At the end of 1971 and early 1972 I worked in a nearly deserted 7-11 grocery store in the edge of town working the 3-11P.M. shift. It was dead dark outside and bright inside. With nearly no customers all shift I listened to the radio and anxiously await the birth of our first child. This song played over and over and I loved it. Then January 28, 1972 our Son was born and I will never hear this song without remembering those long nights waiting for my first born to arrive and the joy when I got the call to rush to the hospital. 49 years later it still has the same affect on me.
The day the music died…February 3d, 1959 in a cold, lonely cornfield near Clear Lake, Iowa. Saddest day ever for music. Thanks for this very beautiful tribute. Just wonderful.
Yeah... I wonder how many listeners here (or even Anne??) actually know much about that story. I mean, I wasn't born yet, but... have taken in the story in various tellings... but I could easily imagine someone having missed it.
Perfect. The song is about death of three musicians in 1959 and you managed to keep the voice clean and sad. Not like Madona whoh turned the song into a happy disco. The best cover I have seen so far.
It's sad at the start, but wistful at the end. This song came out when I was kid in elementary school, and even at that age, we parsed the meaning endlessly. Somewhere, I have a 1972 newspaper article that my mother cut out that interpreted on an adult level. The adults got more of it than we did, but we kept parsing all the way through high school and got more and more.
Beginning on December 19, 1971, this became my favorite song. I heard it on the radio driving back & forth to visit my then girlfriend. I remember it well since it was my first day back home from Vietnam.
I cannot listen to this song as you sing it, without being incredibly moved. I cry each time. It just so touches my 65 yr old passions so sweetly. It reminds me that we're in a spiritual battle. Thank you.

Damn I fell in love with this song, I was the shy kid In class but I met my girlfriend on math competition and life was great, I started listening to buddy holly and ritchie valens alnd a lot of other 50s RnR, only song that stuck out was this one, I started listening to it becouse the lyrics and it played on the radio thru my first kiss. We dont see each other no more. 50's Rock and Roll feals more dead than ever. They dont spin this record anymore. I said goodbye to my american pie along time ago. But these 8 minutes like the first time hearing this song. Thank you from my heart and soul.
I have listened to ten thousand covers of this classic in the last fifty years and this, THIS is the very first time I have heard one better than the original and one of the rare few that wasn't absolutely wretched. This is perhaps the most over sung far over covered song in American music history and you have done something I don't think anyone has ever done. You've created with your vocal magic my hearing it for the first time ever, all over again! Thank you for bringing back a long dead memory only even better.
Absolutely riveting. This pop song is one of the few that deserves to be called poetry. Layers and layers of meaning, depths to be plumbed... And you have given us layers and layers, too. I've never heard an interpretation of 'American Pie' that so ably emphasizes the poetic nature of the lyrics. You gave us soft and fragile vocals; what we usually get in covers is more assertive, more forceful, even happy, but all of that runs counter to the poem itself, which is bewildered, full of loss and defeat. In short, yours is the truest interpretation I've ever heard.
I enjoy your videos that showcase your musical skills. That said, your voice is the first thing I liked about you and videos like this really shows the world how beautiful it is!!
This is a real masterpiece. So much analysis here to be had. Really love the arrangement, seems more beautiful than the rather sad original, just a flicker of upbeat without overdoing it. Also the breathing skills required to pull off singing the verses in 1 take, something only a trained vocalist can pull off. They should be using this clip to showcase the technique in schools. Really liked this one, solid all round production.
I've always considered "American Pie" to be my favorite song of all time. You did a really nice cover. I think if you covered McLean's iconic "Vincent" (Starry, Starry Night), it would turn out very well. Heartburn? No thank you! Reburn? Yes please! ☺️😍
Oh WOW. This is just so unexpected and so beautiful. You've given the song a whole new dimension. Love it. Honestly, you must send this clip to Don McClean. I know he encourages young talent, and seriously, you are one of the best young acts in the world today. He would love your work.

