      Realize that most likely the trash was from a boater and it floated up on the beach. Even in very remote locations (coastal parks in USA) you can find lots of beach trash that floated in from the ocean. At least Fuji hotel grounds keepers will be out there cleaning it up so visitors only see a fraction of the trash.

      I was travelling for work, so I had to bring my Canon kit! I've travelled to Argentina before for a personal trip and only brought 1 Sony A7s body with me for vlogging + photos and it was so wonderfully light :D

  • @rhonaldjr
    @rhonaldjr 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for sharing tips on travel photography.
    I am not a pro (making living out of photography), but I do take my gears where I go (they are huge). When I travel to place where I have to live in hotels, I tend to keep things to the minimum. Perhaps a 85mm f/1.4 with 28-300mm f/4 and 24-70mm along with camera + battery + wires + cards + remote trigger and basic filters. They all easily fit into my PeakDesign 20L bag. Tripod goes checked-in.
    Recently I bought Fujifilm X-T2 which I thought it will be useful when traveling with my family. It's extremely compact since I haven't invested heavily into it yet (have heavily invested into canon) and I intend to keep it that way (except perhaps a 55mm portrait lens - at some point).
    Yes, the less gear, the better safety (for the gears) and your back.
    Got few tips from your videos. Great work.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Ah I totally agree with you to keep your kit as light and minimal as possible when travelling. In this instance, I was travelling for work so I had to bring my heavy kit. But I went on a personal trip to Argentina last year and all I brought with me was my Sony A7s mki + 28mm lens to vlog + take photos on and it was so freeing and wonderfully light to only have that with me!

    Thank you! How do you go about location scouting before you get to your destination? I was wondering this on your Poland shoot video because you'd organised a model, but didn't mention how you found the locations you took the model to shoot in.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I try to put some time aside to location scout before the shoot happens, so for the wedding we arrived a couple of days earlier (mostly to photograph other events that were happening before the actual wedding), but we made sure to spend some time looking for locations so we were prepared. Then in Poland, we were location scouting the second we arrived the morning before a photoshoot that afternoon!

    @wy4553 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Julia, can you talk more about the practicalities of carrying your camera/tripod/other gear with you while you're on a trip? Travelling with a DSLR can already be pretty clunky (nevermind things like tripods!), so how do you make sure your gear is easily accessible without impeding you when you're walking, hiking, or even from enjoying your vacation in general? In places like the beach, how do you make sure your camera is safe/supervised if you want to take a quick dip or even just to lie down and shut your eyes for a while? Especially in cases where your hotel isn't close by and you don't have enough time to go back to the same location twice (ex. once to purely enjoy the place, and a second time for a photography session). Thanks!

    Hey Julia , I Think its a Lovely Shoot.
    The First Photo Data says F1.4
    The F1.4 is Dof is Very Shallow
    In the Photo Everything is Very Sharp from Front to Back .
    Can You Say How ?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everything is sharp because I have nothing in the foreground of the photo. Since everything is at the same distance away, there is no depth of field!

    Thank you for your videos!

    Great Julia photos! My dream is to travel across the 5 continents taking a picture of everything, meeting incredible places haha. I loved the backpack the way she organizes the equipment she is very cool. For me photos of premarriage or marriage are the most difficult, of course when you have the experience in this area everything is more relaxed, but the responsibility is very great because I believe that it is the only moment for the couple that everything has to leave perfect and very well planned, I see in my country (Brazil), that many people tend to perform this work with only input devices, for example T5i with 18-55 without camera reserve or any type of lighting (Led flash). of course not generalizing, because here many photographers are excellent and only do this type of work. When he showed all his equipment I wondered if all this would have insurance, after all as he said traveling abroad to enjoy or work with everything that one has has a great risk in damaging them. I think it is very relative, it is a choice, for example I would do a job for a company only with the payment of travel and lodging, but only if it is to acquire a portfolio and if it is starting in this branch, but this is because I would love to meet the world would be something incredible. there are many youtuber photographers who work this way with marketing for the company whether it is traveling or hotel for example, but for jobs like what you did in 100% of what you said. When I saw that plastic in the back of the scene I confess that I was annoyed at how people do not have the least respect for the environment and see you cleaning it, you just made me admire it and love it even more. These are one of my favorite videos. I love you.
    obs: excuse me if you have something wrong, english is not my language

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! First of all, your english is perfect so no need to apologise :) I couldn't agree more! Wedding photography is a lot of pressure because things only happen once and you don't really have the chance to redo things most of the time. Luckily you get better the more you practice, you know what to expect and what's expected of you to be able to capture those moments! Yep, my equipment is all insured, just in case. You never know what could happen! And yes again I agree! It's definitely a choice whether or not you want to shoot something in exchange for just travel and accommodation, I just wanted to point out that it doesn't always have to be this way - you can also charge your photographer's fee too to make it viable! Thank you for your wonderful comment :)

    • @sasa21eterna
      @sasa21eterna 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Julia Trotti Thank you for your time in answering me. never imaginary your equipment without insurance, there is your life (at least it's mine), sure independent photography of the event and place should be charged according to what the photographer finds just for his work :). surely you have an incredible and beautiful talent never stop practicing and show us all of it. You're so nice and humble and inspire me with every video, even though it's not exactly my focus, but I always shoot something better from it. Thanks again for sharing.

