The Dune 2 is again released at the buchered format…. Do the streaming Services pay the studio so much to make blu ray version worse? What are they thinking?
I speculate that they won't release a IMAX-set before Dune Part 3 is finished and done in theatres. Reason? They can make people visit the cinemas for the earlier parts and potentially in IMAX. I guess IMAX themselves would wish for that. I guess that a box-set complete in IMAX aspect ratio would have been rad.
The problem of not releasing the full aspect ratio is that one loses much of the effort being made for it to happen. Having the opportunity to change the aspect ratio is huge for anyone enjoying movies. Eventually this becomes lost media, and that would be beyond sad if happens.
also, the full IMAX ratio is the way denis intended for it to be seen. If you deprive home viewers of that it's ridiculous. It's like 30% more image in each frame
7:03 - this shot of the ship firing missiles looks so much better in the IMAX :( why didnt they release the full version online :( it really sucks not seeing 30% of the original footage
Denis does not like the idea of releasing extended cuts or deleted scenes, yet he is okay with IMAX and standard versions coexisting. If its the matter of only one version/vision, then IMAX looks way more different than standard ratio. I'm not against IMAX or standart ratio, I think his opinions are conflicting
Yeah, one of the reasons I also revisited this after losing it is because it's unlikely we'll get the 1.43:1 aspect ratio for home video release because that would be very rare, unless MAX released it in the full aspect ratio. So I put this together just in case.
I hope that WB take a look at this superb TH-cam channel and, above all, read the unanimous comments... WB : Get out the bluray of the Dune films in 1.78 ratio, PLEASE!!
This almost hurts too much... I will not deny you the view because what you did with part 1 really opened my eyes but missing a third of my favourite movie man that hurts
Do you remember "Paul's goggles problem" with the worm ride scene? I just rewatched the film and IT'S NOT AN ERROR! During the first scene where the fremens attack a Harkonnen harvester Paul's and Chani's goggles were with the lens down and suddenly the lens disappear! The mechanism was shown there, in this exact scene. The scene is so astonishing that we didn't notice!
For anyone wondering, it is exactly when Paul and Chani are running after crossing under the harvester. Before trying to hit a ornithopter by a missile.
I was aware of the lens removal in the harvester attack didn’t notice when the goggles cover his face in the sand riding scene, so I’m guessing they come on “off-screen.”
Dude this looks amazing definitely gonna watch the next one in IMAX it truly more immersive shows so much more! Great good! And keep it up thanks for a pt2!!!
Great work on the video! It is fun to dream about being able to see that version of both Dunes on demand. I still cannot wait to see it release on Blu-Ray. It showcases that scale so much more than the "standard" ratio.
I am deeply hopeful they do this for both. I would preorder a two-part box set right this second, if they confirmed it was coming with IMAX enhanced ratios for home. Fantastic work, as always, and thank you for taking up the project again, despite the crushing blow of losing so much work.
Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words. I'm happy it has been well received. In the end it was worthwhile, because if we don't get an IMAX ratio release any time soon, at least we'll have examples like these efforts for the time being.
Awesome video. I will use this as a reference when I explain the importance of aspect ratio. I can’t believe I have never seen part one in IMAX. I have the home theater for it and will immediately buy the IMAX version upon release. I first watched DP2 in XD with the DBOX moving seats (no 4D effects). It was super fun and we all enjoyed the experience. Then I saw it in the smaller aspect ratio (L)IMAX. And holy cow this blew me away. The entire film being shot like this was astonishing. I could not believe the difference IMAX made. This weekend I’m seeing full IMAX on one of the 12 film versions in the world! Might have to add the dual laser IMAX to my list!
Very kind of you to say, thank you! There's still no actual official word on a release yet so we really need to show that we want an IMAX video release and the only way to do this is to tag IMAX, on social media with videos/examples of the IMAX like these.
Hey great work. And Yes please, Dune 1&2 are the very best of a few movies that deserves to be seen in IMAX aspect. Any crop is just injustice to the art.
I would easily buy an IMAX aspect ratio release of both Dune I & II (box set). And of course would also like the two films seamlessly edited together with extra footage version as well.
I don't think we're supposed to be overly focused on the very top & bottom of Imax 1.4:1, these areas are for immersion. But I still don't understand why the home media released are not 1.9:1.
No one i know irl knows even the simple fact that IMAX is a larger aspect ratio. IMAX marketing team has slept on it. It is such an easy thing to compare the two when you have the source material. This guy has put it together the hard way. It's outrageous. At this point they're basically holding 40% of the screen hostage. Why?

This truly saddens me because we basically lost a huge part of the movie. And it's almost criminal that garbage movies like justice league are released in full frame and dune isn't. I really hope we get a 1.90 ratio with part two
I don't want adapted products if the original aspect ratio isn't preserved somewhere. Release IMAX for home use - I use a computer monitor for most of my content I watch, so aspect ratios matter less than full imagery if that's the intended view by the creators.

I would buy the blu ray a second time if it came with the full IMAX image. Right now there's black bars on top and bottom of the cropped frame. I'd rather have black bars on the side of the full image! Or at least crop it to only 16:9 like Nolan's IMAX shots on his Blu Ray releases.
Yep, I'm not buying part 1 or 2 until it's released in full IMAX aspect ratio. You're losing like 30% of each frame of the film otherwise! It would be silly to pay for only 66% of a movie
This one was one of the toughest frames to recreate. I used several trailers, still photos and digital rain to get it right, while being careful not to change anything. My dream one day is to compare the efforts I made with the ACTUAL IMAX footage as it was made. But if not, this will be the best we have of it unless they show it in cinemas again of course.

3:17 Such a beautiful aspect ratio man....
@@secretsofdune I REALLY appreciate your passion towards this brother. The efforts are completely visible
Thank you @@ManOfCinema-
I want DUNE in home video IMAX
Take all of my money!!!