I thought it would take away the frustration present throughout it, the overtones of lament, the undertones of anger... It's gentler, more passive aggressive, and sadder than what McLean arranged, and I think it's brilliant. Bravo, my friend. Bravo 👏❤
Thank you for this beautiful rendition of a great song. I've been listening it occasionally through the years, and I usually do something else while listening to music, but for this one, I lay still and completely set my attention to the song, throughoutly enjoying it
I didn’t expect to be blessed today but then I got this notification.. *Since I found your channel I haven’t heard anyone sing better than your covers*
OHG, Anne your talent is unbelievalble! AN entire acapella choir in one really gorgeous young woman! You are awesome. Can't wait to hear more from you. A star is born!
I have listened to this song dozens of times and recommended it to many of my friends as the pinnacle of acapella singing. I also want to congratulate you and wish you much success in recording many more such wonderful songs in the future.
Yes! Finally a more recent video! Anne I love your work! You make my life happier Everytime when I hear your work. I love Acapella! I'm not that great at it but I try. Hopefully I'll think about creating a channel soon. Keep singing Anne. 🤗 Thank you for making me happy, even if it's just for the moment. It means a lot.
Just one person's opinion. An old person (let's just say that I've been collecting Social Security for 2 decades +). For me, the absolute best cover of this song ever (at least that I've heard).
I love that every time that song is played the song is reborn again :) Music never dies, it only changes form And lives on in our hearts Shared from one beautiful heart to the next. ... carry on
This type of content is one of the most beautiful things of the Information Age. A young singer/actress expressing herself in an original way. We get to directly support her. She is not crushed under the weight of a record company, an entourage, or supporting band. The covers are often as good or better than the original artist’s efforts. Original content written by the artist. I love harmony and a story. No weird custumology, cursing, or other affected content. Selfishly, I hope Ms Reburn never signs a big contract. Kudos
It turned out even more amazing than I would've ever imagined. Finding and supporting you, along with befriending you has been one of the greatest achievements of my life. Words cannot express how much I absolutely love this and all the rest of your work. This song specifically has always meant the world to me, my grandmother used to sing it to me when I was very little and I've loved it ever since, it's one of the greatest songs I've ever heard, and your version honestly just lights up my heart.
WOW. I can _not_ even try to imagine the amount of _effort_ that was required to make this video. >.< Your creativity & _passion_ for the art *definitely* shows 😊 (TY) (And I feel so _guilty_ , enjoying it so ... so effortlessly 🤔) ingenious 😊
This vid got banned for like 6 months. Considering she performed all parts, and it's one of the best, it felt especially unfair. So yes, be glad this is out in the world.
This is one of the best voices I've heard so far. Makes so calm and relax just listening to her. Love it! Those who disliked this video must be jealous.
Not sure if it has been said here, but this song was about the death of Buddy Holly, who was known as the Jester. The King was most likely Elvis Presley. Buddy Holly died in a plane crash and Don MclLean could not understand why God would take someone who pleased many with his music. When you know that back story it is hard to sing it without choking up at the immense sadness that inspired this great work of art. So well done to Anne for doing this cover version.
Graeme Stickings The start and end are about that, but there’s so much more. The Quartet are the Beatles. Jack Flash is Mick Jagger. The girl who sang the blues is Janis Joppelin.
If you pull out of the driveway at the surf ballroom and turn left, away from the airport, you will follow the shore of Clear Lake. There is what appears to be a levey along the road. Every time I hear this song I remember taking that drive
Wow. What a great rendition of this classic song. I have a copy of it, but, it is an edited version. I knew there was a longer version that even the radio station I used to listen to wouldn’t play due to its length. Thank you for letting me finally here all the verses. You made this 52 year old very happy. The only thing that would’ve made it better was if I had seen this video when you published it, which happened to be my birthday. TH-cam strikes again. I’m definitely going to subscribe as soon as I finish this comment.
