- this has been a cover of miles davis' "freddie freeloader," originally composed and released in 1959 on his album "kind of blue." i didn't include the photograph of the disc itself in this upload, as i found it kind of redundant. the label is the exact same as the cover. i will include it in longer uploads.
the kings of modesty wasn't what i was expecting when i popped it into my cd player. upon picking it up, i didn't pay the insert much attention, simply assuming i would be getting ska out of a band called "TWO TONE" shoes. i was listening to a lot of third wave ska Punk at the time (think operation ivy, mustard plug, & fishbone, though fishbone is so much more than ska punk and are a very underappreciated band in my opinion), so i was excited to hear what might have been influenced from the earlier movement. ska wasn't what i got, but i don't find what "the kings of modesty" delivers to be disappointing.
this album appears to be a highschool pet project, and as such, there isn't anything outside of the insert to be found about it. however, it would seem as though the band members continued carving musical careers for themselves afterwards. at least this is fact so long as these are the same folks listed in the insert, lol. i struggle with being 100% sure on my face matches.
jari salminen i think has carved the biggest path for himself. he has drummed with loads of bands and solo artists, and continues to do so based out of helsinki. i don't personally recognize any of the names on his website, but there's a LOT listed, so i think it's safe to say he's in high demand! check out his website here: [www.jaridrumme...]. there are links to his instagram, youtube, and spotify pages at the bottom of the website.
simon abbott has taken a turn towards composition, though i don't think he identifies with that label if this article i found rings true [12thnight.ca/2...]. now based in edmonton, abbott seems to be doing freelance work and productions in musical theatre with the grindstone theatre society [www.grindstone...]. musical theatre really isn't my thing, but had i known about this group when i was still living in edmonton, i probably would've sought out a show or two.
i believe john mckinnon is still playing bass in ontario, now with the labyrinth ensemble [www.labyrintho...]. he has an instagram (@johnmckinnonmusic) And a youtube channel [ / @johnmckinnon ] but he hasn't been active on this account for three years.
as far as i can tell (this article is a decade old and the link to his website returns an error 404), david rubel continues to play saxophone and leads his own quartet, the "david rubel quartet." he was featured in a wordpress article [torontosaxopho...] and there are a handful of other articles about him as well, but everything seems to be wrapped up in this singular link. he has social media accounts, but they are private, so i won't be plugging them. you can listen to more of his work here on youtube [ / @davidrubel1142 ]!
