A new Requiem for me, love his Dies Irae based on the infamous theme!

What I like is the fact that MANY new (old) compositions are now on utube. There are so many wonderful composers gettinbg some attention that I never even heard of.

This is an impressive "Requiem". dramatic, deeply-felt, and often moving. It's easy to see why Hamerik regarded it as his best or favorite work.

I only have a handful of Requiems that capture my attention. This one expanded that range.

There's even some "hints" to the Requiem of Dvorak in this work - especialle in the introduction; Thank you so much for posting this!!!

I understand this was the composer's favourite of all his compositions, good to have it here on Y.T. Would make a refreshing change to hear it performed live in place of yet another Verdi, Faure or Mozart which, as great as they are, suffer from over exposure!

Rehearsal time is saved by orchestras administrators, so they pick what they don’t have to risk losing an audience over.

The Contralto solos are a big highlight throughout. The Recordare, Offertorium, and Agnus Dei are captivating.

Can't deny that I find similarities with his brass notation with Berlioz' Grande Messe des Morts, but still one of my very favorite Requiems!

I am sure that you already know that he was one of Berlioz' students.

I agree with Kristian Oma, about the similarities to Berlioz. Bertioz' Messe des Morts is my favorite.

+TaoCampina IMO The Berlioz Grande Messe des Morts is the greatest of them all, followed by the much neglected Dvorak but it's interesting and much appreciated to hear this almost totally forgotten Requiem which is clearly a first class work and worthy of revival.

Endnu en dødsmesse, men denne gang af den danske komponist Asger Hamerik. Sørgelig, følsom langmodig smuk.......

At some point I felt I was listening to Berlioz's Requiem. In fact, I went back and, what I heard at 11:01 is a "copy" of a part of Dies irae (2nd mvt). (Check th-cam.com/video/HofoFYxqIgU/w-d-xo.html at 14:05 ...)
Otherwise, it's a very beautiful Requiem.
