    I grew up right by the Ave H station. It was not a “rich” neighborhood in the 80s/90s. Regular middle class families, my parents were teachers. Now the houses are worth a lot more but a lot of the owners have been there for 30-40 years.

    • @ariez84
      @ariez84 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Ave H station was a drug den back in the 90s. Certainly did not look like that. Got mugged 3 times in that tunnel.

    • @Crooklynmike
      @Crooklynmike 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Absolutely right. Funny but the last time I checked they were calling this Victorian Flatbush/Midwood but it's technically Flatbush. I've lived there for years and now that Brooklyn is so hot the developers are changing the names of the neighborhoods. The average cost is 1.6 million now but many of those are 1 family homes so they're not economically sound for what you can get a multi family for.

    • @RoseGold781
      @RoseGold781 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I grew up there too and never felt safe around Ave H station. It's interesting how these channels glamorize these areas. I never heard it being called Fiske Terrace.

    Fiske Terrace looks like the Forest Hills Gardens of Brooklyn to me. At the end of the day, you have a short walk to the subway and a short commute to a major part of Manhattan. If I hop on at 71st ave, I'm at Times Square in 20 minutes, and at Avenue Q, it would probably take 20 minutes to get to Chinatown. Neighborhoods like this are what impress me the most about NYC. The clash of the city and the suburbs. They're absolutely gorgeous

    One of Brooklyn's best kept secrets. The closest nightlife scene, though, is Cortelyou Rd, which is two subway stops away Manhattan bound on the H train. Getting to lower Manhattan is about half an hour, and getting to more happening parts of Brooklyn takes even longer. But Midwood is a fantastic area. Great find, guys!

We believed it was older than that though, it had hand hewn beams with arrows and notches carved into them, as well as knob & tube wiring and plaster walls & ceilings. It also had a 3 carriage barn in the back yard with stalls for horses and accommodations for a stable boy upstairs. FLY NAVY!!!

    Beautiful neighborhood. Reminds me of the Pelham gardens section of the Bronx. Super lush and elegant homes/mansions.

    I live not far from Fiske Terrace and Ave H train station was redone not too long ago. Also Newkirk Plaza train station is close by and people walk there to catch the express train

    In Manhattan, W. 69th St. Between Broadway and Central Park West, is the place to take kids trick or treating : ) The street is blocked off, and even adults come costumed. St Stephens church often has refreshments, and there are designated brownstones with treats and scary decorations.

      Yes, the Park Hill neighborhood off of Rumsey Road in Yonkers has historic Victorians. The west side there was bustling area in the 1800s. Lots of NYC cops lived there, a few paved roads, lots of farmland

    The houses on Beverly road west of the Beverly Road Q train station in Brooklyn are way better! Specifically when you walk down on Albemarle Road. In fact there is a known Colonial style home that is "haunted" located right on the corner of Albemarle RD & Argyle Rd. You can't miss the big columns built on the front of the home. That building had a dark history and the neighbors described the owner as being strange. The house from the side resembles the famous Amityville home, however, it's the other attic window to the left that is shaped like a human "eye" that everyone from the neighborhood talks about. I haven't been there since 2018 but at the time the building was in serious need of repair due to neglect. You should do a video on this once beautiful landmark!

      ya and the last owner always had a big box truck on the driveway. Yet never worked on his own house. Was like that even back in the 90s. Maybe he was in the landscaping business or something.

      Actually one of the reasons the prices are high is because their property taxes are pretty low. NYC house taxes in general is probably close to 1/2 of what they would be for an equivalent-priced home in surrounding states.

    YES. Okay I always thought it was just me with that feeling from looking at a lot of North American Victorian homes. I'm from Montreal where our victorian architecture was a little more stone oriented and grand, but I lived in Toronto for a while and the city is famous for its Bay and Gable Victorian homes in the inner city. A lot of them are beautiful, but others, even some of the massive wealthy ones, gave me the MAJOR creeps and always have and I never knew why lol.
