    Come on, what's the science here? 'Someone is doing a good job good if you like him, someone is just doing a bad job if you dislike him', my grandmother already knew.
    And of course you will get away with a lot of things when you are decent looking, isn't this what lawyers are building on?

      ReallyFilthyToad well, the video oversimplifies things quite a bit. There have been tons of fascinating studies about the halo effect. The science behind it is that your brain creates kind of a fantasy person that is "perfect" or "terrible" just based on some extremely small amount of information/ first impression. There are facial features, e.g. of politicians on billboards, that are systematically associated with attributes like leadership and confidence. Even if you know about the halo effect its very hard to consciously resist it, we are so easily manipulated.

      2. Your grandma is probably smarter than most, because we still see this problem, i.e., the anti vaxxers listening to celebrities

      It's not just that, it's that people make judgements about completely unrelated qualities based on one quality, for example judging a person's intelligence based on how they look.
