You'll be happy to know Suga walked through that door after the last concert on his solo tour before going in the military. Signaling he is ok. Everyone cried.
The amygdala is the part of your brain that stores your memories. His mom did had problems with her heart, his father had liver cancer and he had an accident with a scooter. He was a delivery guy during his trainee days (for BTS) to pay for his education (school) costs and he had a severe shoulder injury because of it. He never talked about it back then because he was afraid to get kicked out and he just kept going despite of the pain . He only had surgery to his shoulder a couple of years ago. That's also why he is doing an alternative military service as a social worker instead of the regular military service. I don't think he wanted to harm himself (I think he once stated that), but it represents more his menthal scars that he had (remember the scar he had in Daechwita and in Haegeum - it's a triology). The scar represents morre the mental suffering that scarred him)...
He did think about it, he had social anxiety and once it went to the point he was unable to go on stage for a concert in Japan. He later wrote a letter to the fans explaining what happened and how regretful he was for not being able to attend. And he talks more about it in his song The Last which i recommend, there is no MV but there are lyrics video. If you thought Amygdala deep and raw wait to listen to that one : th-cam.com/video/sezHEFJ3hxE/w-d-xo.html
The bad things that the amygdala processes (emotional memory) end up being a protective memory: If you were stung by a bee, the amygdala gives you the feeling of fear because of the memory of the bad symptoms you felt and this fear protects you against another sting. The shape of the brain's amydala resembles the shape of an almond and that's why we see flashes of Suga sitting there eating almonds, super calm, watching the whole process happen. The motorcycle accident occurred in 2012, when BTS was still training and BIG HIT was on the verge of bankruptcy, and he helped as a delivery boy. He lied saying he fell down the stairs and this gave him chronic pain made worse by the intense choreography. It was only operated in 2020. About his parents, these are real facts. Your parents are well and healthy today. Your shoulder is treated. The end of the video is frustrating, as he can't open the door and get out. We will only understand him after seeing the end of the live show in Seoul, when he leaves through that same door, showing us how he overcame his difficult past. It was exciting. th-cam.com/users/shorts7zdHhMimthU?feature=share (short vídeo)
Suga suffered a dislocated shoulder after a hit and run. He performed with chronic pain for over 8 years. And his parents' health issues. And fighting poverty. And the group getting a lot of social media hate. And a close friend in jail on drug charges. And the industry looking down on them. I don't know how he survived, except to see how much love and support he gets from the other members.
The songs DAECHWITA, HAEGEUM and AMYGDALA (and their respective MVs) make up the trilogy that represents Suga's alter ego. They are part of the same universe and tell of the struggles between their inner demons and other personas. They are simply incredible, revealing, deeply symbolic and meaningful. This is more of an autobiographical song, a story of Suga's life, especially during his years of struggle. Everything in this song really happened, even his mother's heart surgery (making him question whether it was right for him to be born) and his father's liver cancer. But now his parents are fine. Suga was in a car accident while making deliveries on his scooter during his trainee days before BTS's debut, where his shoulder was torn. He said he remembers seeing the tire next to his head. He never told Big Hit about the accident, fearing he would be cut from BTS and their debut. He worked for years with extreme pain in his shoulder, until 2020, when he had shoulder surgery. In some live performances, you may see him not moving his left side, lifting his arm, or rubbing his left shoulder area. The pills you see him taking in the MV are probably painkillers, but he used to take cortisone shots before performances so he could dance. The pain he endured is heartbreaking! And that's why he's not in the military, but rather doing military service through the social service department. Amygdala (ah-mig-dah-lah) is the part of your brain that stores your traumatic memories. He's the size and shape of an almond, so you see him eating almonds in the MV. He needs his amygdala to save him from all his painful memories, asking his own brain to help him process everything he's been through, but also begging him to forget some of the things that still torment him. Oh, during the last show of his D-Day tour in Seoul, he managed to get through the door. This trauma will always be a part of him, but now he has overcome it and can move on because our AGUST D, (SUGA, MIN YOONGI) is healthy now! He knows he is not alone in this world living with depression, social anxiety and OCD. And when he openly exposes his emotional and mental baggage for the world to see, he shows us that we're all in this together. His words and lyrics offer understanding and acceptance to those who feel marginalized and stigmatized by the true anguish they feel. Suga is basically saying that it's okay to not be okay, but that we should seek help and have the chance to be our best selves. To do this, we must love each other! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
The fact that Suga can talk about an empathize with others going through the same issues is the reason he is my bias. Your post is beautifully stated. Thank you. I don’t watch this video too often because I saw my way through it every time, but it speaks to my heart in my life.