Kudos. What drew me is your use of the songs of my youth. The hundreds of times that I listened to many of these artists and their work over the years. Back when MTV was just that, when cell phones weighed eight pounds and the internet was a mad idea of a few 'scientists'. When I could party all night, catch a catnap and work all afternoon. Hours entertained as I drove the long miles between the city and my little hometown. That 67' Chevy pickup, my first, that was classier than any porsch to my young mind. The old 70' Nova, worn out GT 50's jacked up in back and the flaming broadsword I hand painted on the hood to make it 'unique' in my high school parking lot. The long, dark hours when the world seems overwhelming and this song battled with Steppenwolf on my cassette player. Thank you.
Incredible - the editing and mixing for this level of mastery must boggle the mind. Thank you. Not only a favourite song, but presented with such amazing artistry it brings tears.
Esa canción casi no me gusta y sin embargo, ¡tu versión me ha más que encantado, fascinado!😍 Gracias por tu excelente trabajo musical que realizas con pasión y amor
Love those tempo changes. The complete video: simple and complex at once. This is exhibit #1 for how to be creative without sacrificing anything from the original.
That was simply beautiful. Thank you. I'm making that weird face where you don't know whether to smile or weep. Great art often has that impact on a person.
Your voice reminds me of other moments in my life when I was totally blown away by someone's talent. You're an inspiration my dear. Thanks for sharing!
This is just beautiful! It’s one of the greatest songs ever written; and this is now one of my favourite versions. Another great Don McLean song to cover this way, would be ‘Empty Chairs; it’s an achingly beautiful number, which might not be as well known as ‘American Pie’, or ‘Vincent’- another song that would be great to cover; but I think it’s as good as both of them, and one of the most beautiful songs ever written. ‘Empty Chairs’ was a major inspiration for the song ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’, according Lori Lieberman; who was both the first person to release a version of the song, and is credited as one of the writers; she claims to have got the inspiration for the lyrics, while attending a Don McLean show, and seeing him playing ‘Empty Chairs’.
One of the positives, if the only positive, of the current pandemic has been discovering the talents of others that otherwise wouldn't have been seen. That was a beautiful arrangement, Anne. And a great video as well! ... "The Day The Music Died" is February 3, 1959, when Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash after a concert. McLean wrote the song from his memories of the event ("Dedicated to Buddy Holly" was printed on the back of the album cover). McLean was a 13-year-old paperboy in New Rochelle, New York when Holly died. He learned about the plane crash when he cut into his stack of papers and saw the lead story. Reportedly, The levee Don is referring to was The Levee, a bar down the block from Don's high school (Iona Prep) in New Rochelle, NY. It is now the Beechmont Tavern. (Source: www.songfacts.com/facts/don-mclean/american-pie)
A few quiet beers by myself and then I stumble across this.... This is possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on. I just can't express my love for this in words, it's amazing, it's beautiful and it 's now on every playlist I can think of. Thank you 100x's over.
Anne - In a time when were are bombarded with news of Pandemics, racial tension, social unrest and war you and the beautiful way you sing is a GODSEND! Your music makes me smile and reminds that on this planet that GOD created there is still some beauty here on earth. Thank you for lifting my spirit and providing a soul resting distraction . You have a beautiful GOD given talent. Music is the medium that has no borders and bring peace and understanding to all people.
@@n4rzul Genius is 10% inspiration and 90% transpiration. Or in this case: 1% talent, 99% hard work. And mind you, if I worked those 99% my 0.01% talent would still bring me to just 1% (enough to sing happy birthday to a drunk audience without being embarrasing).
