Hilarious to see the series change artstyles with each sequel, starting as a typical oldschool sprite look, then getting really anime in 2. and swinging in the opposite direction with western cartoon visuals in 3.
This may sound like a weird crossover but picture Kid Niki collaborate with Hiryu from Strider in a separate adventure where the plot pairs up villains Grandmaster Meio and Stone Wizard starting world domination. I'd be sold.
I remember being obsessed with the arcade game as a kid, and went to Kiddie City with my mom to get the NES version for my bday. I played the hell out of it even though I was disappointed the graphics took a hit. Looking back, I think the NES version looks and especially plays as close as possible for the system.
Ooh. The c64 version is a shocker. Even earlier on in the machine's life there were some great platform ports like Peter Pack Rat and Rastan. Check out Mayhem in Monsterland for the proof.
Seeing Kaiketsu Yamcha 3 reminds me of this chinese bootleg version of the game, they edited the character sprite to look like Mario... I forget what they called it like 'Mario Ninja 3' or some such BS... Definitely a fun series though, wish they'd crank out an HD update/sequel if that's even possible?
i used to play the arcade version as a kid at the electronic palace and it was hard as shit!!!! i was only like 7 after all but i remember that game being so goddamn hard!!!!!!
Used to play the arcade original at my local laundry mat as a kid, and recently bought it on Switch. Definitely some great memories and I still love the game. Seeing this video makes me wished I could have played the Gameboy one as a kid... I’m sure I would have loved it if it was localized. Part 3 looked really fun and seemed to have some neat ideas. His complete style and weapon change definitely threw me off. 90s Tommy/Duncan ponytail... hahaha. The later games did look like they could have used a little more polish, and its a shame they never continued. Guess I’ll just have to be happy with the original on my Switch. Which is in Japanese by the way, if anybody is wondering. Theres no option for the English version.
while the arcade version is good, it has a discrete sound system which featured a drum which played along with the music, which is being currently integrated onto MAME at the moment.
There was always something so oddly satisfying about hitting the baddies with that spinning blade. The Commdore 64 version was embarrassingly bad--the system was capable of much more than that, graphically. Very lazy, crappy-looking port.
The c64 version was so bad it was discontinued after numerous returns (back when you could return software). What ever happened to Quicksliver software; they made some of the crappiest ports ever for the c64. Did they ever work in the industry again?
_"The c64 version was so bad it was discontinued after numerous returns"_ Sure is crappy. Looks like something you'd see on a VIC-20. At least that would have been an excuse if that was the case.
After arcade, NES.. Nothing else is close. I don't understand people who though C64 was as powerful as nes.. this video is a perfect example of how superior the nes was at handling smooth animated characters.

I remember I loved this Arcade game. The summer of 1988
I really like how much they added in the Gameboy version

Kid Niki 3 looks like a melange of elements from SMB 2, SMB 3, Super Mario World, Mega Man, and Duck Tales.
I love this game so much I put the background music as my ring tone for my phone

Might get the arcade version since it was released on Switch
Can you imagine the disappointment thinking your commodore 64 version was going to be the same as the arcade?
17:50 Mario 14
Pac-Man Entertainment aHahahahha! I remember that!
Mario 16 and Mario 14 (Kaiketsu Yanchanmaru II & III)
That last Famicom version looks great. I want to try it.
Yo cada vez veo un niño distinto :^7
That's What I was Thinking from the Start! That is Goku with a Sword!
The Game Boy game actually seems pretty great.
I was so upset when the Kung- Fu Master arcade game was switched to this game. It was the KFM cabinet, with motherboard switched for this game.

In my opinion Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 3 has best music.
Our avatars should be friends.
9 times out of 10 the arcade version is the best.

Awesome game! I have the NES version, and it's a LOT of fun to play!
wow 64 version looks so shoddy for a machine that could do so much better

I remember this game
This game was harder than a fossilized turd. I couldn't even beat it with a Game Genie.
First time I see this game.
lol! The C64 version was absolute shit!
richard1972r GARBAGE
