This is because of heavy subsidies on fuel in Malaysia, less than US$0.5 per liter for diesel. Hence, the government restricted 20L purchases if one uses jerry cans to prevent smuggling.
Toxic channel. yes , they conveniently left out the fact that they paid some of the cheapest diesel they will encounter anywhere in the world. very bad mannerism without explaining the backgrounding context. Unsubscribing.
on behalf of my malaysian neighbours , as a singaporean , i implore you to give my country the miss. you wont be able to afford the diesel here. we can also do without passing through visitors who are uncouth and vulgar , who belittle local regulations and practices.
@@hamkahamid2044 I think Nick is not intentionally trying to abuse the system. It just happened that there was no fuel dock. I’m sure he will happily pay for unsubsidised diesel if there is a fuel dock that allows him to pump 300L straight from a fuel dock.
Thank you for this raw and uncensored video. I loved it. We have traveled through Asia and had similar (stressful) experiences. We take pleasure in recounting them at dinner parties where our guests listen in amazement. Sadly, some of the comments seem to have missed the point of the story and have underestimated both your intentions with regard to fuelling RR2 and the stressful combination of dangerous tides, unforeseen regulations and police roadblocks in a foreign country. ‘Haters gonna hate’ but your true friends get it, love it and will be back for more.

Nick, absolutely love your rants. I am glad that there is someone out there that swears as much as I do, when I am off a long run up. Dont ever change and always include them. we love it. It is part of who you two are!
Wow! I am so impressed with you guys! Yes, it is stressful for you, but it is really engaging for us. You are definitely keeping it real ! Thank again for taking me along.😊
If there is an adventure to be had by just going for fuel, Nick is going to have it every time!. The funny part is he doesn't expect it and his reaction always cracks me up!
I love the fact that when Nick started the rant I was already with him in frustration at such a terribly designed port and by the end I was ready to just "weigh" anchor and bail on the whole thing! PS. I wouldn't have had any clue there were unmentionables on the line until you told me!
Thumbs up, mainly for one of Nick's rants. You get to see a lot of front from people on TH-cam so it's always good to see some honest reaction and emotion. Good on ya
That initial anchoring was suspect, I didn't see any other boats and it was right by a huge bridge. Surely there was a better harbour/dock to go to, was that the first mistake or was there a reason for that?
Be glad you stayed on the boat Terysa, Nick had a hell of day. Glad you were able to get more of your needed diesel. Nick rants are priceless. Have you purchased and flying your courtesy Malaysia flag on RR2.
I feel you! I’ve been living in East Africa for the past 4 years and the things you have to deal with is crazy! Part of the allure, I suppose! I enjoy hearing about your challenges 😊
When I lived in SE Asia I found that every day was a new adventure. You never knew what was going to happen. When I moved back to the US it became boring and mundane.
Nick you are keeping it real! That would have been sketchy as hell! The backroads would have freaked me out, but I get it that they didn't want to go through the police checkpoint.
So real and relatable- not a show edited to be perfection personified. Looking forward to next episode, having watched the cruisingkiwis channel of their trip through the straight - fun and interesting times ahead. Hope on reality you are beside a hotel pool somewhere sipping cocktails
That's a nice story of getting fuel, wonderful. Much better than mine when I had to hold the fuel nozzle all the time for 400l in Calais, cause the resting mechanism was broken.
I remember i got a massive Stauner on the the breakwater at Terrenganu i showed it to some of the locals and they said it was the biggest one they had seen around there !
Oh yea I forgot to tell you malaysia has this thing about Jerry cans. So does indonesia. You need to carry about 20 Jerry cans and fill up at certified fuel docks in malaysia. To get you through the country. Langkawi has a few fuel docks. You already know about phuket. It's easy. But double the malay and Indo prices.
Bless you Nick, it does look stress. Though I do agree I think I would rather be having the experiences you guys are having than sitting in my office Your videos are so engaging I absolutely love watching them
Malaysia is beautiful, used to work in Dungun, great experience but it is one of the most conservative states, hence expect a certain difference on how things are handled/done.
You're welcomed to Singapore, mates. Before you do, swing by Batam to fuel up; you won't like the diesel price in Singapore. Keep away from fancy digs that charge 9% GST and a 10% service charge on food and beverages. Beer is relatively cheap at the eating houses aka coffeeshops and hawker centres. No GST nor service charge at these places. Eat and drink like a local and things won't get so terribly expensive. We don't eat as much meat per meal in Asia as you do in the West so you are likely to feel hungry after awhile...Go to the NTUC Fairprice supermarket to stock up on beer and supplies. Cold Storage is a wee bit fancier. Anything other than these two chains, you're on your own.
Let me not discourage you from the fancy restaurants though but be prepared to pay. A real deal woodfired oven Italian pizza runs from SGD25 to SGD35, ex-GST, ex-Service Charge. Check out Publico Ristorante at Robertson Quay.
It somehow seems to me that you often make bad choices... Who would go out at Night in a dinghy in an unknown harbour to get fuel from inland petrol stations!?! Relax, have a drink and go next morning! 😂
LOLOLOLOLOLOL BEST FU......VID EVER LOLOLOL had tears in my eyes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nick rants are about 75% of the reason I watch this show at all. Don't lean into that though. They must be authentic.
Sometimes I just think he’s a PR. I’m not sure I’d want to live with him. He’s always miserable or ranting. Ugh

@@hamkahamid2044 Oh No! Come back! /s
Listening to his account, it seems like he paid non subsidized rates. 150 RM for 20 litres.
Can't appreciate the peaks until you have been in the valleys. Sailing Ruby Rose. A very entertaining sailing vlog. One of the top three on TH-cam.
Nick speaking the Kings English. Love it. Don't hold back.
I admire how honest you both are always. Life isn't shiny, TH-cam doesn't need to be either
Shiny? All these TH-cam channels do is create drama. Are you serious. I watch just to see how they make a mountains out of a termite hills!

