Roy also got shot in his leg shielding children from random gun fire in his grandmother's neighborhood. He was a great character guy. That's why he was able to turn Portland around.

You missed one very important part of the blazers bad luck. Having the soviets keep Sabonis from playing with the blazers til he was old. If the blazers got sabonis when they drafted him, the blazers would have had PRIME SABONIS on the early 90's blazers teams that already went to the finals twice. The 90's could have easily been blazers era. Awful luck.

    • @batonrougehistoryclass5194

From what we saw i think he could have been a top 5 center all time, he tore both of his Achilles by the time he came to the nba and he still was great for the blazers. Kobe ruptured one of his and his career was over. Its the worst injury and after having it twice he was still great. I dont want to imagine a prime sabonis

Brandon Roy's injuries and eventual early retirement is truly one of the greatest tragedies in NBA history. It makes me so sad that we never got to see just how great he would have become without his injuries. He very well could have ended up as the best or close to the best player in the league, but unfortunately we'll never know just how good prime B Roy would have been. If he stayed healthy my guess would be that by year 7 or 8 he would have developed into an MVP level player that averaged around 28 to 30ppg and 6apg on an insanely efficient 50% from the field, while competing for titles with Kobe, LeBron and the Spurs.

That's what happens when you rely on your athleticism too much and not learn fundamentals and learn to shot with arms not legs 60% of the time cuz how good Penny, Hill and Rose was they was very explosive going to the rim which puts lots of stress on your legs over years. Roy was fundamentally sounded but he had arthritis in his knees since high school it got worse over the years and it caught up to him when he got to the NBA, just lucky to see him tear it up for the 5 years he was playing.

I was working at a local TV station when the announcement was made his career was essentially over. I distinctly remember the team quietly asked the media to not specify just how bad his injuries were as he was such a nice guy and popular in the community. They wanted to give him some chance, some hope, and we complied. Point being, the list of issues we heard were even worse than reported. He not only had no cartilage, he was on the verge of needing double microfracture surgery, even breaking bones just by jumping.

Really wish he never got injured, that team with aldridge could've had some more competitive years especially if oden also didn't have massive injury problems.

He was bad ass I remember going to Garfield games, sucks what happened to him injuries suck wish there was a fix so he could’ve kept playing.

Roy and Oden stayed healthy with LMA the Blazers would have been dynasty lasting at least a decade, winning 2, 3, 4 or more rings, reaching their most dominant level when they all simultaneously reached their primes. It's scary to think about how good they would have been considering the fact they were 52-10 when all playing together as young 1st/2nd to 3rd/4th year players, imagine how good they would have been a few years latter as they all continue to get better and better.

  • @Sunsn7

In 2010 Kobe was asked who was harder to guard, Kevin Durant or Brandon Roy. Kobe's response: "Roy. 365 days. 7 days a week. Roy has no weaknesses in his game." Now we know KD was in only his 2nd season in 2010 but that is very lofty praise from one of the greatest, fiercest competitors in the game. Basketball fans have missed out and basketball history is missing some special moments because of the injuries to Brandon Roy, Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, Amare Stoudemire.
Suns coach Monty Williams compares Devin Booker to him. Quite a compliment..and one that is well deserved!

Do you expect a negative Nancy to say something positive? Apparently worst luck in history means you only won one championship, and have made the playoffs in 75% of the 50 years the franchise has existed, picked multiple stars out of the draft. Teams with no championships, far less playoff appearances and consistently shitty rosters are far more lucky.
This is the problem with TH-cam, any dipshit can start making videos and get views by piggybacking off of brands, trademarks, copyright, ect. Doesn't matter if you're a genius or a complete imbecile.

Imagine the damage the Blazers would have done if Brandon Roy, Greg Oden were healthy, alongside LaMarcus Aldridge. They could have been successful as the Thunder were with Durant, Westbrook, and company.

    • @LunaticTheCat
      @LunaticTheCat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

In games when all three of them played, the Blazers were 52-10. If healthy they probably would have had a decade long dynasty with at least 2 or more championships. When Roy, Aldridge and Oden went 52-10 together Oden was only a 1st/2nd year player and LMA and B Roy were only 3rd/4th year players. If they all stayed healthy they probably would have had an entire decade of dominance with three or more rings. An elite version of B Roy in his prime (which I believe would have been comparable to Kobe), combined with prime Oden (prime Oden would have been one of the best bigs in league history), and prime LMA (we know how good LMA was in his prime) would have made them one of the most dominant teams in league history.

Roy's jumpshot was a thing of beauty... His form was great, and he had the perfect follow-through, with his wrist snapping each time. Maybe Dale Ellis and Ray Allen have better looking shots than Roy, but that doesn't mean anything negative. I wish Roy could've been on the Supes'

Lol Kobe said that Roy had no weaknesses in his game , and that's EXACTLY what I think of KD (offensively speaking). 0 weaknesses. Can shoot the pill, he can dribble like a guard, he can go inside, and everything in between. It's actually pretty amazing that a 7 footer can do that (i know he's listed at 6' 9 but lol let's be honest, that nigga 7 feet 💀)
