  • What made Michael Schumacher so successful? How did he change the sport for good?
Join me as I both celebrate the outstanding success of Schumachers career over a 20 year period which ammounted to 7 world titles, 91 wins and legacy that changed the modern sport as we know it! But what made him so successful, what traits and god given abilities allowed him to achieve the highest success of motorsport!
Here I argue why Schumacher is still regarded as the great of all time and why perhaps a Hamilton despite all his success may fall short of this status.
This video has taken nearly two months to complete which admittedly could've taken less time but I had to watch nearly two decades worth of grand prix highlights to find out where his true brilliance came from! So please if you liked this video, leave a like, a comment, subscribe nd share this with others who you feel may enjoy this content!
A big thank you to Sufian from SufianIshaqCreative for making an increably detailed thumbnail artwork for this documentary. There are many more prints like this on his instagram account @sufianishaqcreative so please do check his work out!

Your video claims he swerved into Damon deliberately when the FIA cleared him. Onboard video footage shows this, as well as, car telemetry.
It would also be worthwhile to point out that winning more races from behind isn't as easy as driving in clean air and we saw that recently with Lewis v Alonso.
Finally, it's worth mentioning in any Lewis v Schumacher debate the fact that, Lewis has only ever driven for one engine mfr- Mercedes. He's driving in the least competitive era of F1 even before Honda decided to pull out and when F1 regs have been static for the longest period in their history without any major changes. Compare the latter, to major rule changes aimed solely at blunting Ferrari's advantage, twice in four years, in terms of aero, engine, gear ratios, as well as, qualification formats, refuelling, testing, engine displacement etc and you get a sense of how much Lewis has benefited.
There's simply no comparison. Lewis is definitely one of the best but far from the greatest.
      Cheers!

Really enjoyed watching this. Great work. I was lucky enough to meet Michael twice. Once in the paddock after he won the 2004 British F1 GP and again at the Race of Champions at wembley stadium in 2007. He gave me a signed Ferrari drivers cap which I still own. Such an amazing driver. Let's hope we see him again in the future.

This is what set him apart from all others, Outright SPEED ! then couple that with his dedication, willingness to learn, personal fitness, ability of analysis, youve got yourself an unbeatable driver.

The difference between Michael & other greats, is that he drove the team as well as the car... Pulling in talent and uplifting underperforming elements. He showed leadership, not just being the "#1" driver.
Much of Mercedes success is is credited to Michael's development work.
He had a habit of making teams work with and around him to achieve success. Most other top drivers (Hamilton and Senna included... And even Fangio) aimed for the best team with the fastest car. It doesn't detract from what all the other drivers achieved, but IMO is what sets Michael apart --- transforming teams

From pit stops to the wheel assembly, to refueling, to the relief valve, the fuel rig, to aerodynamics and downforce, tire design and suspension. Nobody has changed F1 more than Gordon Murray. That’s a documented fact. Racing strategy as it’s used around the world in all series didn’t even exist until Gordon Murray created it. Go research Gordon Murray. Michael Schumacher brought fitness into F1 , and he’s the best wet weather driver ever. And he was always at the limit. Will always be my favorite driver.

His physiotherapist is my physiotherapist (Balbir Singh) and what many people don't see is how he treated the people in the team. He knew everyone, his problems, their wifes, their kids, he cared. He really did. You can see that at 16:37 - they loved him because he was such a loving and giving human being. I miss Michael a lot. And by the way, 2005 and 2006 - we know why Michael lost. In 2005 the Fia changed the tire pitstop regulation to stop Ferraris dominance. It was only to stop Ferrari. Bernie Ecclestone admitted that. He would've won those titles as well.

Schumacher wins this by far. Being a mechanic and being able to speak to the F1 crew about how to gain more speed was unheard of. He drove in times where drivers have not that advanced radio coaching for the youngsters today. He drove with manual a gearbox, went through the tire war between Michelin and Bridgestone, had refueling strategies available. So much more was back than possible to win as a driver.
The kids today just are spoiled little babies nurturing a V8 card + Electric charge around the track that the team gave them. They must follow orders and team instructions. It's not the same anymore. If something little goes wrong they cry and complain already.

You captured his highs, lows and most importantly, his spirit brilliantly into this documentary. I remember growing up with him and seeing him clinch that 2000 World Title was just out of this world for me as a Ferrari fan. I am also glad you made the comparison to Lewie Lewie, who I really do consider to be an overrated diva at this point.
It is an eternal shame what happened to him when he went skiing, but luckily we still have the memories. Remember: don't cry because it's over - smile because it happened.
P.S., you forgot to include his technical pole lap in 2012 at Monaco, showing he still had it had it not been for that penalty. Cheers!

Lewis is definitely one of the best but far from the greatest. I like that he's very humble but too woke for my taste. Also, he's driven in the least competitive era of F1 even before Honda pulled out. He's only driven for one engine mfr (versus Michael's four) and in a period that F1 regs have remained static for the longest period. FIA targeted Ferrari twice in four years in a way a team has never been targeted before. Michael also has more wins from behind which is a testament to his ability and he has far more DNFs from engine failure (85%) than Lewis (56%). Lewis doesn't need to do as much as testing as they had to in those days away from the luxuries of home, nor, take care of a family, or, as much promotional responsibility. He didn't have to adapt to changes in refuelling, qualification formats, competing tyre compounds etc. No comparison. Schumacher is the GOAT although, Senna just pips him for me.

Michael had the ability to drive beyond the capability of the car. Max is showing some of that ability now as well. It seems to me that the F1 powers that be are hell bent on making sure that Hamilton will be gifted an 8th WC, just so that it can be 'proved' that he is better than Michael. I sincerely hope that Max will end the tabloid trash that F1 has become since Hamilton came on the scene. Wolf has destroyed Bottas - who did not learn from Rosberg, and has believed the 'next year u'll be WC" untruths fed him. Sad.

