As a single man with no kids I’ve been looking for the right pot roast recipe for about 6 months. I made this with my own twist a few days ago and it hit me right in the childhood. Thank you so much!!!!
This is the pot roast I remember my mom making. She’s 88 years old now and I’ve been trying to make dishes that will give her an appetite. I’m making this today while I watch my football games. I love your tip about making beef stock with Better Than Bouillon! Thank you for posting this and you have a new subscriber ❤
It looks delicious. Your voice is so soothing n calming. You could teach anyone a thing or two about cooking! You seem like the type of person that’s easy to understand! learning from you would really be a great priviledge!!!! ❤❤❤❤
Wow! Thank you very much for the kind words. I love cooking and sharing my recipes, cooking is easy if you enjoy what your making, that's what my mom always told me, in other words, cook with love. Thanks for watching. 🙂❤️❤️❤️
Donna I have been cooking for 50 yrs & never made such a delicious chuck roast. I also made peach cobbler for dessert. My family was more than satisfied with their Sunday dinner. They passed on the cobbler said they would have it in the am with coffee. 😊
@flavorstwisters Donna, I've just put this in oven. I had to tweak (husband has Type 2 Diabetes) so no flour but I do have powdered beef gelatin to thicken juices and it smells divine, even before pan searing!! I have onions to put in but no potatoes and saw that another subscriber says that next time he'll make hoagies (no potatoes) Am still not sure if I want to bother with carrots as he won't particularly care and I'm confident that onions only, will be amazing!! Will update after dinner! ❤
@flavorstwisters the kitchen smells incredible! Tasted the gravy after thickening with beef gelatin and we are blown away! 😋 Sliced a small onion and crushed a few small garlic cloves in it and am saving it to possibly add to a beef stew or soup!! Absolutely delicious! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe and your techniques! 😘
I had never made a pot roast before. I was nervous because this was for Christmas Day, but I watched several times and your voice and style were so soothing…I felt like I was in the kitchen with family! I made it Christmas morning and it was the BOMB!! My husband was so happy and proud☺️ Thank you so much for your recipes and your kindness! I’m making it again today! I’m a pro now thanks to you ❤😊
Thanks, this looks delicious. What a Sunday meal! My wife had back surgery and is a bit bed ridden. She is a great cook so it’s my turn to give it a try. I’ll put it in the oven tomorrow. The best part is there is everything I need already in the fridge and the cupboard. Wish me luck!!!
Hail To You, Queen of the Pot Roast!!! I knew that there was someone who could teach me how to make my Grandma's Sunday pot roast. Thank you Ms. Donna❤️
I’m making this for the second time, tonight. I wanted to rewatch to make sure I don’t mess anything up because it was the most perfect pot roast I have ever eaten, much less, made! Thank you, thank you thank you for this! Sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida.
That sounds like a classic and hearty dish! Oven baked chuck roast brings to mind those wonderful family dinners where everyone gathers around the table, enjoying a meal full of flavor and comfort. The slow cooking in the oven probably makes the meat so tender and juicy. It's great to see traditional cooking methods like this being kept alive. There's something so special about old school recipes, they're not just food, they're a piece of history and nostalgia on a plate!
I knew I would want to try your recipe as soon as you added the butter with the olive oil. And don't you love having the Better Than Boullion in the fridge? No lugging around cartons of broth. I am going to make this on Sunday. I already know I'm going to love it. My stomach is officially growing and it probably won't stop until I make this! Thanks for teaching me!
@@flavorstwisters Couldn't I just come to your house and have a bite of yours? 😊I'm going to make it, still need the mushrooms. You have a great teaching skill!
man i just spent 1/2 hour trying to find this. there are way too many pot roast vids on youtube. i finally found it searching my history. anyway this lady has made the best pot roast ever and everybody loved it, so i have to watch it before i do my pot roast again tomorrow. just follow her instructions and it will be perfect!
