The amount of money I would pay for this and "The Other New Song", recorded in the studio, and pressed on a 10 inch vinyl is probably enough to make a payment on a car or a house.
Dude why do people say this overdone joke about Metallica having no bass that was only the justice record 35 years ago. Most of their shit if not all have had plenty of bass especially live. So your overdone Metallica has no bass joke doesn't make sense man. God it's so cringe.
For those uninformed, this was just before the release of Death Magnetic played as a tryout, and ended up being released as "End of the Line". Also, part of the solo is from "All Nightmare Long". The "Bass Player" joke makes more sense knowing Trujillo (the bass player) was the newest member of the band only joining Metallica on their previous album St. Anger (2003)
I know that some parts of the song ended up on songs from DM, but it has some St. Anger vibe to it, which is logical, because it was written just 3 years after St. Anger and is more like a transitional song between the 2 albums.
The first part is obviously what's futurely known as The End of the Line, and I heard a part from All Nightmare Long but the other parts I can't recall. Some of this material might be used on this upcoming album this year.
This was my first Metallica concert ever. They celebrated the 20th anniversary of Master of Puppets by playing the whole album live, after this song. It was the coolest thing ever!
A fan-uploaded video of this performance was the first video I ever saw on youtube, owe my account to this concert. Glad to see this version still exists.
Great call! But then again Lars has been so lazy...just about every song since has been reminiscent of 'Disappear"! I know people love to put down Lars; and I usually don't partake, cuz what does he have to prove? But then again, remember when he actually played drum fills?? Everything that is not four on the floor with a ton of cymbal crashes seems like a crazy effort from him. Lars used to shine; now he just bores. But hey, at least James can still write EPIC songs; Kirk can still shred; and rob crushes on bass. 3 out of 4 ain't bad!
Darren Hollander Yeah I like this one better then the End of the Line. But I'm glad they put the super fast riff after the solo in All Nightmare Long that one kicks assss!!
damn..metallica is THE best band out there. these guys are pretty talented... most of the other bands in the world today can't even compare to metallica's greatnes
@metalmaistro68 aah good point :) I wouldnt be surprised if in the middle of the song James would say Stop and then they start writing tabs in the middle of the concert :P
This applies to everything post-Cliff - that has been one of the consistent assessment of Metallica "Bass Averse" - but in the end they're fuckin' awesome and have helped Rob stand out on Death Magnetic - amazing amazing album.
i remember the debut of this song which was 2 days prior to this recording in Waldbuhne, Germany... when Lar's double bass kick in the reaction of the crowd was UUUUUUUUUUUHHHHGGGG hahahaha great moments!!!
I'm ready for them to get the new album out and start on the next tour! Gotta see them again!! Only seen them on the Death Magnetic tour, and it rocked and I'm ready for the next one!!
It's like a mixup of some of Death Magnetic songs, especially End Of The Line and All Nightmare Long! Sounds very nice, considering it's from 2006! Like it!
"Most of his kit is triggered, but not to sample sounds. When playing live, these triggers go to a "noise gate" which prevents the mics from picking up the "ambient" noise the concert and only allows the sound of the hits to be heard. In concert, the kicks are very pronounced because of these, however, in the "LiveMetallicA" releases, the sound is not recorded from the "noise gate" but from the acoustic mics on the kick drum. This leads to what sounds like dropped and missing double bass fills."
Absolutely. i recognise parts from all nightmare long... ive heard that so many times when i was playing Battlefield 2... that song makes the killing easy.
@XxANDRESxXZ only the intro, a few riffsand part of the solo actually made it way to "The End of the Line" part of the riffs ended in "All Nightmare Long"
It doesn't have a title. It does contain riffs that eventually made it into the songs "End of the LIne" and "All Nightmare Long". Usually fans refer to it as "Death Is not the End"
The amount of money I would pay for this and "The Other New Song", recorded in the studio, and pressed on a 10 inch vinyl is probably enough to make a payment on a car or a house.
The amount of money I would pay for hearing Dead Kennedy Rolls full song is probably enough to buy country

"it sounds better with bass" Probably the only time James has ever said that..lol
atleast since jason left lol

This is WAAAY before the release of DM. Almost 2 1/2 years.
Only the intro went to "The End of the Line".
@@Neo-Midgar yes but it was used in death magnetic
It was two whole years before Death Magnetic came out. Not really just before.
I think there is a little snippet of Lux Aterna in here too
Sounds like a mix between the St. Anger sound and Death Magnetic.
It is Death Magnetic
I know that some parts of the song ended up on songs from DM, but it has some St. Anger vibe to it, which is logical, because it was written just 3 years after St. Anger and is more like a transitional song between the 2 albums.

I wished they would have kept this song the way it was instead of pulling it apart for end of the line
this song called st.magnetic.
Watch the next the album be called that XD

exactly, death is not the end, blackened is.

This song helped the band to write at least three of their songs on Death Magnetic.
Two.

Me too!!
Wish they would’ve kept this version
I’m here in 2021 baby! Love that second riff so much
2022 for me. I saved it some years ago. I come back periodically.
Agreed - might have been the better version

I loved the beginning of this when I first heard it. That little riff James does by himself was so damn bad ass.
Sounds a touch like Raining Blood by Slayer that riff.....

"There are no words" yet he starts singing..
It was a great show. I was in that crazy audience in the Netherlands
I love Kirk.
"Actually its supposed to go like this"

I remember this like it was yesterday
From 5:04-5:14, does anybody else hear the "I Disappear" drums and bass? That little section sounded just like I Disappear with the drums and bass!
I'll check it out man, guess they miss Jason lol

the solo is just epic
Yes! It's a shame it didn't make it into the album. However, check the chairot from Dark moor, has almost the exact same solo!
So disappointed when this song didn't make it to Death Magnetic intact tho!!!!
Darren Hollander the section that starts at 2:52 and goes until 3:35 is fucking great! like you said, shame it didnt make it in the album.
Darren Hollander Yeah I like this one better then the End of the Line.
But I'm glad they put the super fast riff after the solo in All Nightmare Long that one kicks assss!!
Yeah but they recorded it in E standard, this is played in D standard, way more heavier.
They really should have used the "I've been a rambler..." part somewhere on DM.
Saiker f n rights they should have!!!!@
They used a slightly altered version of it in the 2nd solo on "all nightmare long" same chords, just played differently
That opening riff is TASTY, would have preferred this than End Of The Line
The end result on the album is much better. Feels like a completely different song.
damn..metallica is THE best band out there. these guys are pretty talented... most of the other bands in the world today can't even compare to metallica's greatnes
That's pretty fast alternate picking from Kirk.
holy shit !? this is sooo awesome song !!!
this is my first song i ever seen played live and new for another one generation.
Hammett at 6.00 onwards is just amazing. Loving that solo.
i love robs light hearted way he recovers from that :L
this song in itself is good enough to be released on death magnetic... I think this song is badass...
I like seeing how they changed the intro for the end of the line etc
Did anyone else hear "Just play the fucking song, dickhole!" around 1:57?
eleihtg I think it's Lars saying "Take it from the top, ___!" something.
+Eric Whittle No it was "Just play the fucking song"
Funny as heck because James just smiles right after it xD
The main riff though
0:30 just love James's angry look
the second solo w/ wah in all nightmare long was also taken from the end of the solo here
That riff is killer!
Lars is on drugs so hard look inside his eyes but i love this high version of him he plays double basses when he's high.
1:39 right there
It’s called a music high.

The song is "Death is not the end". But on the album it's "The end of the line"
