    I agree with you, it is possible for the elect to be deceived. Looking back in semi-recent history, as well as further back and anciently, we have examples of people falling away.

    Another great video! I love your analogy with your children cleaning their room.
    I looked up the phrase “ if it were possible,” “if it is possible” came up and this is interesting:
    1. adjective [usually verb-link ADJECTIVE] A1
    If it is possible to do something, it can be done.
    If it is possible to find out where your brother is, we shall.
    In essence, If it is possible to be deceived, it can be done. People are proving it can be done every which way.
    Why would we need to pray for and seek discernment if deception was not a possibility? Why would we need to work hard to secure a testimony to withstand what’s coming if there was not potential for deception?
    When I read that phrase, “if it were possible” means to me, if I permit the possibility by not being diligent and firm in the faith… If I become complacent, curious and entertain ideas … I am helping to make deception possible.
    In my scripture study this morning Alma 30 : 6 there came a man into the land of Zarahemla, and he was Anti-Christ, for he began to preach unto the people against the prophesies which had been spoken by the prophets, concerning the coming of Christ.”
    It seems that it is Anti-Christ to preach against the Prophet.

      One small correction.. anti christ is anything that’s anti christ.. so included in that is people who preach against the prophet.. but that’s only because prophets teach us about Christ and His true Gospel that point us to Him.
      Notice, Korihor denied the prophecies from the prophets but it was in regards to Christ coming.
      Nehor was anti christ… but his tactics were very different from korihor. He taught a false gospel.

    Hi, caitlyn, I think you're spot on. All you need is to look at how the flock is being dispersed with the various Controversial topics of the world today. Members of the church who take a relaxed attitude towards the gospel, do not edify themselves with prayer in scripture, often fall away. Take as evidence of the inactives, compared to those who attend each week.

    I follow the prophet not because of whom the prophet is but because of the office he occupies. I made a covenant with God that I would obey the commandments and keep the covenants made in the Temple. My commitment to follow the prophet was made with God, not with pres Nelson. That’s why I pray God will strengthen the brethren so they can do whatever is needed and lead us in the way to Zion. Even I, with so little knowledge or wisdom, can see be saddened because of the way the world and the Saints are going, I can’t imagine the sadness the brethren feel. The way I see Matthew 24:24, the very elect won’t be deceived, however, I don’t think every single person who made covenants with God are “the very elect.”

    As a covenant maker and keeper, I can and have been deceived. But we are assured that the prophet will never be allowed to lead us astray. I wasn't raised in the church, but this verse has always given me the assurance that the prophet (ie the very elect) cannot, or will not be deceived. So, in this respect, the very elect cannot be deceived. I guess I never considered myself as the very elect, hence, I can be deceived. But I can look to those (prophets) who won't be. I hope I make sense.

    • @SegoLily
      @SegoLily 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Totally makes sense. But don't forget, Betty, that you have the gift of the Holy Ghost, and the right to have Him with you and guiding you at all times. And He cannot be deceived! Which is why, I think, President Nelson has said, "In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost."
      You're doing great. 😊

      I can see the confusion. So if you aren’t counting yourself as “the elect” but instead the prophets.. but we know that “the elect” are according to the covenant. That you can “choose to be chosen”.
      Just because the prophets won’t lead us astray doesn’t mean that they won’t be tempted.. we know that even Christ was tempted.. but He heeded them not.
      I think the key to not being deceived is to heed not the world, or Satan.. but rather stay close to Christ and His prophets both ancient and modern. 🥰
      You are awesome Betty!!! You are definitely an “elect lady” D&C 25!

    I think of “If it were possible” as “when it becomes a possibility”. Making covenants with Heavenly Father doesn’t take away our choices. We choose to stay close to the Spirit, or not. We choose to take our concerns to the Lord and be open to correction, or not. It is highly possible in our days of modern Korihors.

    We need to remember or know, if we didn’t already, that Satan wanted to literally take over God’s power. He wanted it from the beginning. That’s why he said he would do it, go down, and give him the honor. God’s power. Not just some of it. ALL of it! 2 Nephi 2 explains this well. And Alma 12. God knew Satans real intent all along. I loved how you talked about Korihor as an example. ❤

    I totally agree with you on all points! Satan is working hard on everyone! Are we not the elect that have made temple covenants? He wants to cause as much damage as he can before he is locked up. If we think that we won't/can't be led away ..we are wrong. Pride causes the spirit to withdraw, sin causes the spirit to withdraw, not repenting of our sins, not reading the scriptures, not attending our meetings, and being judgemental about the Lord's anointed.. the Spirit withdraws. Then we don't have the Spirit to guide us and tesitify of truth, and one can really go down that dark path. We can not see clearly. And then satan wins...who loses? We do.

    To imo validate your thoughts about this ...
    D&C 112
    24 Behold, vengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth, a day of wrath, a day of burning, a day of desolation, of weeping, of mourning, and of lamentation; and as a whirlwind it shall come upon all the face of the earth, saith the Lord.
    25 And upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord;
    26 First among those among you, saith the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord.
    27 Therefore, see to it that ye trouble not yourselves concerning the affairs of my church in this place, saith the Lord.
    (Could this possibly apply to the many non-sustaining comments about our prophet and the vaccination recommendation that has shaken so many's faith?)
    28 But purify your hearts before me; and then go ye into all the world, and preach my gospel unto every creature who has not received it;
    ( Strengthen first ourselves in the Lord before going about correcting others?)
    30 For unto you, the Twelve, and those, the First Presidency, who are appointed with you to be your counselors and your leaders, is the power of this priesthood given, for the last days and for the last time, in the which is the dispensation of the fulness of times,
    Footnote b for verse 24 has this interesting cross reference to 1Peter 4:17-18
    17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
    18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

    13:45 You mean the same scriptures that were written down by men? That arm of flesh? Why is that one okay? Yeah, is an ironic statement that listening to a prophet's voice is putting our trust in the arm of flesh.
    19:40 The name of the church was also corrected by George Albert Smith:
    "I would like to suggest to you, my brothers and sisters, that we honor the name of the Church. It is not the church of James and John, it is not the church of Moroni, nor is it the church of Mormon. It is the Church of Jesus Christ. And while all these men were wonderful and notable characters, we have been directed to worship God in a church that bears the name of his Beloved Son. I wish that our young people as they grow up would keep that fact in mind. We have become so accustomed to being called the Mormon Church by all our friends and neighbors throughout the world, that many people do not know the proper name of the Church, and I think the Lord would expect us to let them know that."
    - George Albert Smith, 1945 Semiannual General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
    22:20 Welcome to the mission field. Fun, isn't it? Here's the answer: "You don't get to choose what I believe. You're not the arbiter of Christianity. You control the Lamb's Book of Life and you don't guard the pearly gates. You don't get to choose what I believe.

      According to the covenant- to me that includes all covenants we make.. because once we start on the covenant path, with baptism, and continue on the same path with additional covenants… I have talked on other videos about how it’s essentially one big covenant that we continue making (the new and everlasting covenant) it’s new because it’s introduced every dispensation but it’s everlasting because it is from the foundation of the world - I will need to find the quote that taught me this.
