He definitely has narcolepsy with kataplexies, when he collapses while laughing, I don’t know why he don’t have a diagnosis by now. But I don’t know since when the boy is treated by a doctor, but I think hospitals should be able to diagnose that, that diagnose and treat sleep disorders, they probably must Dona sleep study and other tests. But it’s not that difficult to diagnose. But they can be happy if it’s narcolepsy and not ME CFS, because for narcolepsy there exists treatment for me CFS not. But anyhow even narcolepsy can sadly make a big impact on his life and can result in a permanent disability or even care level needed! And not everybody can even go to school with that illness or than later study or work, it sadly can mean in some cases that the patient is never able to work.

Wow. Having narcolepsy myself I cannot believe that it has taken so long or so many doctors for Harry to be diagnosed. He has EDS,(excessive daytime sleepiness) sleep attacks, cataplexy, nighttime insomnia AND hypnagogic/hypnopompic hallucinations. It also seems he has trouble self regulating body temperature, which is another symptom of narcolepsy. I belong to a support group that has members from all over the world and people have reported showing symptoms at the age of 3. It’s a lot more common than people give it credit for. Especially in the UK, where a spike of children were diagnosed after the H1N1 flu vaccine in 2009 was linked to triggering an autoimmune response to people with a predisposed genetic disposition.

    • @SuperRuthie86
      @SuperRuthie86 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

My symptoms started in the womb literally. My mom was kept in hospital because I wouldn’t move and born 4 weeks late. I slept through most of my childhood and despite constant asking of doctors by mom I wasn’t diagnosed till I was in my 20s after falling asleep at the wheel. I was told it’s impossible to develop before the age of 5, not true in my opinion

Omfg I have a different condition, one called PANS (Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome), that was a result of the H1N1 vaccine!!! PANS can cause sleep problems, but not narcolepsy. I have insomnia for example. Sometimes I can’t sleep and have gone over 24 hours without sleep, other times I only need a few hours and am very hyper throughout the day (not because I’m trying to keep myself up, but rather because I have way too much energy), and sometimes I get over 9 hours of sleep (sometimes as much as 12) and I’m still exhausted!!! Right now I’m dealing with not being able to sleep at night, and falling asleep in the wee hours of the morning, as well as feeling exhausted and like I want to nap during the day when I’m home. It’s like something clicks in me, when I’m on my way home, I want to sleep, and when I get home, I’m utterly exhausted. But if I’m not home, I’ll be up and totally fine. I don’t get it, my sleep cycle is bonkers... I just want answers. Is it something else? Or is it just my PANS? Is there something I can do about it? Or do I just have to wait for this issue to pass? I have tried going to bed earlier, reading before bed... The usual stuff people recommend. I even tried melatonin. None of it works. My body just can’t physically get to sleep until I am overtired and it wants to. It’s been several months... it is affecting my life, and is rather frustrating. If I do need to just let it pass, I hope it passes quickly. With PANS, you can have flare ups of certain issues and such. Things like eating too much or not being hungry, or not being able to sleep properly. It’s because there is inflammation in the brain. Things can go away within days, or they can last months or even years. It’s just a matter of time... Until the next problem... 🙃

I was a sleep walker as a kid. My mum says that even as a baby, she had to constantly mentally stimulate me all day, or else I wouldn't sleep at all. As a teenager I never slept more than 4 hours, and finally at the age of 17 I was diagnosed with ADHD. I must say though, not sleeping because you don't feel tired, and not sleeping because (as with me now with a newborn) you're being constantly woken are 2 different beasts. If Kira or Meghan would life in a different country, the parents would probably just look the child’s door at night and don’t react at all to her screaming and either she is going to bed again and fall asleep or not. I mean in 3. world countries the parents need to work and be awake the day and sleep at night to overlife and have enough money for overlife and buy food, other way the child would end up homeless or mal nourished and could die. They would never put up with that, when their overlifing is in danger. I don’t say the should do that. But super nanny would just say to the parents to put the child into bed again each time they stand up without talking, cuddling or answering on any of her demands. And in most cases it works and than after a few nights the child got that they can’t put up that behavior anymore.

