple but doesn't push me 5-7 boards in and I can play straight up the boards and score better.
A couple of good things about the Black Pearl Urethane. First, the hardness of the Black Pearl Urethane is the nearly the same as the old school Faball Blue Hammer (it came in at 77D), so those who grew up with those in the late 80s and early 90s will feel comfortable with that ball, and know how to use it. Second, With a bit of surface, you can make this ball still react like the Purple Hammer. If you took the Black Pearl down to say, 360, you'll get that similar shape with the Purple.
As a very high rev player, I love urethane! I feel those over/under conditions more than the average person so I love something I can hammer on (pun intended) and still have that controllable motion downlane
Jimoo I love urethane too! My coach is Ron Hoppe and he's insisting I use Storm and I do like the Pitch Black but I took it down to 500 surface so it would read earlier
Love my Nu Blu. It rolls long, and then swoops into the 1-3 pocket with devastating power. I stand on the 25 board, aim for the 3-4 board area about 40 feet down the lane. I hadn't shot a 700 series in 6 years but with the Nu Blu I've had 4 of them in the last couple of months. When the lane conditions suck, I switch to a Brunswick Rhino for a smoother down-lane reaction and a bit better control.
Just got myself an IQ 78-U a week ago, and I can safely say that it compliments my Purple Hammers incredibly well. Just drill the 78-U to hook sooner, but hook less overall. (I’m a Lefty 2 Hander Btw)
itll be another 4-5 years before i have a chance forthe PBA tour, so I'm gonna enjoy this Roto Grip Grenade Blue I just picked up LOL. Great Video tho!!!
I currently have a Black Hammer 78D, Fast Pitch and Pathogen Plague Solid. The Fast Pitch is about a 3/2, and I'd put the Pathogen Plague solid in the same spot as the IQ. I'd love to see how the current Motiv Yellow MCP ball fits into this chart as well.
I used to have the old Blue hammer in the early 90s. After watching your vid, I think the Storm Pitch Black is very similar to the old Hammer. What do you think? Great video!!
Thank you so much for this video! I have one issue though. When you go to Motiv's website, it says the Tank Rampage's coverstock is MCP. That means it's microcell polymer right and not a true urethane right?
You guys do a great job on your videos! I bought a NU Blue and it hooks as much as my Phaze V. I’m really looking for something on the burn. Would you recommend the Xponet pearl or something else?
I am new to urethane, i just received my Hammer Black Pearl. This ball just goes dead straight, it rolls as soon as it hits the lane. Im able to shape it, not that it is a lot, but reminds me of being 12 years old in jr's
It would've been nice if you had a Hot Cell. To put in perspective on your graph. It was a really good video.. To me urethane is the only way to go on a cliff house shot with a ton of friction.
I think the 78U is the most straightforward answer regarding urethane that Ive seen. it loves rev rate, HATES speed. hence why people like Kyle Sherman and bj Moore can throw it but simos looks a bit meh most the time
Don’t “own” a true urethane, but I do have the NU hammer and that thing is amazing!! It’s been first ball out of the bag at league and last one in the bag lol! My other balls have been collecting dust 😂
The Motiv Tank Rampage Pearl is also NOT urethane. It’s microcell polymer, also technically reactive resin along with the Blue NU. Motiv has always said that MCP is not urethane. Now that we have that out of the way, I absolutely love urethane.
I started two handing around 10ish years ago when majority of people were still 1 handing and I was usually the only two handed leftie at any tournament.. I’ve stopped bowling ever since but it’s really fun to come back and see that all the old farts are still complaining about two handers.. it’s just as toxic as when I left lmao ❤️
I'm looking for a non-reactive ball with a lot of hook. I don't like the fact that reactive balls have to be 'maintained' and don't last long, so I guess urethane is the way to go. Is the Black pearl my best choice?
@jrproshop No urethane yet. Looking to add. Qualified for first Jr Gold. I bowl 2 handed. 18.5 mph, 570 revs. Currently have Gem, TNT Infused, Stealth, BW Ghost Pearl, Ocean Vibe, Spare. Which one in your opinion should I look at? Was thinking the Black Pearl or Purple. Thank you.
Wish I still had some of those old Champion balls. I loved their reactive stuff, the Ultimate Weapon reactive and the Warhawk solid in particular were great balls for me. Never like the urethane UW, but half the house I bowled league in had one.
Let's see I have the faball blue hammer urethane with blue pin and white logos , faball blue pearl hammer urethane, the ebi overseas magenta urethane hammer, the Columbia 300 blue urethane beast, the overseas red pearl urethane hammer asymmetric, the black widow urethane solid , the 2021-2022 green pin purple pearl hammer urethane, motiv blue tank , tank rampage urethane with high flare layout and shiny. So yes I love urethane or urethane like balls . And plus I am a speed dominant lefty up the boards low revs but I use my elbow and wrist to make up for the low rev rate.
the whole urethane hardness thing is stupid, everything has gone full circle, when reactive were introduced, "ball is illegal", "it's not fair because it hooks too much" etc, etc. butters and the purple hammer comes along and he is playing it off the gutter, "ball hooks too much because its too soft" etc etc. Hammer Effect comes out "hold my beer", lol, i started out when the LT-48 was popular, i think that the majority of the people that are complaining are those who can't throw urethane because they are house hacks that rely on house shots to make them better than they really are. just like the 2 hand haters ,it its so easy, then prove it, if you can avg 200+ 1 handed then , you could be averaging 220+ two handed guaranteed, then you can join the PBA, then after your first title you can say during the interview, "i told everyone 2-handed is cheating, i proved my point and i am going back to being a subpar 1 hander because i have integrity", you could also use urethane to double prove your point🤣🤣🤣.
Everything you just said is cheating anyone is allowed and able to do. Therefore technically nobody has a disadvantage.. if anyone can do it. I personally think 1 or 2 handed bowling is up to the bowler, and it doesn’t matter which one your play style is
@@logantincher7151 cheating? honestly your first sentence does not make sense. throwing urethane is not cheating or 1 or 2 hand bowling for that matter, i bowl 1 and 2 handed lefty, and 1 handed righty, i am saying the USBC is Full of shit for them to ban a ball after it's success and other balls that had been already approved , especially during a major tournament where people from all over the world traveled to. But back to the urethane question, it don't matter what kind of ball you use, you have to be able to keep it near the pocket and pick up spares to bowl well.
@haynlavaboy The whole "urethane wrecks patterns" crap is something I despise. I've proved it to multiple house-hacks how it doesn't. It's called "stop being one dimensional and learn to play multiple shots and angles!" Someone in front of me using urethane? I play right on top of their line. They're just feeding oil to the pocket so my reactive never loses energy. Old professional bowlers used to do that during warm up to keep their chances of striking higher.
@@bzerk1 Plus the UC3 isn't really considered true urethane٫ it's more of a cross between urethane and reactive because the UC3 is part urethane part reactive
Cant stand urethane in league...it only takes one person throwing it to absolutely destroy a shot. I grew up using it but times have changed, I cant say how many league nights I left angry because someone was throwing that garbage. If two people are throwing it, you may as well go home after game 1. You will not get a consistent ball reaction the rest of the night...UNLESS you have one as well.
