Chip Kelly left Oregon for two reasons: 1. He wanted to be a NFL coach. 2. He suspected, which happened, that the NCAA waould ban him from coaching for two years. Hius recruiting violation at Oregon cost Oregon some scholarships and a lot of official visits. It hurt Helfrich who followed him.
This all sounds right. I would put UCLA in the same tier as Michigan State, and Texas A&M would have been here 10 years ago before Johnny Manziel changed the program ceiling and their expectations/cash flow completely
I've been watching Duck football for over 50 years and every coach that leaves Oregon when they're winning, takes with them "The Green Grass Curse". Since Rich Brooks, after a losing career, but a winning season took the Curse to the NFL and then some mediocre coaching job where he finished a losing career. Skip Kelly, Scott Frost, Willie Taggert, Mario Cristobal and most recently Kenny Dillingham. Look at all the coaches that have left and just ... imagine if you will that the trip after leaving the Oregon Coaching staff leads into "The Twilight Zone". (evil cackling in the background)
Scott Frost had an undefeated season at UCF after leaving. Dillingham has ASU competitive and headed in the right direction coming off the Herm disaster. Also, of course coaches do well at Oregon they have Phil Knight's slave labor money to rely on.
Chip took over after Mike Bellotti became A.D. Some of the magic Mike built, because once they leave, the magic stayed, except for Mark Helfrich which makes me cry even mentioning his name.

Don't be surprised when your not winning games bc you've hired a new coach and he needs time to build the team the way he wants. Look I know everyone wants a dan Lanning story where the guy before him left a program that was already built to win and just so happens to stumble across the perfect qb for his team.