Same 3:44am now. I just don't have a good pattern and night sleeping is the worst. It is most probably a psychological problem but I haven't ventured into it yet. I do not drink coffee or tea, I stay away from sweet stuff before bedtime but nothing helps and sleeping pills are just gross and often take hours before it kicks in, leaving me feel awful the next day.

Why aren’t relatives or friends helping Rachel? Take Megan for the night or go there and take Rachel’s position on the door. Time is right and it won’t interfere with work or family, have a nap later. But give Rachel some unbroken sleep. I’ve never been good at getting to sleep, staying asleep and getting quality sleep so I know how it feels to be so sleep deprived. A good week is more nights I’ve slept some hours instead of none at all.
I’m the one who goes to do the night shift so others can sleep.

It's well known that the British National Health is stretched beyond capacity and barely able to cope (pre-pandemic). With that being said, these parents are given a single meeting, a list of instructions, and left alone to cope with this and create complete change on their own. That's just wrong. If these parents had a weekly home visit and ongoing support while they were going through the program, the difference would be absolute. Leaving these already sleep-deprived, stressed and emotionally exhausted parents to cope and deal with this on their own is, in and of itself, a form of professional neglect and abuse by the British Social and Health Care System.

My daughter is now 19, she would sleep all day and be up all night common in babies but it never stopped diagnosed at 6 months old with Night Terrors (rare in infants) when she would sleep an hour or 2 a night. By 1 she was given an diagnosis of Circadian Rhythm Disorder ( brain unable to tell day/night our inner clock) by 2 she could no longer stay awake most of a day. And she was Sleepwalking still screaming from night Terrors. By 4 she started to collapse when startled or emotion of any kind This has continued for Years no meds helped "Children don't get these issues "
She now takes the proper medications because finally someone would look at a child for real.
she was born with them to date she has:
    Narcolepsy
    Cataplexy
    Circadian Rhythm Disorder
Night Terrors ( still on occasion)
    Sleepwalking
    She has seizures as well
After all this she has graduated high school with her Social Justice Certificate and runs her own business.

I'm not a sleep expert nor a child expert but I am the eldest of 8. In my experience, having your young ones, especially ages 2-10 sleep with you every night or get them into the routine of sleeping in your bed with you if they wake up, then you will have a lot of issues trying to get them to sleep on their own in their own bed because they can expect to sleep in mom and dads bed everynight

@kyarahburchell4578 I studied early childhood but at the end I am only a mom of four and my children slept in their own beds in their room when they were 1,5 or 2 years old. Althought they all came in our bedroom after midnight between 2 and 5 am. Often we didn't recognize it. When they were 5 or 5,5 years old that stopped by itself. They never came anymore by themselves and slept the whole night in their room. It is about the brain 🧠 development, there will be a point when they all are able to sleep through the night without interruption. 😴

Ive had3sleep studies and the first one I never slept at all and I do have nights, where I dont sleep and its debilitating.Your exhausted in the daytime and as, a child I hated the term overtired but thats what I was. Ive now been on sleeping pills for many years and they work ok then stop working as they have done now and I woke at2am so am going on 2hrs sleep. It did affect my education and Ive done all the sleep 'hygiene' they call it ensureing a dark cool room but not cold. I'm awaiting a drs appt to switch my sleeping pills as on current ones2&1/2yrs and havent worked well for6mths. Sleeping is under rated and its so important. I can take1-3hrs to fall asleep with medication.

Look into second sleep. It seems to have been normal in the middle ages.

@@kimpulsipher647 wow I will as never heard of it. My sleeping at the moment with sleeping pills is still bad. I get around3hrs every2days but in that3hours iwake at least twice so it's not a full3hrs but broken up. I am constantly sleep deprived and it affects all aspects of life including irritability and unable to focus.

@FlyingMonkies325 yep now and have been for well over2yrs now and no sleeping pill works as had them all. My friend once said that she had had a night like me as had taken her over25minutes to fall asleep, as it normally took her legs than 10 minutes to be asleep, and once asleep was out alnight and how awfull it must be for me.