    Why don’t you use a camera strap ? And would you recommandeer a 5DIV or a 5DIII ? I have a 5DIII, still happy with it but wanting to upgrade

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly feel like a camera strap is more of a hinderance sometimes, especially while travelling. I'm constantly putting my camera down, passing it back and forth with Dan, etc, so I feel like there's more chance the strap will get caught on something (bag, table/chair leg, etc) and fall out of my hands that way haha. I haven't tried the 5Div yet, but I will be making some videos about it as soon as I do!

    • @wanneske1969
      @wanneske1969 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm the only one who uses my camera :-). Sometimes I use 2 cameras and have each of them hanging on one shoulder with the Canon strap (no blackrapid etc).

    Always a pleasure watching your videos. Please note Julia that everything you say is so helpful. I have been soooo eager for wedding destination shooting and now with this video I definitely want to shoot for travel agencies/resorts. Once you said "don't sell yourself short" it put me in check. I have a random question for you. When I travel with my gear my bag is heeeavy. How much does your travel camera bag gear weigh?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! That makes me so happy to hear 💛 My carry on is always heavy with my camera gear - I think this time around it weighed about 15kg which luckily they didn't check. If they do I just let them know I have camera equipment and my laptop in there, and that when I get on the plane I can take my laptop out and it will be a lot lighter and they let me through :D I haven't had any issues so far luckily!

    So you took most of these photos wide open? Whenever I use 1.4 on my 50mm it’s VERY narrow but you’re getting your subjects completely in focus with some background? Does it change with the lens?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a little more give with the 35 at wide open compared to the 50! We were also taking lots of photos where the subject was right where the background was. So if you don't put space between your subject and the background, then you don't really get that bokeh look!

  • @flawlesspixelsphotography883
    @flawlesspixelsphotography883 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Julia love your work , I’ve just started in photography, and I just wondered you always shoot in 100 ISO and a F1.4 do you ever alter these or do you just adjust the shutter speed using the light meter ? Xxx

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I like shooting at a shallow depth of field, so I usually leave my camera around 1.4 - 2.8 depending on what I'm working on. I bring up my ISO when there isn't enough light, eg indoors or after sunset!

  • @Ranblv
    @Ranblv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    a lot of the first shots were at 1/5000 why so fast? you were walking slowly. does it help to darken the highlights?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like to shoot with a wide aperture, as that usually help soften the light a little. So I use a high shutter to expose the image correctly :)

    That Incase backpack. I think the universe is trying to tell me something lol. Two months ago, I bought a camera bag from Amazon - a bag that I've been incredibly satisfied with except for how it doesn't have a "quick access" zipper for me to quickly grab my camera. I have to take it off my back, lay it out, unzip the shell, etc. Just this morning, Amazon sent me a recommended item - the same incase camera bag you're using - and now I'm seeing it on your video LOL. If I'm not mistaken, the backpack has a "quick access" zipper located on the top of the bag? I also like how the camera storage is literally on your back - helps protect the "goods."

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha the backpack is following you around! And yes this does have a quick access zipper right at the top. I personally have never used it to be honest, but if you put your camera body up there, then you could definitely easily grab it!

    Hey. Enjoying your vids. I’m from the central coast, NSW. Heading to Banff in jan and am stressing about weight of carry on. What are your experiences with weight of back packs? Any issues with overweight camera bags? Thanks in advance.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank so much! Honestly, traveling with enough camera equipment to photograph a wedding is always stressful, it's a mixture of trying to make your bag look lighter than it is and also being ready to argue your case if they're not happy with the weight. Unfortunately it's a bit of a grey area so I can't tell you for certain, luckily I haven't had too many troubles with my camera bag over the years, but I have had slightly argue my way to being able to take it with me on a couple of occasions since it does get pretty darn heavy!

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Canon 5DIII (and IV) has the advantage you can write the same pics to two different cards, both in RAW, I wouldn't want to miss that feature anymore, definitely not for 'important' shoots

    Hi again Julia! Sorry for the many silly questions uhm... with travel and portrait photos and your prime lens: is there a big big difference if I use a lens hood or not? :D Especially on golden hour and harsh sunlight (say on an afternoon at the beach or open area)? :D Thanks! Sorry for the many questions! Amazing videos and photos as always - more power to you and Dan! :D

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lens hood helps to get rid of lens flare if you shoot back lit - so it depends what you prefer :) I like to NOT use a lens hood as I like to capture lens flares in my personal photos!

      I usually wear black pants, nice boots (so I can walk around easily and concentrate on shooting if it's rainy and muddy) and a nice floral top which is also dark in colour. In Fiji I wore a black playsuit with florals on it since I probably would have died in pants considering how hot it was haha

      Use flash, find something to diffuse said flash too. My work place does lottery and the plastic rolls for the lottery paper work amazing it's a perfect, white / translucent/opaque cylinder that sits on top of my camera with the flash popped up, but even paper can work to diffuse the flash.

      Thank you! I agree with some of the responses you got here :D If you're using a flash, try using the white card to bounce the flash instead of directly pointing it at your subject, it's a bit of a nicer lighting look! Good luck!

    why do you have 2 35mm lenses?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The new one has lots of lens flares, so I took the old one in case I was taking pictures in harsh light situations.

    I just followed this channel, love it and subscribed it!! So as a Canon user, I have one question. Do you really shoot everything with the 35mm? Is it like your run and gun lens because I would like to purchase one for video/photo use. Appreciate your videos and keep making these awesome videos 👍👍👍

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yeah the 35mm is my go - I use it sooo much. I use other lenses when I'm after a different look, but the 35 is my favourite 👌
