Andrew, thank you very much. Due to your videos, which for me are the best in reviewing notebooks, I bought a HP Flip 14" (32GB /1TB) for my wife and a X1 2 in 1 (32GB / 1TB) for me. My reasons for the decision: The HP Flip 14" has outstanding battery live, has a great OLED display and great Keybord. Why I decided for the X1 2 in 1 for myself, was the 5G modem with sim slot. There are just a few notebooks out there with 5G modem. There are NO reviews avaliable regarding 5G notebooks for people like me. I don't like to always turn on the iPhone, switch to the hotspot page to couple with my notebook. A integrated 5G modem makes live so much easier. I also did a couple of speed test's with the X1 and 5G. X1 connected via Hotspot to the iPhone, X1 connected via teathering(cable) to the iPhone, X1 connected to my mobile 5 router (Nighthawk M6 Pro) and x1 using the internal Quectel RM520N. To make is short: The fastest is by far the internal modem, 2nd is M6 Pro, 3rd is iPhone with teathering. I am realy excited about my new the X1 2 in 1. Would have loved to have it with lunar lake, but could not wait. I still need a 16" notebook, where I can not decide. I want a light OLED with lunar lake. I tested the Samsung galaxy book4 pro 360 but did not like the keyboard and returned it. The Filp and X1 Keyboards are by far superior. What realy would be great, would be a review of 5G notebooks. No one did it. Also no speedtest's with 5G on the X1 which was the main reason for me to decide for the X1. Maybe there are more people out there interested in the X1 because of 5G. Thank's again for your excellent reviews.
I got this laptop a few weeks ago. It is great, coming from a Gen 6. Hard to beat carbon x1s for form. So far performance and battery good and no dreaded fan noise.
The fact that it doesn't have a right Ctrl key can be a significant issue, especially for those who write in right-to-left languages. For example, I write in Arabic, and I always use the right Ctrl and Shift keys to change the writing direction to right-to-left. This alone can be a deal-breaker.
I don't like it on the side. Also the pen is covering the button. But what you say makes sense. I honestly did not think about that. For user's using it with external monitor it absolutely makes sense.
The video I have been waiting for. A bit expensive, but I might trade in my Dell Latitude 7440 for this laptop in 2025 when the price drops. This is just bulk business buying negotiation price. Give it 4-6 months for the price to drop to $1,500 USD.
Good job, Andrew. I'm using X1c Gen 12, but the high-frequency fan noise under heavy load is quite annoying. I'm wondering if this generation has improved in that aspect. If you've tested this, please let me know.
Thank you for your comprehensive review, regarding the side power button, I saw multiple unsatisfied reviews, the concern was it might turn on accidentally while it’s in a backpack, have you tested that? I mean will it turn on by pressing the key power while the lid is closed?
I've been eagerly anticipating the release of this review. Unfortunately, there is no 4G/5G slot, but I've heard it will be released next January, so I can wait. The price is high, but it seems to be worth it.
Between this and the M4 Pri 12/16 with 24 Gb of RAM? I also have a 1040 G11 with OLED screen and 32 Gb of RAM. It struggles a little bit switching from heavy session in Lightroom and Photoshop so I'm considering a more powerful machine.
Done waiting for a responsibly priced Lunar Lake 2-in-1. Ended up getting an MSI Summit 13 AI+ and while the screen and keyboard is probably going to be poo poo. I just needed something new cause my Yoga 7 broke and at least it has a 70whr battery and enough port selection.
im seeing the 2.5k price the eliminates it from consideration for me. since i still have my 270 dollar nitro 5 laptop from years ago and still does just about tasks i want it to do while performing well. but i did recentlu get samsung book4 pro 360 for alot of the utility. i can travel without need inverter, alot more storage and great for file transfer. my nitro 5 performs well but lacks that utility factor.
The next year (late 2025) model will be even better: - intel core ultra 300V with 18A (1.8 nm) - lpddr6x at minimum 12,800 mt/s (mhz) - silicon carbon battery, 67 Whr (18% denser), higher lifespan, faster charging, no chemical hazard Would be nice to be convertible and soldered with stylus ( i know there is X1 2in1 model but should be standard)
Seems like a waste. I bought a new Lenovo ($1600). Then I took my old 10 year old hp (black Friday 10 years ago) and put a new SSD in it ($60). Booted both. The new $1600 one booted up 5 seconds quicker. Brand new $1600 laptop compared to a 10 year old budget ($200 ten years ago) and the new one booted up only 5 seconds quicker. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. That was the only difference. Between a budget processor from 10 years ago and a new Intel core. From a $200 laptop and a $1600 dollar one. Both running windows 11. Can you wait a extra five seconds? Or wait a extra 20 minutes video rendering? Have a cup of coffee? If you can you probably dont need a new laptop. When they compare bench marks look at the last YEARS not just the current and last gen on the data screen. If you look at the years past you'll realize there isn't a drastic change. In fact some from last or a couple generations ago are on par or faster than the current.
*UPDATE* So here are some updated numbers that I ran after the Live Stream: Geekbench 6 S/C 2,431 and M/C 10,793

As a ThinkPad enthusiast, I always enjoy watching it.

Love the power button on the side. A godsend if you ever use the laptop docked with an external monitor.
It makes so much sense for docked use.

Waiting for arrow lake-h/HX and Thunderbolt 5 next year. Love lenovo, looking forward to getting something new from them next year.
Would have been the perfect thinkpad if the full body was made of actual carbon fiber at this price. thanks Andrew
Please do a review comparison between this and surface laptop 7 x elite
Great review. Looks great and sounds great…price - not so much!
I expect Lenovo to slash prices. They always come in high right off the bat.
Have you considered publishing a review of this machine operating on Linux?
I've been eagerly anticipating the release of this review.

I own a macbook sometimes its too complicated to use. Should i consider this ?
That weight shave gotta eat from the build quality and rigidity
Build and rigidity seems same to me

this one or zenbook s14???
Good question. S 14 is good for consumer and I would recommend X1 Carbon for business user.
Why would one need a gen5 ssd in a notebook?
Out of interest, what’s you’re go to laptop? Is this going to be it?
@tiawsis26 yes this has been so good I am making this my daily driver
Thanks for the reply 👌🏻 sounds promising

Next time stick a postit note on it :-)
Good idea!
Good laptop but extortionate prices as expected from a thinkpad X1

There is only 1 ssd so can't be raidX
