      I’ll throw my hat in for dub. Even just going through the East Blue arc, it’s 61 episodes. Sitting down for 1000+ episodes where you have to pay full attention to subs to the long winded way Shonens tell stories can wear you down. You can do the dishes or edit other videos while watching the dub. The dub voice actors are great too.

    • @euclides9156
      @euclides9156 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chapdoesstuff Yes, when you have great voice actors and a translation team with excellence I agree with you. But at least here in Brazil the translators have this mania to torn the meanings and add language maneirisms or different accents that destroys the original meaning or turn the characters silly. Imagine in US pointview you put a character with strong county accent. So, here in Brazil we strognly recommend you watch movies, series or animes with original audio with subs.

    There are two things in the manga that prevent Zoro from steamrolling every encounter the crew has
    - regularly being injured from previous battles.
    - getting there late - like many powerful anime fighters, he has infamously bad sense of direction (you can see some signs in the previous episodes. Oda once joked, that Zoro should have died some time ago, but his soul can't find the way to the afterlife.)

    One thing not many people realise... Garp loves Luffy, it's his dear grandkid. Garp did see a lot of things on his life. He knows Luffy's dreams, will and determination. He knows Luffy has what it takes. But Garp is the one who executed the Pirate King. He knows what is at the end of that journey. He wished for Luffy to become a marine so that future never happens. But when he realised Luffy won't ever back off (backed by Koby's words), he decided to go after Luffy all out. If Luffy can survive his pursuit and overcome that, then hopefully he is strong enough to survive as a pirate longer.

    • @r00ni37
      @r00ni37 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I would also like to add that the encounter with Garp could be a set up of how Luffy will want/need to get stronger in the future arcs, since his enemies wont get weaker

      Agreed! The writing of each episode, each one gradually introducing elements of the OP world was well done. By episode 8, the interested casual viewer is accepting of similar but very different world (the mix of modern and old, unusual land formations in the ocean, a world of vast oceanic expanses), power granting fruits (Luffy and Buggy), animal-people (Merry, Arlong and crew), possibilities of supernatural powers (Shanks influencing the sea monster, Kuro's super speed, Garp's strength). It prepares the viewer for the more...imaginative elements in following arcs. All with actors who make the characters fun, relatable and a really fun show to watch!

      (Though I try to keep it vague)
      I always assumed it was where Oda was leading with it to close the montage,, until he didn't.
      Loved the scene, but instead of a greatest hits, I'd cut to a promise, then a journey scene that shows the crew's potential and her faith in them, then another promise or two, and repeat. Close with hers, then cut to scenes of the crew taking care of her. As much of a "farewell" as it should be a "you'll be okay" and an "I lived my dream". We end in present day, the crew tearfully thanking her, her apologising, the scene we got in the original, the audience a wreck, y'know the usual.
      I just want her there, even if she's not yet strong enough to manifest, she was present and she was a committed as any other crewmate. As it stands, we don't actually know where she committed herself to the crew, but this would be been so perfect to me

      Honestly, for me the live action hit harder than the anime, not as hard as the manga though. I just can’t with all the extended fighting in the anime. It cuts the flow of the story and bores me to sleep.
      I actually struggled staying awake for the anime whenever fighting took more than an episode or two. I originally binged it in batches with a friend and had to start reading the manga (best choice ever) along our watch through so I wouldn’t miss anything important while snoozing during the fight episodes. 😂

      Yeah, I think they did every arc better than the anime/manga except Arlong park. I still give it an 8/10 even tho I really hate how they handled Arlong Park which is the most important arc in the eastblue saga. Everything feels rushed and Luffy vs Arlong is super underwhelming. Maybe those prosthetics makes him harder to move because it's just Luffy punching Arlong and Arlong punching him back.

      I preferred the character journeys for Arlong Park in the manga/anime. I wish they kept the thing about Coco Village actually knowing about Nami's plan, but I understand why they changed it. It still works.
      Agree about Syrup Village! The anime was funnier, but the haunted house/slasher theme of the live action was so much fun. I wish they gave Usopp more to do in his own intro arc, though.

    If you're still debating sub vs dub, let me make it easy: go with the sub. The Japanese voice actors are on another level. People don't just like them; they swear by them. A scene that might barely move you in the dub can bring you to tears in the sub. Given how emotionally invested you get while watching, you'd be missing out big time by going with the dub. And also honestly, subbed videos pull more views. Go sub, you won't regret it and will be praising the VA's all the way through, I'm saying that passionately because I know it's the best way to enjoy One piece, I started the anime watching dub and realize my mistake once I made the switch and went back to watch everything in sub and it was a totally different experience in term of emotions and humor

    As someone who caught up to the anime recently I gotta say…..seeing the barrel scene again where they all state their dreams got me….it’s such a damn good journey and I can’t wait for you to experience the anime. You won’t regret it :)

    if this helps, i've noticed that a lot of one piece reactors use the sub version and crop to show only the subtitles so that the viewers know what part you're watching without needing to see or hear it as often. they usually flip and put a filter or something over the rest of the video and make it disappear more often than not so not to get struck down by toei. In the end, do whatever works for you! OP fans will show up either way lol