@@flavorstwisters i have you subbed and i still could not find this channel on my sub list. i thought i lost you. this is by far the best roast cooking instructions on youtube. i am going to bookmark this page, which i thot i did the last time i couldn't find it. i just bought a roast yest and will impress my GF tomorrow when i cook it. Yesssss, sir now that’s the old school way for sure, shucks they need smellavision.. my mouth is watering,Lord willing.. I’ll make this for my New Years dinner, got my mouth watering, we need more old school down home cooking from scratch like we use to do back in the days
I made this for the second time and omg it was even more amazing! I added a few more tweaks to it. I baked the the roast by itself at 390 degrees for 2 hrs and added a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce and 2 teaspoons of better than bouillon chicken flavor. After 2 hours I then added all the veggies and let cook for another 2 hrs. In the last hour if you want your sauce even thicker add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of cold water mix together and add to pot. So good thank you for this recipe ❤❤❤
I like your style, and you did a great job with the roast. You can be my chef any day. And you taught me something, for I thought that cooking chuck longer would make it tough. And I like how you played with that little scrap of meat. Your playfulness made the video all the more interesting. Thank you.
Now this is country cooking. If they ain't Browning that roast first I don't want it. That's how my grandmother did it. My mama did it and how I do it. Looks delicious.
Trying your recipe now unfortunately I don't have all the stuff you have but I have most. I will update with results as soon as its done. I made this today for myself and my husband and it came out great! The only change I would make next time is to reduce the amount of the season salt. It was salty but not in a bad way. My husband loves to salt his food and he loved it just the way I made it. Following your video was very easy since I don’t consider myself a great cook! Thanks so much for your recipe and it’s definitely a keeper for me😊🌷
Wonderful! I,m so glad you both enjoyed it. My husband always salts his food before tasting it, sometimes I have to tell him to taste it first so he won't over salt it. But I am sure glad yours came out fine. Thanks for trying my recipe. 🙂❤️
Let me say, haven't cooked this yet but there's one thing I appreciate. You cleaned and washed everything you were using. I loved that. I haveseen videos where the meat, especially chicken does not look clean. The chicken fat and scale is on the chicken. To me that's non edible. Cleaning and washing food is very necessary and healthy. So thank you so much for that.
You are so right, I alway clean my meat, you don't know who handled it before you brought It. That's þhe way my mom taught me. Thanks for the kind comment, and thanks for watching. 🙂❤️❤️
I bought a chuck roast today to make tomorrow. It is only 2.4 pounds, and cost $20! I can not believe how much they have gone up, but, I haven't made one in years. I started making pot roast when I was 12 yrs old, and it always turned out wonderful. ....I had never seared my roast before, though, and will try it tomorrow.... I had to watch to get a refresher course...lol....you make yours pretty much the way I did! God bless, and thank you!
It was the "OLE SCHOOL" that drew my attention to your chuck roast recipe. I made your chuck roast recipe for Thursday dinner for four of us. It turned out perfect and was soooooo delicious.
Its Easter Sunday 2024 and I'm making this recipe today (with a few of my culinary tweaks). Mine is in the iven right now and the house smells AMAZING. I hope mine turns out as wonderful as yours.❤
I came back to give this another shot. This time used the beef base instead of the canned broth wand I cooked it in a casserole dish and it turned out PERFECT. Thanks again!
Wow! I made your recipe yesterday. Not only was it delicious - my house never smelled so good. I wouldnt change a thing. Your video was perfect. Even the soothing music. Thanks for sharing your mom’s recipe.
My first time making pot roast and I followed this recipe & it was delicious! Paired with some sweet corn bread, the look on my brothers face when he took his first bite. Thank you for this recipe.
yeh, i never made one either, so this makes it look easy. and delicious. and im picking up a chuckroast on sale today so i checked here to see what's what. thanks donna.
OMGOODNESS! It takes me back. Watching your video made me miss my mom even more. She made her pot roast just like you. Im going to have to make one asap for my family. Its been a long time since i cooked one. Thanks for the video. Love your the sound of your voice.