I love this because it shows that it's not all sundowners, sunshine a steady following winds.
Nick needs to wear his ball cap on backwards more often, love it!
Best Nick monologue EVER!!! 😂😂

My new drinking game: I drink every time Nick sets-off the beeper. Sail-on!
Bottle of beer or huge shots. Guess you stay drunk for the rest of the day. LOL.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Apparently that is 73 shots ;)
if you use actual alcohol for that you'll be dead in short order! LOL
Don’t do that! You’ll die of alcohol poisoning 😂
I'm glad that you are okay, and thanks for sharing the good and the bad. Safe travels.
As a musician, the best line I ever wrote: "They tell me, happiness is a brief interlude between the crap life throws at you"
Nick you’re a bloody legend mate! You got it done Sir 👏👏👏
I think you did a great job Nick. For what you went through I think you held it together very good.👍
It's so nice to watch all the joy of sailing without any of the pain. All the best.
Love Nicks rants. It’s reality!!!!!!
nothing wrong with blowing off steam !! Happy Sailing !! God Bless
Good to see Nick back in form! Ha!
I hope he gave you a thumbs up 👍🏻
nowhere to get fuel in an entry port. you can check in but you can never leave
It's just like Hotel California! 😂
@@Krumelur I think that was the point.

bwaa ha ha ha, nicks pain is our entertainment!!!!
Have you tried taking things back to BnQ lately and finding a replacement in the right store!
When we get a video and Nick is not ranting about something we feel cheated, the comedy value of Nick ranting is just priceless😂
Agreed! It is like an episode of Seinfeld. Guess what character Nick is?
Nick you are keeping it real! That would have been sketchy as hell! The backroads would have freaked me out, but I get it that they didn't want to go through the police checkpoint.
Here's to you Nick! 👍

At least you have a great adventure story. Tough, weird and crazy usually make the best stories.
Love the Bunnings hat!!
Awesome rant. Completed understandable!
The realities of sailing is part of the appeal of these types of channels. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us 😊
Those harrowing moment make the best of stories for sundowners.... glad it came out well....
"High Highs Low Lows"... indeed.
Always good to have a rant! The next episode looks a little less stressful.
All part of the adventure! Welcome to Malaysia Nick.
That fuel fetching story is a classic!!! I feel like I have a similar crazy adventure once a season
Thanks for keeping it real! Love you guys!! ❤
Very entertaining dialog near the end in fluent nickrantish.
Nick you’re a legend, love your personality!
Love a good Nick rant.
Enjoyed the Honest Rant, straight shooter
No problem! You're the Nick!
Did you ever get the courtesy flag?? 😮😮
Incredible rant, great episode.
We all live and learn. Keep moving forward.
Regardless how much breaks you still have the comfort of each other, the rest you can always overcome with time.
Rants are good ! Thanks for showing .
WOW ! TOO MUCH FUN ALL AT ONCE !
Nice to see the Ol’ Nick!🤣🤣🤣
Finally some real content!
Bless your hearts. Boy you guys have had it rough. Stay safe out there.
You should buy the fuel in marina available, eg duyung marina which is open to leisure yacht, few hundred meter ahead after the bridge
Wow what an experience. Not the drama I would want to go thru. But you made it back Nick. well done!
Ahh yes, heres he old Nick I remember so well! :). thanks for sharing.
One of your best.
So, how did you get the other 460 litres you needed?
You earned that beer, Nick! Dang! What a night! See you next week. Happy Sailing.
I discovered you when you were off the coast of France back in the day. You seem so much more stressed now -- God Bless and please be safe
Epic rant!! 😂😂😂 Love your channel!!

This was good. Bummer you have to bleep him so much. It was a good rant. Cheers to not being in an office!
Nick's verbal skills, while always keenly honed, are reaching George Carlin level of professionalism.
Wow, that was the best description of a BUGGER DAY that I have ever heard.
You win the Trophy 🏆 🎉❤
You guys are great taking everything in stride
You need a Rocna to elevate your anchoring woes. 😊
Lol. Nick sounded like a cursing chipmunk! Beep beep beep! Look up the chipmunks. It was a cartoon in America awhile ago.
Love ❤ the rant stories. 🙌🙌🙌
I enjoyed watching!
A sail boat Captain getting stressed about fuel - there is some irony there don't you think 🙂
I remember i got a massive Stauner on the the breakwater at Terrenganu i showed it to some of the locals and they said it was the biggest one they had seen around there !