I saw an interview with Rosberg recently where he mentioned that he learnt the whole concept of brake balance bias from Michael and how using this technique on entry and exit of corners was worth extra tenths. This is where Michael made the difference in terms of raw speed. He knew how to maximise every inch of the variables at the disposal of an F1 driver.
There will never be another of his kind. I think its safe to say. Michael truly transcended his sport. An absolute hero. I am at peace with his current condition. The gods only loan out someone this special for a limited period of time.

Well this is just the kind of comment that makes my day! Albeit a late reply but I appreciate you taking the time to comment on the video and taking the time to sit through and watch it! It took an increadibly long time to make so I'm glad the hard work has paid off! Stick around the channel for more of these big documentaries, I love sharing my passion for motorsport to others!

Thank you for the description, 👍 given.
And I agree, I don’t think Hamilton wins will ever be anything to compare with Michael’s wins (here we are, finally Red Bull has a competitive car, and Max is killing it, sorry Hamilton, you’re still an awesome driver)

For me michael the best of the best,, he did it with every car that absolutely not was the best. And true champion, even senna needed the best car to be a champion McLaren and Williams don't forget that. Schumacher my number 1 for always and Hamilton that's a joke a big shame. Thx to michael and brown

Senna moved to the Williams when Williams was clearly on the down swing. I thought then as I do now Senna made a big mistake going to Williams.

The natural limit instinct is s great way of understanding some of the most elite drivers. I think Senna was the other master of a natural instinct for the limit.

Michael Schumacher will always be the finest and greatest ever racer to ever walk planet earth
His skill was simply superb and his natural talent and speed was freakish
There have so many other truly great racers in the past that have achieved such greatness
Juan Manuel Fangio won 4 consecutive world titles for 3 different teams and 5 overall with 4 different teams plus he is the oldest world champion of all time
John Surtees is still the only man to this very day to have won world championship titles on both 2 wheels and 4
Jim Clark is still the only man to have won the Formula 1 world championship and the Indy 500 in the same year 1965 plus he was Tasman champion French and British F2 champion that year too
Sir Jack Brabham is still the only man to have won the world title in a car bearing his own name
Graham Hill is still the only triple crown champion
Niki Lauda showed his fighting spirit by making a stunning come back at Monza 1976 after his near fatal accident in Germany plus he went on to win 2 more world titles afterwards
Mike Hailwood made quite possibly the greatest Motorsport comeback after braking his legs in 1975 he returned to racing in 1978 aged 38 to win his 13th Isle of Man TT and his 10th world title
Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi and Nigel Mansell are the only drivers to have won both the Formula 1 world championship and Indy car championship
Alain Prost was the first driver to score 50 or more wins in Formula 1
Valentino Rossi has won 9 world titles with 5 different engine displacements 125cc, 250cc, 500, 990cc and 800cc
    I could go on forever
But what Michael Schumacher achieved in Formula 1 alone for me is greater than all of those magnificent achievements put together
Think about it Michael has taken on 13 different world champions he's beaten them all weather it be in qualifying, the race, championship standings or even for the world title itself, he's won at lest 5 of his 7 world titles in cars that where not the best in the field and when he first joined Ferrari in 1996 the team had only scraped up 2 wins in the last 5 years
Now let's not forget Michael could have taken the easy route and joined Williams in 1996 but he didn't he fancied a challenge and decided to join Ferrari instead
And what followed for the next 4 years despite not winning the title was moments of absolute brilliance
The moments of brilliance where races such as Spain 1996 when he set a lap time 2.2 seconds faster in wet conditions and winning by 45 seconds with a faulty engine, Monaco 1997 again in the wet where he won by 53 seconds, Hungary 1998 where he famously won by using a 3 stop strategy and setting blistering times during the race as he would of in qualifying and Malaysia 1999 where he came back after breaking his leg on a brand new track setting a qualifying lap time 1 second faster than anyone else
But then finally in 2000 it all came good and in Japan that year a race that Schumacher himself was the race of his life used his speed and intelligence to outsmart his old rivals Mika Hakkinen and McLaren to take a stunning win and his 3rd world title
And of corse the rest is the stuff of legend and history
2001 he clinched the title in Hungary his 4th overall and his 51st GP win equaling 2 of Alain Prosts biggest records in the same race
2002 wins his record tying 5th world title with 6 races to go and sets a new record of wins in a season 11 wins and 17 out of 17 races all on the podium
2003 he withstood intense pressure from both McLaren, Williams to win a record breaking 6th world title
And then there was 2004 world title number 7 at Spa, 13 wins, 8 pole positions, 12 wins in the first 13 races, 15 overall podiums and 10 fastest laps
2005 was tough for sure but even with the Ferrari that Michael had that year he still finished 3rd in the championship due to great consistency
2006 was his final shot at the world title and he came heart breakingly close but his engine sadly failed him in Japan but he drove one of his most incredible races in Brazil finishing 4th after suffering from a puncture and coming from the back
2012 was the 3rd and final season of Schumacher's come back and once again even at the age of 43 he still showed glimpses of the old magic by setting the fastest time in qualifying in Monaco and finishing on the podium for the 155th and final time in Valencia
I really really can't wait for the new film to come out on Netflix it's going to be very very emotional for sure but it will also be lovely to look back on his stunning career
Lewis Hamilton isn’t worthy of a mention whatsoever he’s the biggest cheat of all time and the most narcissistic being to have ever set foot in f1
Forza Michael get well soon and keep fighting champ 🏎🇩🇪🏎🇩🇪🏎🇩🇪🏎🇩🇪🏎🇩🇪🏎🇩🇪🏎