The song hit me hard, but the visuals of the MV, crushed me and left me sobbing. The Yoongi in the dark room--trapped in his own mind--struggling to reach the door, but the floor tilts intensifying the difficulty, leaving him exhausted. It is a perfect representation of depression.
Amygdala is Latin for this portion of the brain. It can't be turned off and is flight/fight. It will mess you up. Love Suga for his study into these things and his courage to show us his tender underside. Thanks for the reaction, 💜
As you already know about Amygdala, the video itself talks about pain and trauma. You see repeated bad dreams, stuck in a room and hard to get out. It shows that it is not easy to get free from trauma. As you try to get out, it feels that the road become steep and harder. As he cut himself and make a scar is just a symbol. He said it in shooting sketch (behind the scene) that we make our own scars depend on how we perceive and process things.
*Suga aka Agust D's Trilogy:* Agust D - Daechwita (turn on CC's) - th-cam.com/video/qGjAWJ2zWWI/w-d-xo.html Agust D - Haegeum (turn on CC's) - th-cam.com/video/iy9qZR_OGa0/w-d-xo.html Agust D - Amygdala (turn on CC's) - th-cam.com/video/IX1dkYoLHVs/w-d-xo.html *Meanings for the song titles* *Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.) *Haegeum* - has two meanings. The first, it's a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban, or release what is forbidden. *Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The Amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future.
Yoongi is such a beautifully deep person and truly a musical genius. We are so lucky that he chooses to be so vulnerable with us like this and expose the saddest parts of his life. I really hate that people perceive him as cold or uncaring. To me, he seems quite the opposite. He's just an introvert, but he very obviously feels so deeply.
So glad you enjoyed! Yoongie/agustD talks about his history with depression/suicical thoughts/actions in a few of his songs. One of my personal favorites is The Last. If you react to it, please read the comments because theres probably ARMY who will give more context and explain any cultural barriers. Theres also many "explained by a korean/army" videos that will help you to better understand just about any BTS song, especially songs like Spring Day, Ddang, Baepsae or Ampanman which have many cultural or political references💜
The Amygdala is the part of the brain that holds on to trauma...even when you were too young to remember....He was born in 93 (memory from the womb) ...then his mom had the medical issue
All that all happened except the box cutter that represents his self destructive tendencies. When he was working on THAT THAT for PSY, PSY said he really worried about Suga sho gets so involved in his work he forgets to eat or sleep. Nowdays Suga handles his OCD better and when he talked about going into the mountains for a couple of days to work on his album he realised he had not been looking after himself so checked himself straight into hospital to be checked over. Suga said he cried alot writting AMYGDALA but the process was cathartic for him. People misunderstand how really strong Suga is. Yes he might have openly discussed having problems in the past with sever depression, OCD and social anxiety but he has continually confronted and dealt with his issues. He has even taken electives whilst doing his degrees and Masters covering psychology, and even on councilling. At his last concert before enlisting Suga walked through the white door.....

omg thanks for explaining that, now I feel like a dummy for not catching that amygdala is a part of the brain lol

I am not going to say for sure or not he wanted to harm himself in the past but in his song The Last basically implied during the beep….
