Same! I still have several of the original sets, and had just pulled them out a few months ago. Going to play them on the off days when my D&D group can't all play
No joke, I did a genuine, eyes blinking, head turning, double take seeing that thumbnail. Heroscape?! In 2024!? With three of my favorite people!? Is this a dream!? But seriously, this game was my introduction to tabletop back in the day and I loved it with all my heart. (And wallet. 😂) I'm so glad its making a comeback. Thanks for the video!
It always feels good to see hard-working DMs just cut loose and *play* stuff together! Especially these two, 'cause they habitually lean into the narrative aspect of dang near everything... including tactical war games.
I didn't watch much of Critical Role but I remember years ago for a fight in the plane of fire Matt set down the ruin wall pieces from the first Heroscape set. Back then HS was almost a dead game so I was happily surprised to see Matt had them, and now watching him play and talk about it my suspicions are confirmed! Also, I agree with using the terrain for other games. I was 13 when I started playing D&D (4e) and I set up combat scenarios using the terrain from my Hersocape set. Had the drow and dragon from the D&D crossover master set, my Roman legionaries stood as kobolds, and the players used whoever they wanted as their characters. Definitely among my favorite memories of playing D&D. I'm 27 now and live in a different state, but when I visit my family I'll stay for a week and we'll play Hersocape each evening we're able too. It's just too much fun. I'm glad that years ago I was able to get a hold of the first master set and waves 1 and 2 (with two copies of each squad) plus a few other expansion packs so we have a sizeable collection to draft our armies from. The next time we get together, we'll kick it off with a battle only using the new set!
Have master set 2 "swarm of the marro", really surprised going by these comments that Heroscape is still even a thing. Would not have given that high odds, given how much else seems like was lost/forgotten/abandoned over time.
I was introduced into Heroscape after it was dead. Sets have been so expensive and now they are releasing more! I'm beyond stoked to fulfill my childhood
And the prices in the secondary market have ballooned since the announcement of the relaunch. Completing my collection suddenly got much more expensive, but I am happy to see new sets being released.
Man, I used to run a big annual New Years HS game back in the day. A bunch of people would come over, I'd have a huge custom map built, we'd draft big armies, and play for a couple hours then go watch the fireworks downtown. I miss this game so much.
Heck yeeeeees! Heroscape is one of the few games that's survived the purging of my childhood items and I'm so happy to see it come back! I feel like it's the gate way into RPGs/miniature games.
My friend introduced me to this a decade ago and they had a huge map set up. Both times we had like 10 players, it was epic. Not to brag but I played it twice and won both times.
@@Khajmer Add Laura, Aimee Carrero, and Ally Beardsley to that table and you'd have the perfect table of chaos. Just imagine how many NPCs would be traumatised, not to mention whoever is (un)fortunate enough to be the GM.
GG. In terms of DND like Mat mentioned I had a great Champaign running the very hex grid over map as the small scale map. Being able to go strait from this historical top down view of a massive landscape to in game was a very cool multi use thing that my players were not expecting until some key features were added to the map.
Heroscape coming back and Matthew Mercer?! One of my favorite voice actors/Dungeon Masters playing it?! I had to like and subscribe as the Battle of All Time begins once again!
It's so beautiful. Amazing how true to the original this all looks. I feel like a teenager again. Except now I have an income to actually get these sets!
This video brought back the craziest nostalgia. I had the rise of the Valkyrie set back in 2005 or so when I was five or six years old and I had completely forgotten about this game until seeing this video.
I loved this game! I had the original set and the MARVEL set! I collected a lot of forces of Jandar, and I had plans for an army based on the USA. But unfortunately, I didn’t have anyone other than my Dad to play with. I can’t believe that they’re bringing this game back!!!
I'm screaming. Owned the original bought it several times but lost all the pieces over the years. I'm in. I'm sold. It's heroscape I don't need to know anything else.
One of my friends is obsessed with this game, so I've been playing it on large, complex maps for the past twenty years. This map seems to small and simple for any tactics, but a good introduction to the game.
This vid was news to me that it was being continued! Finally i can have terrian for the game i never got to play, RPGs in general and also for Battletech! Triple score!
@@smileydog5941 just like I said $225. And if you're taking a painting minis for the first time you're going to invest another $100 in all the required paints to match the cards and some brushes.
I never played this as a kid sadly, but I’m sold on it thanks to GTS and two of my favourites, Matt Mercer/Leon S. Kennedy and Deborah Ann Woll/Karen Page! 😁
I have every set from back in the day, i even built custom shadow boxes for each wave. I also name most of my d&d characters after heroscape heros. My aasimar warlock is jandar
I always like seeing Matt, Becca and Deborah on screen. Having the three of them together is even better. Although the thing that made me click even faster was Heroscape. What a great game. It is such a shame that it had to jump through so many hoops to come back to our tables in this new iteration.
Wow, I asked my parents to get me this for christmas when I was like 12. Nobody I knew played this or even heard of it. Probably gave away all the pieces I had.
Learn how to play the game here: th-cam.com/video/KiEWu3itjEo/w-d-xo.html
I saw “Matt Mercer and Deborah Ann Will play…” and couldn’t click fast enough. Love the energy of these two goofing off together 😄
Yeah, could have said "tic tac toe" and I'd still be here =P
Two of the kindest most wholesome people on the internet
I thought you said "golfing together" which would have been odd. But I'd watch that.
@@adamwhitehead7289 I’d probably watch that, too 😄
As someone who got into HeroScape in the early 00's and is planning to introduce it to my kid soon, I'm super pumped to see it coming back around!

Have big ol' box full of the originals from a friend who had to immegrate and couldn't take them with him. The scenery and models are spectacular.

Man younger me broke and lost so many of my master set pieces through my many moves. I wish I could afford to get the old sets again 😞
Brings joy to my eyes, i still have both Master Sets and all of the figures i collected as a kid
Somehow missed that this was a thing that existed. What a delight!
Agreed! She would rock either Candela or Daggerheart. (Or any other system one-shot)
Becca hosting Deb Ann Woll and Matt Mercer! Yay! Glad to see their behind the scenes friendships turn into content again! Its been years!

Amazing, so many of my favorite TTRPG creators in one place! Love to learn a new game from them

One of the people i played the Battletech minis game with used Heroscape for maps!
I was looking for someone to mention Battletech when I saw the hexes! :)
I have several sets of Heroscape from its original release. I am glad to see it coming back.
Love the people cams and the whole aesthetic of the set. So glad to see more people enjoying the game and looking forward to HeroScape's return.

I love this. So much fun.
Getting to play DnD with either of these is on my bucket list.
I thought a bucket list was for things more so in the realm of possibility, like traveling somewhere or sky diving...

Wow, Matt's rolling dice like I do in D&D 😅
Heroscape hexes are also super great for Battle Tech table top, which is hex based, but only comes with flat print-plans.
Dorkiest play of a tabletop game I have ever seen, and I loved every moment of it.