American Pie Don McLean A long long time ago I can still remember how That music used to make me smile And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And maybe they'd be happy for a while But February made me shiver With every paper I'd deliver Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step I can't remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride Something touched me deep inside The day the music died So Bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye Singin' this'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die Did you write the book of love And do you have faith in God above If the Bible tells you so? Do you believe in rock and roll? Can music save your mortal soul? And can you teach me how to dance real slow? Well, I know that you're in love with him 'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym You both kicked off your shoes Man, I dig those rhythm and blues I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck With a pink carnation and a pickup truck But I knew I was out of luck The day the music died I started singin' Bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye Singin' this'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die Now, for ten years we've been on our own And moss grows fat on a rolling stone But, that's not how it used to be When the jester sang for the king and queen In a coat he borrowed from James Dean And a voice that came from you and me Oh and while the king was looking down The jester stole his thorny crown The courtroom was adjourned No verdict was returned And while Lennon read a book on Marx The quartet practiced in the park And we sang dirges in the dark The day the music died We were singin' Bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye And singin' this'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die Helter skelter in a summer swelter The birds flew off with a fallout shelter Eight miles high and falling fast It landed foul on the grass The players tried for a forward pass With the jester on the sidelines in a cast Now the half-time air was sweet perfume While sergeants played a marching tune We all got up to dance Oh, but we never got the chance 'Cause the players tried to take the field The marching band refused to yield Do you recall what was revealed The day the music died? We started singin' Bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye And singin' this'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die Oh, and there we were all in one place A generation lost in space With no time left to start again So come on Jack be nimble, Jack be quick Jack Flash sat on a candlestick 'Cause fire is the devil's only friend Oh and as I watched him on the stage My hands were clenched in fists of rage No angel born in Hell Could break that Satan's spell And as the flames climbed high into the night To light the sacrificial rite I saw Satan laughing with delight The day the music died He was singin' Bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye Singin' this'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die I met a girl who sang the blues And I asked her for some happy news But she just smiled and turned away I went down to the sacred store Where I'd heard the music years before But the man there said the music wouldn't play And in the streets the children screamed The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed But not a word was spoken The church bells all were broken And the three men I admire most The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost They caught the last train for the coast The day the music died And they were singing Bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye Singin' this'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die They were singing Bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye Singin' this'll be the day that I die
@@Joseph120656 "The Music" the song refers to is Buddy Holly. The song is about the turmoil of the 60's and how the first era of rock ended with Buddy Holly's death in a tragic plane accident. Don McLean used religious imagery in the song to express the emotional weight that rock music had in his generation.
Still only the Love of God has the power to save. All else leads to no good. Adoration of temporal things is not good. Use of temporal things to come to understanding that the only thing that transcends death is the Love of God. Our music and our wealth will die. Though this is among the best renditions I have heard of any music of any genre. What Anne Reburn does is magic.

This song specifically has always meant the world to me, my grandmother used to sing it to me when I was very little and I've loved it ever since, it's one of the greatest songs I've ever heard, and your version honestly just lights up my heart.
Yep, she certainly is a fresh breeze.
Wow Chris that comment is amazing :-)
Dude, that was the best possible choice for a song for Anne. I never would have thought of an a capella of American Pie. Brilliant!
Love it! I bet she'd do an amazing Piano Man as well!
Just propose already jeez
Opening lines gave me chills, you nailed it 💛
hermosa mujer, con un talento único
Amazed at how you do these multi-part harmonies with yourself. This was a true masterpiece!
WOW. I can _not_ even try to imagine the amount of _effort_ that was required to make this video. >.<
Your creativity & _passion_ for the art *definitely* shows 😊 (TY)
(And I feel so _guilty_ , enjoying it so ... so effortlessly 🤔)
ingenious 😊
DID THIS JUST GET UNBLOCKED IN THE US?
WOOHOO
You've outdone yourself Anne. Bravo
Your music and the way you present is so pure! Thank you for sharing with us!
There is no music actually.
This is one of the best one-person layered acapellas i've watched. Great work there.
This vid got banned for like 6 months. Considering she performed all parts, and it's one of the best, it felt especially unfair. So yes, be glad this is out in the world.
Completely true
@@carpediemarts705 why did it get banned?
@@emeltea33 they ban all sorts of things on yt.
