I love this - it is so valuable to see women featured prominently in Shakespeare's works. The stories can be give new life when viewed through a different lens.
Contrary to the other comments on this video, I think it’s a interesting take on the changes in status quo that have taken place in this space the last 4 centuries
I think the two key takeaways. Recent years royal Shakespeare productions have buried (unintentionally) several productions that women have taken the lead in, in ways that could be described no other way but iconic. I'm happy csf is going this route and has a performer that is capable enough to handle it (it's a toughy for most actors). I think placing it in modern day makes a huge difference as well, but I need to see how well that's handled first person to be sure.

I fully understand this sentiment. For the past seven years as I led the charge in my second country Belize 🇧🇿 to coordinate a musical band and show- Some of my greatest Opposition and even SABOTAGE came from some males. Yes there were some who were very supportive but others were NOT. Even some of the public support was stymied by the fact that the typical male was NOT at the helm.

Hamlet, unfortunately, is relatable to anyone who was/is haunted by the past and a deer in headlights at the thought of the future. It's definitely valuable to have a woman play it. That being said, the expectations on men and their success as well as some largely negative personality traits which men seem to express more often on average makes Hamlet a profoundly masculine character.
Some feminists thing that being a woman is just being a better version of men, I think this was the same general idea of "let's make this woman powerfull by making her act like a man," the thing is though, women have their own strengths, completely separate from men's strengths.
None of this was new to me, I really thought she had a chance to do something original with such a title but ended up being the same annoying thing. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with what she’s saying, is just that I believe it all was a given and could be summarised in one introductory sentence leaving space for some actual educational content, especially since there’s not too many literature ted talks.
