- I purchased a replica POC Ventral helmet for USD16 on Lazada, and I was wondering how it would be compared to the original product?

The original POC should be the same price as the other helmet, same material and manufactured in the same country, cycling helmet as far to expensive for a piece of moulded plastic when you consider for the same cost the quality of motorcycle helmet you could buy, thanks for sharing
Hi! Thanks for your comment :) totally agree, bicycle helmets nowadays are overpriced. We buy the original to respect the intellectual property rights but only when they are on sale (up to 60% discount)... hopefully with more and more brands on the market offering well designed helmets the prices will get lower for a piece of equipment that is essential for safety!

@@username8644 thank you very much for your feedback. I agree in every point. I'm a designer and I admire POC's design and originality. I own 2 original POC Ventrals that luckily I was able to buy on sale for 50% of the price (full retail price is too much for my budget) I will personally won't wear any fake out of respect for the brand. This video was just intended to be a comparison to show the differences and concludes that although, again, I would NOT encourage to buy a counterfeit product, and the fake POC is clearly a subpar product, at least it is a cheap alternative safer than not wearing any helmet. I would hesitate to say they are the same materials. There are tests of those fake helmets and the foam/energy absorption layers are not the same. They don't work nearly as well. They don't slow down the impact nor dissipate the energy as well.

Let us see how the fake compares in a crash or test. Aesthetically it may look the same, but what about protection and structural integrity?
That is an excellent point, thank you! It will be very interesting to crash test them. I’m not a materials engineer but I know the polystyrene foam properties and structure don’t really change much from brand to brand. That’s why the latest advancements in crash protection like MIPS focus on elements that dissipate the impact energy rotating. Thanks for your comment 🙏🏻😊

Informative and interesting how well you rated the fake helmet. I wonder how well the fake would do in an impact crash? As a suggestion for a future video I would like to see what bike shops the road biking community( in Chang Mai) goes to for bike purchases, repairs, supplies, and parts.

Have you considered measuring the inside circumference of the helmets? A lot of cost savings comes from the manufacturer making only size L and then passing them off as size M and S.
A related note: Where would you buy replacement helmets in Chiang Mai, knowing that there are a lot of replica products floating around?
Hi! Thanks, the real POC helmet is sold in S, M and L sizes, while the fake it's only L i believe. Probably why the ergonomics are clearly off...
Normally the price will tell you, if it's too cheap it's fake. I haven't seen any real POC Ventral in Thailand under THB 9,000+. My recommendation for decent helmets in Thailand is MET or Limar, both brands with good models around THB 2,500.

Just checked on Lazada now, lots of fake road helmets (Kask, POC, HJC, MET…) but no mtb… i think it’s still not that popular in Thailand 🤔
Los cascos de esta marca de apariencia lindos son muy frágiles, ya q su material proviene de materia reciclada, por ejemplo, plástico, su aerodinámica es buena, pero su fortaleza después del primer golpe decae considerablemente. Estos caes traen un defecto en la 100 de la cabeza, quedan muy ajustados, SON HECHOS EN CHINA, asi que si calidad no es el todo segura.

I'm not doing the commercial for fake but I must tell you that I have fake POC helmet and I was saved twice and once in hard direct Impact to hard metal net on road protect section. Next time I saw the impact point was a little damaged but not to much... Now I bought another 😊 and it's the same one from video 😊 reason why I didn't bought original is because off slim fit and it is to tight on my head. Now I saw that Rapha have the same POC wide fit and maybe I'll do the purchase. I will see...

The helmet is just as safe as te original. The reality is that every original product made in china is prone to be replicated with the same tech and know how. They save cost on quality control.