Making a big roast dinner tonight. My family plus two others we are providing shelter to. I really wanted this dinner to pop for everyone because its been a struggle lately for all of us and nothing nourishes the soul quite like a home cooked meal with a lot of love in jt. Im going with your recipe tonight, not just because of how amazing the final product looks but because of the love I could feel emanating through the video. You strike me as a good soul and if you get this excited for this recipe I know its going to be good. This might sound odd but I get a Bob Ross vibe from you, the video itself was a joy to watch and the food looks fantastic. I know its gonna be a hit. God bless you.
Thank you! I did mine a more low carb way....left out the potatoes, dredged in keto flower, sired in coconut oil and 2 T of butter....but your total cooking time and seasonings were spot on.
I used this recipe for thanksgiving and I had never cooked a chunk roast before. It was a hit with my family and friends. Some of them don’t eat red meat but once they saw my roast they were rethinking their decision ❤❤
Ohhh my, I will be using alot of your recipes without a doubt I can tell you know what you're doing, My husband I are both retired disabled in different ways, We have had to live in an RV for quite some time.. Soon we will be moving further away from here to a nicer quieter town across from my daughter.. I can't wait to share these recipes with her and her family... The rest of our children 2 grown boy's 1 grandson and hopefully my oldest son and his new wife finally have a baby he did everything just right for himself, they all did though really. Thank you for so much for sharing!!! Look's quite tasty I must say!!! *God bless your home and family* ❤
This is my first time making it in the oven over the crockpot and omg this is the best I love how the gravy was thick not watery or to much cola in it like crockpot
Good for all celebrations. My young grand children love these kind of meat cooking especially with their friends during birthdays and other holidays season.
Been looking for a good roast for the oven. The crockpot had failed me a couple times. Let me just say melt in your mouth. The flavors was on point and perfect. My father in law and 10 month old could eat it. Everyone enjoyed this reciepe. Thank you.
I just had to post this. After two, not one but two epic fails at making this finally got it right using your video. Just made this tonight for dinner, and like KFC, it was finger licking good. My husband was so impressed that he could not stop eating it. Even said that it was better than his, and that says a lot coming from him. So thank you, thank you, thank you for making this video.
The best cooking tutorial I’ve ever seen auntie! I love the details you gave us and the recap at the end, so easy to follow along. Im making this for my work Thanksgiving potluck today, I know it’s gonna be so delicious thanks to you!
It's a wonder you do not kill someone w/all that salt. Lawry's Seasoning Salt Lipton Onion Soup Mix Better Than Bullion Dodge Chemical Company could use that amount of salt to make embalming fluid. People, like me who are diabetic would send their blood pressure off the chart if they were to use & eat foods w/all that salt. Why can't you do like our foremothers did & just use iodised salt & let well enough do? All these thousands of other seasoning weren't available back in the day & Black people didn't suffer w/diabetes & high blood pressure & such, w/all these seasonings, how can you taste the meat? Honestly!😵
I was missing the beef broth! Made my own with what I had which was celery, onion, bay leaf, black pepper and dried rosemary! Fingers crossed 🤭 yours look delish
I’m not much of a cook so after my husband and I retired and all our kids began their own families, he now does the cooking 😊 and I do the cleaning.

It's a wonder you do not kill someone w/all that salt.
Lawry's Seasoning Salt
Lipton Onion Soup Mix
Better Than Bullion
Dodge Chemical Company could use that amount of salt to make embalming fluid.
Honestly!😵
Made this for my family they loved it follow your recipe perfect lots of love Glory unto God thank you 💯♥️🙏🕊
My pleasure 😊

I'm so glad you enjoyed my recipe, and I'm sorry about your Mom and Dad, I lost my Mom in 2020, she was 97. This is her recipe, I get most of my cooking skills from her. Thanks for watching 🙂
@@flavorstwisters I also was taught how to cook from my Mom and Dad. I am the only son of my parents and have 3 older sister's. My wife use to thank my parents for raising me to know how to cook and clean better than all my sister's. At 48 I'm starting to go back to some of my childhood favorite, one of my favorites is my Dad's cornbread and cornbread dressing. As him I always use a cast iron skillet to bake my cornbread in. Thank you for sharing your videos and recipes. Gob Bless you so much!
This was always a Sunday dinner in my house a winner for sure. ❤❤❤❤❤
