    It works as they say. It is a very compact set up. Had mine for years & it still does the job well enough for that roadside coffee when motorcycle touring.

    I used 3 pieces of coal on edge side by side covered in a little bit of fire gel it boils and cooks for about 2 hrs hot. Then just keep placing small twigs on top of the coal and they will ignite instantly and burn for at least another hr there as well. I've used it too cook trout and bacon and eggs in an 8 inch skillet easily aside from coffee and hot cocoa.

      This is great, as I come from a place where getting refills can be difficult, and butane cans are not refillable and quite expensive... The possibility of using coal, or helping the solid fuel with coal and twigs without damaging the cookset is a relief

    Well thought-out cookset for the great outdoors. Definitely going to purchase.

    Thanks for such a great review. I was looking these up on Bass Pro Shops and it looks like it gets the job done.

    I enjoyed your video it was short, informative and you camera work was pretty good too. I was looking for a portable stove for one of my nieces and her mom. Thanks for the review.

    You can also lay the tablets on edge or stand vertically to bring thecflame closer to the pot for a true boil. That or add twigs as mentioned or stack two fuel cubes in. Not ideal forcfuel use but it works
    I usethe Esbit titanium folding stove with a Vargo folding windscreen and a Trangia mess tin with a handle. All nests together andgets to a full boil in 8mins one tablet for 2 cups of water.

    I had been using the old collapsible Esbit stove and purchased one of these. What an improvement and what design. Its neat and works great. If one makes a windscreen it will boil water in under 10 minutes (1 tab). You really had it way out in the open. Oh well. This set up weighs less than my titainum pot and Pocket Rocket. Pretty neat. And what I like about it when I backpack is that I don't have to worry about warming up the butane can when at elevation.

      Hey Dave, Thanks for watching. Yes, setting it up, out of the wind definitely helps. I really like the fact that is so compact...perfect for a solo trek for sure!

    I love my debit as I Placed a small can where you put the debits. It makes it closer to the pot and helps it boil faster. I also created a wind screen out of heavy duty tin foil. It's not pretty but she does the job.

    Another idea is to buy firestsrter tabs from Dollar General(woody looking) which work real good. In fact i use these in place of Esbit tabs now. Got the idea off another vid where he compared them to Esbit.

    My impression is that the burner/pot stand is too tall! The flame is too far from the pot and that's what reduces efficiency. I would probably find a way to bring the flame closer to the bottom of the pot.
    Also, you can increase the efficiency of these stoves/burners (both the classic Esbit and this one) by feeding a few twigs into the stove, on top of the solid fuel tablets. - By the way, try using 2-3 tablets at the same time instead of just one.

    What kind of tablets are you using, I can get a rolling boil in the winter time with my esbit

    It will boil. I set the tabs on edge, seems to burn better. Also I use a windscreen

    It's a shame it didn't boil.. because I really liked the look of it.. saw one on amazon then checked out your video.. I wonder if you maybe used one of those foil wind guards around it on the floor and maybe shove two tablets in there it might have a bit more of a chance.. I noticed the breeze pushing the flame a little.. and gas stoves can take a long time when there is a light breeze.. great video very informative thankyou..

    i got one of these as a christmas gift, used it once and now it just sits in the gear bin. it's unfortunate because it's really well-made, it just doesn't work very well.

    The flame is to far from the pot, the bigger Esbit set works fine with 14g blocks. By the way there is a new Esbit stove with windshield and 27g fuel blocks. It’s not the mass of the cubes it’s the surface as bigger as more heat is generated.

    Try standing the fuel tablet on its side. That way you get a lot more heat out of them and the flame is closer to the pot.

    • @TheOneCanoe
      @TheOneCanoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a good idea. I also tried it with 2 fuel tabs and got a nice boil going.

    • @TheOneCanoe
      @TheOneCanoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the pot holds up to 16 ounces, that’s 2 cups.

  • @Black-March

    "Boiling" just means you're evaporating water because water can't be more than 100c. If you're boiling water you're wasting energy. And the actual liquid water you pour in to the oatmeal will be 100c regardless because any water over 100c becomes water vapor.

    • @TheOneCanoe
      @TheOneCanoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      And “boiling” means killing any harmful bacteria which is the important thing to consider when using unfiltered water.

    • @Black-March
      @Black-March ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheOneCanoe No it doesn't, the harmful bacteria die based on time and temperature at temperatures far below boiling level. 60c/140f for 3.5 minutes is enough to kill the harmful bacteria. At 70c/158f 99.999% of bacteria are dead within 1 minute according to WHO standards.