I guess because someone else wrote it?
@@carpediemarts705 ahh, like a copyright algorithm thing?
This is one of the best voices I've heard so far. Makes so calm and relax just listening to her. Love it!
Those who disliked this video must be jealous.
Wonderful. I love it when you record with less technology, because your talent is evident.
Bob Dylan is The Jester
Simple they are doing really big gigs in heaven.
Wasn't this about the death of Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper? That was the day the music died.
Watching the video again and just overwhelmed by talent, which is formidable, but dwarfed by just the beauty of your voice strictly a cappella.
I can't cease to be amazed by the beauty of all of it. My deepest admiration
the very best version of this I have heard, you voice is amazing
You're amazing, Orchestra Girl, God Bless you !!!
Wow....... stirs the heart. Beautiful harmony. Thank you.
Yes this song really shows off all the things about your work that your listeners like the most.
Beauty and talent. True masterpiece
What a face! What expressions! The word "angelic" comes to mind! Wow!
Nicely done!!! Don McLean would be impressed with you!
You have an awesome voice. Love the arrangement s keep up the good work can't wait to hear what you sing next
WOW! 7-part harmony AND percussion and you make it look soooo easy! Love it!
Good?? NO, Great?? NO, OUTSTANDING!!!!! YES, love how you did that song.
Beautiful. I'm not ashamed to admit that I shed a tear or two.
Simply amazing ; congratulation ; a flawless success !!!! 🥰
How can 9 minutes be so good :O
So beautiful
Just wow. And that was the shortest 9 minutes ever. Captivating.
Gorgeous cover! 😲
My illness is cured. My crops are growing. My skin is clear. Yes! I love you and this song❤

Your voice reminds me of other moments in my life when I was totally blown away by someone's talent. You're an inspiration my dear. Thanks for sharing!
I like how you give genuine happy smiles, I could never do that.

Very good work, it is a difficult song.
I'm just finding this and it is awesome! I like how you break into a huge "smile" to hit some of your notes.
A few quiet beers by myself and then I stumble across this.... This is possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on. I just can't express my love for this in words, it's amazing, it's beautiful and it 's now on every playlist I can think of. Thank you 100x's over.
this young lady has a great future‼️she does justice to the songs ❤️.keep em coming 🤛
What are there no accolades or even comments visible - surely I can’t be the only one in awe of this great performance.
Amen!
Artist dedicates entire life to singing from a young age. Practices countless hours for years on end. "God given talent". Right...
n4rzul I totally agree Bro!

American Pie
Don McLean
A long long time ago
I can still remember how
That music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
Something touched me deep inside
The day the music died
So
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock and roll?
Can music save your mortal soul?
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues
I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died
I started singin'
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
Now, for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rolling stone
But, that's not how it used to be
When the jester sang for the king and queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice that came from you and me
Oh and while the king was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
And while Lennon read a book on Marx
The quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died
We were singin'
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
Helter skelter in a summer swelter
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance
'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?
We started singin'
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
Oh, and there we were all in one place
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So come on Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack Flash sat on a candlestick
'Cause fire is the devil's only friend
Oh and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Satan's spell
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singin'
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died
And they were singing
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
They were singing
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
Gracias!!
Just in case anyone doesn’t know, this is about the death of Buddy Holly and, yes, Don WAS a paper boy!
underrated comment
@@pierre6760 Also Ritchie Valens and JP Richardson aka "The Big Bopper"
He wrote a lot of songs this is the only song he sang
"Can music save your mortal soul?" Why, yes. Yes it can.
No. THat's the point of the song. The music has died. But, the Son of God can save one's mortal soul.
@@Joseph120656 lol no
Still only the Love of God has the power to save. All else leads to no good. Adoration of temporal things is not good. Use of temporal things to come to understanding that the only thing that transcends death is the Love of God. Our music and our wealth will die. Though this is among the best renditions I have heard of any music of any genre. What Anne Reburn does is magic.
